I got that email but nothing since! hmm.. which email? Don't think I even got that one. I had an email on Friday which gave a link to the performance schedule.

The theatre in New York had TV screens up in the Foyer so that if your children were misbehaving you could take them out so they weren't disturbing other people and not miss the show. Maybe something similar will be implemented in London?

Saw the matinee of this yesterday, been years since I've seen a panto, and never seen the Palladium one before. I think what everyone has said about it being more of a variety show than a panto is right, there is very little plot, which was reiterated by several of the actors on multiple occasions. I hadn't heard of Gary Wilmot before but he was amazing and I'm looking forward to seeing him in the Prince of Egypt when it opens, and hearing him sing "Through Heaven's Eyes". There seemed to be quite a lot of 4th Wall breaks, and corpsing so unsure if this was as the show regularly is, or whether they were having a bit of fun with the penultimate show. {Spoiler - click to view} Also, was there supposed to be a dove left behind in the magic act? It didn't seem so at the start of the section, but the way it was magic'ed away made it seem planned...

Hammersmith to Uxbridge costs me £1 off peak, presumably with my railcard discount.

This is a strange marketing campaign. Ummm. What’s happening in this poster? Looks like she's got a very saggy bottom! I think the logo is poor as too much is going on. One bit of spray paint would be much stronger Looks like it was made in MS Paint

Wonder if I should catch it before it closes. I see every ALW show and this is one I haven't got around to. I don't think I'll hate it, but not sure I'll love it. If I can get an absolute bargain (good seat) then I'll go! If you like the film, you should like the show, so I would start there if you haven't seen the film before. They use a lot of the same music from the film, with lots more added, which is one of the main reasons I like it. You can easily get a very good £20/£25 seat from the box office on the day, but the theatre isn't huge so I don't think you can go wrong wherever you are sat.

Thanks Monkey!
We've never been to either and since we've already seen the show I want to do something a bit different.

Since booking opens for this soon, I thought I would revive the thread with a question.
I saw this in New York with my mum the year before last, as Frozen is one of her favorite films we're keen to see it again when it comes over.
Depending on when the dates fall I might book for a show on her birthday but otherwise, which would be best to go to for the experience and a special occasion (having already seen the show):
1) the first preview
2) opening night
Back to more general thoughts on the show if I could make three changes before it comes over:
1) Make "In Summer" a big tap number
2) Get rid of "Hygge"
3) Ice Castle/Stairs

Hedgehog's speech patterns made me think Tom Allen, or Joe Lycett, but not sure how they fit with the dying clue. Well people have said Jason Manford for the hedgehog and he played Pirelli in sweeney who is dead by 8:30 and isn’t in the show after that Yes, I've read that but I didn't think it sounded like him, having seen him singing last week. Maybe I'm wrong, but I didn't think it was him, it sounds way too posh. When I've seen him sing its always been with an American accent, whether the situation required or not. Hence why I think someone like Tom Allen, Joe Lycett, or maybe even Judge Rinder, though that is based on the voice itself rather than the clues.

Really enjoyed the Matinee of this on New Years Eve. Some nice songs, and funny moments. Afternoon well spent, and I would certainly see it again.

I bought a new Oyster card when I moved back to London as I have my railcard set up on it. I don't think it saves me on my regular commute, as that's during peak, but if I end up staying late at work I save 1/3 on my journey back, and any travel at the weekends too.

Enjoyed this the other week. Watched the film over Christmas, and definitely preferred the show.
Somehow we managed to lose our programme on the way home though! :C

The problem is the show is what category it fits into. Is it a concert, a theatrical production, or some sort of Hybrid. I think it is ultimately the latter which is what is creating issues.
The procedure for concerts is clear. You book to see a particular person and you don't expect them to put someone else on instead, you expect them to cancel or reschedule the show and offer you a refund. If this was a Ball & Boe concert where they happened to sing Les Mis songs it would be clear that you wouldn't expect them to be replaced.
The procedure (in the UK) for theatrical shows is also clear, you pay to see the show, not a person, and if that person doesn't appear you are still getting to see the show you paid for so shouldn't expect a refund. If this were a normal production of Les Mis, which just happened to have stars as the cast and wasn't sold on the strength of those names it would be clear.
The problem here is its both being advertised as Les Mis, as well as Ball, Boe, Fletcher, and Lucas. So it doesn't neatly fit in either place. I would lean more towards saying that it is a Concert Version of something which happens to be a Stage show, so should be treated as such, due to the prominence of the names in advertising and it being called a concert production. But equally, there are scheduled alternate dates, like a full staged version, and its sitting for a long while unlike a true concert.
It's a picky point, but its clearly causing heaps of anguish and confusion. There isn't one right solution for everyone, but the current situation isn't working well.

Either last year, or the year before, I got front row Les Mis tickets for about £40 which were half price.

Something I haven't really seen mentioned, my friend and I went on Tuesday and found parts of the show quite crude/graphic, which we weren't expecting and felt was unnecessary. Otherwise we found it OK, but wouldn't be rushing back. She Used to be Mine was the only stand out song really. It's about sex, deceit, cheating, passion domestic abuse, and survival. And baking pies. What did you expect? I might expect suggestive scenes, but I wouldn't expect {Spoiler - click to view}someone simulating sex by bouncing on another person's lap and shouting "The British Are Cumming", or eating a pie from someone's groin. It just surprised me is all, particularly as people have been speaking about taking their children. It was an element of the show we didn't like, and would have preferred it had been excluded and other parts potentially expanded upon.

I feel like I'm the only one who likes Mike! His quickstep last week was amazing! Admittedly he isn't the whole package yet, but his footwork is compact and clean (at least what we get to see of it with the camerawork). Admittedly this hasn't translated to his hips and tummy, but he's giving it his all. I'd like to see his next ballroom dance, which I think might be more his forte.

I like to put “🦄” at the end of a message that was intended as sarcasm. It needs to catch on in this thread... There's the irony mark (⸮), and it's also been proposed that a tilde at the end of a line should serve that purpose. In subtitles they use (!)

Not really bad behaviour but a slightly funny moment in Prism at Birmingham Rep last night. When Robert Lindsay first appeared a couple broke out into enthusiastic applause and then suddenly stopped when they realised they were the only ones clapping. I've never known what is the etiquette to applaud a well known or acclaimed performer when they first appear. My thoughts are it should only really be in a comedy and it should not be if they are on stage at the start of the play. It would be when a Lady Bracknell or Madame Arcati type character enters. From what I've heard its an American thing.

We saw the matinee on Saturday.
Having not seen a Shakespeare play before, this certainly didn't convince us to see another.
I thought Lady Macbeth was good, as was John Simm.
I found it hard to catch a lot of what everyone was saying, both because of the pace and volume of what they were saying, as well as not being familar with the language.
Kinda wish we'd been at the evening performance as the drama of the floor would've been entertaining and we'd have had a good reason not to have sat through the whole thing.

I've got one spare ticket for tomorrow's matinee that I've posted on the noticeboard if anyone is interested. Don't want it to go to waste.

He and Gemma have not long had a baby, so maybe the schedule of a group dancer fits in better with his home life than the long daily rehearsals with a partner?
