I just checked BBC iPlayer and it still says “available for over a year” so most of us can keep streaming it for free for the foreseeable!

This is going to sound slightly insane but I wonder if My Neighbour Totoro could go to Drury Lane? The reason I'm suggesting this is because Drury Lane has a flexible auditorium so it can change its layout to suit different shows. Is Frozen struggling?

Like I said in my previous post: the only reason Alexia didn’t set the Wicked world alight is because she replaced Kerry both times. And also at the time - I’m not sure if this is still the same because I haven’t gone to Wicked since 2015 - people had crazy obsessions with the standby (who in my opinion was actually very average but that’s neither here nor there). Whoever replaced Kerry was going to a hard time. It's all a blur and I've forgotton, who was the standby then? Ashleigh Gray, who went on to lead the company of the original UK Tour in its second year.

I guess they were just waiting for Poppins to close seeing as it’s a very similar story.

This will be coming back for another run. Is this confirmed anywhere or just insider info?

Yeah it’s as if they thought it would be a really strong statement to have an all 3 leads be black for the first time (which it is of course) so let’s just bring back the ONE non-white Elphaba we’ve had in the past 16 years instead of finding someone new. There would be so many talented young women of colour they could have found as opposed to bringing Alexia back. She does look young for her age but a 40 year old playing Elphaba is just taking the mick a bit (I know it’s been done before). I can see why they want an Elphaba who’s played the role before though because Lucie was their first “fresh” Elphaba (not a return or bumped up from standby) for years and the whole thing was a bit of a disaster, so at least Alexia’s a safe pair of hands! Ditto with Ryan Reid, I wish they’d found another new non-white Fiyero rather than keep on somebody who’s giving a pretty “meh” performance.

Is it the same Lloyd Webber produced WOO as before or a different production? I think it’s the same production as far as same book and score including the new songs but a different set and director, probably a smaller production if it’s starting in Leicester and possibly touring.

Agreed, also theatre’s struggling enough as it is in this climate without putting more people off even coming!

Alexia was my first Elphaba and she was the reason I fell in love with not only Wicked, but musical theatre in general … but I just don’t see her returning. But as I adore her so much, I am very happy to be proven wrong. I suppose Erin Mackey returned to Wicked after almost a decade away a few years back! I think mainly I don’t see Lucie leaving after one contact, the role clearly means a lot to her. That’s assuming she was/will be offered another contract, the producers don’t have to renew everyone and may not want to for whatever reason.

Hopefully there’ll be plenty more Sondheim concerts but we’re not going to get something on this level with this calibre and amount of stars again.

Thinking of seeing this sometime this week as long as it goes ahead, wish I’d booked sooner now when there were offers about! I could sit in Row U of the stalls on Wednesday for £20, not a pillar-restricted seat so seems like good value but I know the top of the stage is restricted a lot in the Garrick. I don’t really mind a “letterbox” view but wondering will I miss the screen with all of the home-video footage? That seems like it’s quite a key part to the play.

Or the announcement could be that the uk is finally getting the pro shot?? The fact that the Alex in Birmingham posted about it heavily suggests a UK tour, there’s no reason why a touring theatre would publicise a proshot release of a random show.

Wonder why they have been saying the announcement would be at 10am tomorrow and announced it early. Did someone leak the news? I was hoping it would be release of the filmed concert. Yes this is a leak rather than an official announcement. I remember this Carl used to post lots of rumours and leaks, some of which would come true and some of which wouldn’t, a few years ago but he doesn’t seem to have been as prominent lately.

Well I hope they get some swings! Went on Sunday, barely any ensemble. Understudy both dads/ Duke and Martha. NOt sure if Bailey wasn't 100% bit Kindergarten boyfriend was cut and she didn't sing at the end either. May disappeared for a while- I'm guessing to so some emergency blocking. It def effected the show- hopefully with a bit more space they will have a couple of swings. Sorry but for me that’s refund worthy, you didn’t get the show you paid for.

Alex Young is doing that play at the National until end of March I think? So an April transfer for Woods if we’re lucky!

Could any regular BTTF theatregoers help me? I'm planning to book my parents to go and see this (in their seventies!) as they have shown an interest. They will travel down from the Highlands in December to see a few other shows, and I'm aiming for a Monday evening performance. I saw on the thread above that Will Haswell usually does Monday evenings (no bad thing as I think he is superb as Marty), but are there any other understudies that typically cover Mondays? I'd prefer my parents to see Roger Bart as Doc, as his performance really is excellent. Any advice appreciated before I go ahead and book. Many thanks. I’m not 100% certain but I’m pretty sure Roger Bart does all 8 shows generally. Hopefully someone else on here can give absolute confirmation.

From a rumour post by TheatreFan and remark made by Paul Taylor-Mills at MusicalCon, it sounds like this is going back out on tour next year.

So I don’t know about other Gen Zs but I’m 21 and just find the constant eyes emojis leading to nothing f*cking annoying even if I’m the target audience! Aren’t most social media accounts for West End & touring musicals run by an external marketing company, usually running accounts for multiple shows? I wonder how much money they’re paying whatever company to just occasionally post a pair of eyeballs to “market” a show that’s not even currently running?! I think to be fair in terms of how well it sold, it definitely struggled at the beginning of the run but then after they did a TodayTix flash sale it did start to sell quite well, combined with building word of mouth, and was selling out quite a few nights, and towards the end of the run it was tricky to get any tickets. I know that selling out by pricing lots of tickets at £25 is not a sustainable business model though! Whether it did sell out or not though, I agree it was just petty and dumb for that producer or whoever he was to take to twitter to bitch about a comment one of our users made. If you know your show is doing well then great, why do you care what someone on an internet messaging board is saying?! I would love to see it return as I only got to see it once and thought it was really great, quite an emotional piece with a score that’s really grown on me. I thought both Jordan and Frances were wonderful as well.

Oh yes I saw that. You threw me when you said play rather than musical. Have Victoria Hamilton-Barret in it if I recall. I saw it in The other Palace as it was then It wasn’t me who said it! But I assume it’s what inthenose was referring to.

Weird? He's a solid professional performer who can play hundreds of different roles. He's just another actor singer like the many many others no? I look forward to seeing the show! I heard great things on its previous run. What weird play about sex? The Wild Party?

I agree with you 100%, it’s really not got anything to do with race. Seeing as the lead, alternate, understudy, whatever often all wear the exact same costume and wigs, you’re not going to be able to tell the difference unless you’re a superfan and/or sat really close. I don’t doubt that these performers have experienced racism in their careers and lives but this is really not race-motivated or race-specific, I’m sure it happens to white performers a lot as well. While I’m sure people get white performers mixed up, there is a known (an ancient) issue both in and out of theatre of people assuming that non-white people (black people, Asian people, Indian people etc.) all look the same, because they see their ethnicity or skin colour without actually looking at their face. For anyone who is regularly confused for another performer in their company that doesn’t look like them except for having the same ethnicity, after awhile it’s going to get VERY irritating. I’ve seen performers comment that it happens daily. Wigs and costumes are obviously going to make people look more similar on stage, but with the known and very loaded issue of racism, mixing up people of colour is going to come across in the same way as getting them confused in the street. That being said, I wish that there would be a return to pre-show announcements of understudies at shows. I see so many people @ting shows asking who it was they saw in a role the night before because they missed the cast board Exactly as cezbear says, I know it’s a known issue but it’s not the case here, it’s clearly just happening because of distance from stage, similar costumes and wigs etc.

For me the issue was not that he couldn’t act, just that he was wrong for the part. Bless his heart but he was camp as Christmas and I just could not believe him as being in love with Cinderella, also he looked about 12 and Carrie looks her age so he read more as her little brother than love interest! Michael Hamway was much better as the Prince for me, him and Carrie had brilliant chemistry as well. Having said all that, Ivano’s voice was fantastic and his dancing was second to none so I think he could be really good in MJ, especially as Michael Jackson was quite a flamboyant character.

Nikki Bentley deserves to have another West End run I think, finish what she started. Aimée Fisher could be a good choice to return for standby Elphaba, she did a great job covering Jenna on the Waitress tour. I also wonder if Natalie McQueen would like to return to the role of Elphaba as principal, she’s become quite a name amongst West End circles since leaving the show.
