Lucie was no Patti LuPone attendance-wise at Waitress but also she was nowhere near as “unreliable” as at Wicked. She did have a fair few absences and of course those 2 weeks that Desi had to cover at the end but in general her attendance was fine. As people have said, she seems to have never managed a full week of shows at Wicked. On tour with Waitress I remember Aimée Fisher didn’t debut until Manchester which was about 2.5 months into the tour and Lucie’s second to last venue so her attendance there was very good.

Will wait for “Iz” to put out a statement regarding whether this musical is “for me” or not before I book I think…

Newbie to London - anyone from London. Asking this question. What are chances ( weather, strikes etc permitting ), getting via tube, from Wemberly AFTER seeing Newsies ( 2.30 showing..do you know when it finishes? ) getting to Battersey Power Station ( for a visit /bit to eat ) from there getting to Adelphi theatre ( BTTF 7.30 ) OR Seeing &Juliet ( 2.30 - when does it finish? ) going to Battersey Power Station ( bit to eat ) and then from there getting tube to see Hamilton, Her Maj. Theatre ( 7.30 showing ) IS - going to Battersey...going to mess things up you think? I see some tubes from some theatres as quick, other may take 30min etc.... too much rushing about? You think? Better to ignore Battersy and just concentrate getting to the next theatre ( and if so...thoughts on a bit to eat? a upmarket mcdonalds -level of budget perhaps ) So, thats my 1 question - whichi am aware is about 4 questions!! Hamilton is at the Victoria Palace Theatre, it’s Phantom at Her Majesty’s (soon to be His Majesty’s) Theatre. If you want a nice restaurant that’s reasonably priced in the Victoria area I’d recommend Il Posto (as long as you like Italian). I’ve been a few times before visits to Hamilton and Wicked and they’re always efficient, friendly and quick, and the food is really good.

VHB is probably thinking “come back ALW’s Cinderella, all is forgiven”… Maybe they should have renamed this “Bad Hex” for its second outing!

I booked as soon as this went on sale, £20 rear stalls during previews seemed a bargain considering the same seat is MUCH more for Mother Goose. So excited to see Sheridan back on stage for the first time since Joseph, I’ll always be a massive fan whatever she does.

I’ll always love the score but the production didn’t live up to the West End unfortunately. As Burly said the set was very cutback and nowhere near as opulent, and some of the costumes were downright ugly imo. Nicole is very good and I definitely saw a lot of improvement between Bristol in January and Cardiff in April but she doesn’t have that “magic” (the best way I can describe it) that Amber Riley and Marisha Wallace had. I am going to try to catch the show one last time in Birmingham, hopefully with Sharlene this time.

It would be a terrible idea to be honest. It’s an important part of the story that Morrible is a sort of mentor for Elphaba for most of Act I and is someone she trusts and likes, only for her to be revealed as one of the villains and end up as probably the most evil character in the whole show. The character journey from Morrible the headmistress to Morrible the press secretary can be brilliant if played by a strong enough actress.

Yep Zara does all the Friday matinees barring illness and holidays. And I agree she’s the best Juliet of the three I’ve seen (Miriam, Grace, Zara)

Just seen a post on MTAS (Musical Theatre Appreciation Society Facebook group) from a lady who went today and saw a mouse on the premises. Apparently the staff were pretty “calm” about the whole thing. Gross!

They hadn’t put the original final performance on sale anyway so nothing to worry about!

if you’re looking for a genuine answer they’re called ‘Hammerheads’ (or Flatheads), a quick reference to the original characters and illustrations in the Oz books .. check google images and you’ll see the connection 😭 terrifying .but justifiable for sure Is the casual theatregoer supposed to know this though? There’s no explanation in the show. Is it an in joke of some sort? I suppose one of the volumes of the forthcoming film will explain… at length Zzzzzzzz 🙂 I think they’re supposed to just be a bit of fun for the younger audience members to be honest. (When I say young I mean like under 10s!)

This also brought up a few photos of the Wicked scene in question showing four of these characters on stage, when I saw it recently there were only two. Is this a change that has been made or was it just a shortage of cast? I think it was always 3 in London and 2 on tour but when I saw the show in September it was also just 2 then. I assumed it was cast illness rather than cutting it down for good but not sure now?

Seem All That Dazzles on Twitter has made the point re the pricing too. Had alluded but not mentioned TLITP What's the other factor he's hinting at but won't mention? I don’t know but if he couldn’t say what the factor is, he shouldn’t have mentioned the existence of this “other factor” at all! That second tweet just screams “look at me I know more than everyone else hahaha”.

Hiba Elchikhe and Emma Kingston would be lovely Elphabas. Although I’m not sure if they’d be considered too old now… Seeing as both were playing high schoolers not long ago, I don’t think they’d be too old to play Elphaba for a while yet.

I agree Samantha would be a brilliant Elphaba and looking at her stellar attendance record at Frozen, I’m sure she’d handle the role 8 times a week just fine. I feel like it’s not the sort of thing that would be on her radar right now though (she’s done the Les Mis movie, originated a role on Broadway, originated one in London in a huge musical, I feel like she can do “bigger” things than just being the latest Elphaba). Maybe she could do it for the 20th anniversary or something to make it feel more of an event. I think Courtney Stapleton was fantastic in Beauty and the Beast but I’m not sure if I see her as an Elphaba, I thought her understudy Grace Swaby-Moore had more of an “Elphaba voice”.

Lucie notoriously hates touring so I highly doubt it, especially as she’s been struggling with attendance as it is, as said above. Nikki Bentley perhaps if she feels ready to return?

It should really go somewhere like Norwich. That’s almost as far from London as Bristol is and if the Theatre Royal can fit Les Mis, I think it could fit the Wicked tour.

Happy 90th birthday to Petula Clark! No show tonight, but perhaps if she’s performing tomorrow they might bring a cake on for her at the end? They did yesterday! There’s a photo in the Petula thread on Performers & Creatives.

What is thought to be the reason for Lucie’s absences? I guess there’s the possibility of long covid or an underlying condition we don’t know about but I get the feeling she just can’t handle the role 8 times a week. I really wish they’d just give Elphaba 1 show off a week, every other show does it nowadays. Did Carrie really need 2 shows off a week from Cinderella? I’ve been a fan of Lucie since she was in Rent and did Eurovision and have followed her career ever since so it’s really sad that this hasn’t turned out the way everyone hoped.

Laura Harrison again tonight from the looks of things. Also Michael Colbourne as Fiyero. I am going again tonight, 4th time I booked this year trying to see Lucie and still no luck. At least I am seeing Laura, Amy was on the last 3 times I went. Bless you, it’s really annoying even if it can’t be helped! It took 3 goes for me to get Lucie and then the sound was crap anyway!

I just checked BBC iPlayer and it still says “available for over a year” so most of us can keep streaming it for free for the foreseeable!
