I wonder do the producers secretly wish Caroline Sheen could stay on. Well I know all of us *not so secretly* wish she would stay.

I’m having real trouble with this quote from The Guardian review.
“I couldn’t wholly believe in the plight of the pregnant protagonist, Jenna, a waitress and classy pie cook in a typical American diner. Why, I wondered, did she put up with a violently abusive husband who appropriated all her tips?”
It’s interesting that this review is written by an old balding man. Does he not realise that Jenna is literally trapped in her marriage, she has no money, even if she was able to keep her Waitress wage, that’s not really enough to make a life! She’d have nowhere to live, and she certainly would struggle to support herself AND a baby. Where would the baby go when she was at work? And I’d think it’s pretty obvious that a long-term victim of emotional and physical abuse wouldn’t have much confidence in trying to escape. It’s clear that Earl is violent, who knows what he could possibly have done if she tried to leave. I know it’s all fiction but I’m sure there are many real women (and some men) in awful situations like this and he’s just belittling their struggles and their fears in my opinion. Rant over.

Do we think we'll see a performance from Company at the Awards? If so what song? Granted the show will have closed by the time of the ceremony but other shows in previous years have closed but still performed.. Perhaps it'd be a way to get the word out there to the masses, prior to a cinema screening..? OK now I'm dreaming. I’d have thought they would do a performance, the title number would be the best choice! I’d assume Patti will stay to pick up her Olivier seeing as the ceremony’s only a week after it closes. Otherwise they could just have Rosalie singing Being Alive maybe?

It sounds like Come From Away actually make use of having the band on stage and they become part of the story but for Waitress they’re really just sort of there for the sake of it. I assume the Adelphi has quite a big pit so I guess a band of 5 down there would look quite comical anyway! I barely even noticed the band being there to be honest appart from when the solo guitarist came on in A Soft Place To Land and a few other instances, I guess I was just too engrossed in the story. The one thing I did think though was that it looked a bit messy the way the band just walk on at the beginning of I Didn’t Plan It instead of being there from the start of Act II, I just don’t think it looked right and actually took me out of the show for a split second.

Being blocked by Paul Taylor-Mills on Twitter (life goals ✌) for saying Heathers winning the WOS Award was a joke without tagging the show, cast or him and him seeing it because all the fangirls came for me. 😂😂 God he’s as childish as the 14 year olds that fill his shows 🙄

Btw, i meant to say, they only had the apple pies available on Wednesday! I was so disappointed! I was going to go for one of the other flavours. Anyway, i still bought one, it was quite nice but not really a pie is it. Some bits of apple in cinnamon with a tiny bit of crumble at the bottom. Still, i like to have the full experience when i see shows and getting a pie at Waitress seemed the thing to do. The jar is nice little keep sake as well. Oh yes I forgot about this. I really wanted a salted caramel, I’d heard so many good things about them but got an apple one anyway to try. I thought it was nasty! What a waste of £6, worst part of the night to be honest 😂

Whilst alot of the fans have obviously said they think it's amazing, I've seen some agree with the posters on here saying its dissapointing. The issue here is that they held off the release and kept saying it was because they were doing more work to make it perfect only to deliver something that felt a bit, well, lazy. I don't think it was a smart decision on Paul Taylor-Mills' part to keep tweeting "we are doing more work to make it perfect" and here we are, it's not. I’m not sure I’d say it feels lazy though, given I think the overall feeling is that it’s over-produced. It feels too polished, and honestly would have benefitted from a live recording to capture the energy. I’m so grateful to have this recording though, and to have Jamie Muscato’s JD officially captured - his numbers have come off best because, to me, it feels like he was giving the same or almost the same energy as he did on stage (and also because he was just ridiculously good in the role, it would’ve been hard to mess that up) I thought that maybe a live recording might have captured the energy better but if the fangirls were as bad all through the run as they were in the first week I think it would have been unbearable to have a live recording! I agree there’s just something off about it, to me it almost sounds a bit too much like a pop album rather than an MT recording.

sparky5000 actually come to think of it when I’ve listened to one or two recordings of Kat doing SUTBM on Broadway last year and on the opening weekend over here, it did seem a lot more emotional than what we got on Wednesday night. I was in Row L stalls so I would have been able to see the tears on her face etc. and she didn’t seem to be crying, and she didn’t sort of “break down” mid-song in the way she seemed to on recordings so maybe she was just having an off-night or was tired? (Though I never would have thought that from the quality of her voice!) Can you remember what seat number you sat in? I only ask because i was in row so it would be funny if we sat right behind/infront of eachother and never knew lol! Me and my mum were in seats 9 and 10. If you were near us then I do apologise for the occasional sweet bag rustling from my mum and the confusion we caused at the interval when we asked the women next door if they wanted to move to the empty seats next door so we could all sit closer to the middle!

I’m still not sure if I think Sheridan is the best person for the job but I am a huge fan of her in general so I will be going. My mum saw the Palladium production with Schofield and Hateley in the 90s so I’m sure I’ll be able to drag her along for the nostalgia factor. I’m sure she’ll come a lot more willingly if Jason Donavon truly is involved!
I’m thinking of booking Row T stalls for £55, I think it seems a fair price if this is indeed going to be a big production, and from looking on seatplan, it doesn’t look like a huge amount of the stage is cut off from here?

Brace yourselves...
Laura from last year’s Love Island on the tube on the way to Regent’s Park, probably means nothing to most of you! Verity Rushworth a few rows in front at Waitress, there to support David Hunter. Savannah Stevenson and her husband also at the Adelphi for Waitress. Lee Mead out for a jog on Thursday morning in Victoria. Finally, like I said on the Company thread, Rachel Bloom was at the show Thursday night, missed by one show. Really would have liked to meet her!

So I’d been waiting for this to transfer for nearly a year (I know many people were probably waiting a lot longer!) after discovering the cast recording last Easter. I can see why some find the music bland but I loved almost all of it from the first listen, I think Sara did an amazing job. I think the biggest surprise from seeing the full show was how funny it was. I know people had said it was funny but people also say the film is funny and that is more subtle humour and the occasional chuckle mostly from Joe’s lines. This is on the other hand had us laughing through basically every scene. I think for me that’s the main way that Jessie Nelson has enhanced the material.
Performances: Kat McPhee, as others have said, her voice is fantastic, one of the best I’ve heard live. That vocal rest seems to have done her a lot of good and her voice really suits these songs. For me if you just wanted someone to sing the songs, she’s an even better choice than Jessie Mueller. But I agree acting wise, she doesn’t quite cut it. I wouldn’t say I thought she was dead behind the eyes (or couldn’t move her face!) and she made Jenna a likeable and believable character but the problems arose with the “deeper” scenes in the second act. I think if Waitress was just a rom-com about a girl having an affair with her doctor and making some pies, she’d be absolutely fine, but it’s so much more than that. It’s the story of a woman who’s been abused emotionally and probably physically for who knows how many years and is really reaching the end of her tether. Her She Used To Be Mine didn’t move me to tears, whereas JM’s did just from the first few listens of the cast recording. She just seemed to be singing it, which was still a treat to hear, but not quite what I wanted from the song, it really needs that acting through song that JM brings in spadeloads. She still got an extended applause for the song though, so obviously most of the audience disagree! But overall she’s a good performer and I’m glad she’s come over for a little run, I think the poor girl gets some unnecessary stick sometimes! Marisha Wallace was probably the highlight of the show, as I expected. She was sensational in Dreamgirls and maybe even better in this. Comedy is definitely her thing and here she has so many funny lines. And then she really showed everyone exactly how it’s done with her solo number, it really is a showstopper! What I love about Marisha is how hard she clearly works, she has this beautiful smile when she’s up there on stage, something I noticed in Dreamgirls, and you can see how much she enjoys what she’s doing. It’s hard not to be invested in her performance, she basically forces you! I think her work ethic is incredible and you can really tell she never takes any of her lead roles for granted, I hope we can keep her in London for many more years! I loved David Hunter, so funny and endearing in all his scenes. The chemistry between him and KMP is also great. It did sound like he maybe struggled a little bit with some of the higher bits of the score but he still sounded great and it’s early days in the run. (Also he is very VERY good looking! KMP is so naturally beautiful too though, I guess it’s very easy to see how these characters fall for each other.) I didn’t like the sound of Laura Baldwin’s voice on the recordings from rehearsals but live she sounded really great, and she’s so right for this part. Her solo number maybe was a little OTT but still very well performed. From seeing the film before, I thought Dawn would be the bigger part but it’s Becky who steals the limelight more really! Jack McBrayer, hmmm. I was physically cringing through the first half of Never Ever Getting Rid of Me, his singing voice really can’t be described as anything other than AWFUL! He is just naturally funny though, and the audience loved him, and I have to admit I did too! I just hope that they cast an MT performer who can actually sing Ogie’s song next, as I’d really like to hear it properly. Peter Hannah great as Earl, there’s not really much you can say about the role. You’re supposed to hate him and he definitely made us do that so job well done. His voice did sound a bit dodgy in his solo, maybe he was just having an off-night. Stephen Leask also gave a nice performance as Cal, him and Marisha bounced very well off each other I thought. Shaun Prendergast was good as Old Joe, even though I think he’s a tad young for the role, he’s more of a “Middle-Aged Joe”. I think Keri Russell and whoever played Old Joe in the film had a lot of natural chemistry and the man playing him was so perfect in the role that it’s hard for me not to compare the two. Shaun still did very well though. Last, but definitely not least, Kelly Agbowu is HILARIOUS as Nurse Norma. She has quite a few great one liners in the second act and she really is quite the scene stealer. I’m sure she’ll be a great Becky when she goes on for Marisha.
I might come back with some more comments later because for now this post is way too long and probably boring everyone, sorry!! This is just one of my favourite shows so I have a lot to say about it😬

Also during the bows this afternoon, after Rosalie had her bow and everyone comes together for another bow, Mel and Patti had some sort of interaction, and I swear it looked like Mel whispered/mouthed something like “shall we hold hands?” and Patti just said “No.”

I have many thoughts to share on this but for now I’ll just say that it was everything I could dream of and more. Loved loved LOVED it. I was in tears by the end, just so grateful to have the chance to see the show live. I really hope sales pick up because this really deserves to do well. And yes that pie flub really was a DISASTER but it was quite hilarious and just fitting with what a mess Waitress is behind the scenes all the time!

Has her official leaving date been published? I am going at the beginning of May, and would quite like to see her in the role. They haven't given an official date but I thought that it would probably be the 25th of May, end of the first booking period. I'd have thought you'd be safe at the beginning of May though because that's still just shy of 3 months.

Sorry if this has all ready been asked but does anyone know if KMP is schrduled to perform Mon to Wed evenings and Wed matinee. I really don't want to get up 6am and then queue for 3 hours for dayseats to then miss her (I was a fan of Smash). Huge theatrical hugs to anyone who can help ; D Yes Kat is scheduled to do all 8 shows (but she’s only here for 3 months).
