Were “Pomatter Pie” and “Contraction Ballet” pointless?

The extension is now on sale and looks like they’re holding off the entirety of the upper and the balcony for now, plus the back few rows of the stalls and dress. That means that there are some very decent seats available for just £30 even on weekends. I’ve just booked G41 in the dress for the final Sunday; if it ends up being closing night then that’s a bargain and if it doesn’t, I’ve still basically got a Band B seat at rush price so can’t complain.

Thanks musicalfloozie and TallPaul for the advice, please excuse my rudeness thanking you so late! I’m going with my mum and we like a nice walk so will probably check out the Botanical Gardens and possibly one of the National Parks if they’re not too far out? Will probably do some shopping as well and just have a general wonder around the city centre and the area near the Crucible. I’m so excited to see what they’re going to do with this production, especially if it is indeed a 14 piece orchestra!

The theatre Rebecca will be in is very small and as it is an in house production the roles are all a bit blurry im sure they would all talk to each other. Have worked in big and small venues - even in small venues most of the staff don't know the names of the people on box office let alone tell them anything... That may be your experience but definitely not true of all BOs, I work in a west end box office and we’re a very close-knit team, the other staff definitely know all our names to start with!!

I was actually thinking “Danny Mac could play this” when I saw the show last week! Funny because they also both played Edward in Pretty Woman. Ben Joyce though? I don’t see it personally, he very much looks like he’s still in high school!

The same person who told me the Chichester and casting rumours said that they want to do it at the Noël Coward and have it sell out for a while rather than do it at a barn like Drury Lane and struggle to fill it after the first couple of months, again no idea how accurate that is of course.

Is it true that they want Damien Lewis for Fagin and CHF for Nancy? And a Chichester run before transferring to the West End?
(For Cameron’s production)

I don’t know Maiya Quansah-Breed, but quick google tells me she’s another Six alumna so I’m assuming she’s a decent performer and brings in the yoof theatre kid crowd, why is her casting a problem though? Are those comments purely due to her skin colour or am I missing something? Eddie Izzard could be either awful or hilarious if that rumour is true, I simultaneously find him reasonably entertaining (used to be very bloody funny back in the heyday of Dress to Kill) and also an incredibly irritating human. With MQB my issue is that you have two older white actresses and her as a younger mixed race actress all playing the same part. I've no issue with colour blind casting but it has to be consistent and cannot be done this way. If you had a BAME actress playing Camilia that's fine but not when it is the same person. But being cynical if they had two black actresses playing the older parts with MQB as the younger incarnation is that any different to what they have now. Maybe this sort of show can get away with it. Six is totally colour and nationality blind and it is huge so I'll give this a pass on the casting. It’s not two older white actresses all playing the same part, Denise Welch is playing Queen Liz! I shudder to think of her as Diana 💀

Every west end theatre dimmed their lights at 7pm tonight in memory of Tina, was lovely to be a part of from the box office I work at. My mum was saying to me earlier it shows what a legend she was that people from teenagers up to nonagenarians are feeling the loss.

I’m not getting a lot of youthfulness from any of these suggestions. Joe isn’t a big sing so it would make sense to stunt cast this if anything. Could Jac Yarrow pull this off with a weeks stubble? JLG would be fine but a bit overexposed and the wrong side of camp. Jac’s doing the Sondheim concert. I always thought he’d make an awesome Joe one day when older.

Someone else who I think would be a great Norma is Lea Salonga, not a big enough name and all booked up this Autumn but just hypothetically she’d kill it!

A big name would be exciting (and probably needed to sell well) but I’d also love to see Sally Dexter have a crack at Norma, or Rachel Tucker. Or Mazz in a proper production.

My favourite ALW musical and one of my top 10 of all times. Have seen the Ria Jones tour and Mazz at Ally Pally but still incredibly excited at the possibility of it again. BIG ORCHESTRA PUHLEASE

She was talking about when she was injured during the fallen house scene. Apparently, when the guards grabbed her, they moved her in some way that it injured her back. That's unfortunate, and what happened is what happened, but the way she presented the story sort of had the air of condescension to them that they had injured her because they were all swings on and it only happened because they were all swings. I can't think that's what she intended, but it's how it came across. And especially in this era where the appreciation for swings and understudies is rightly at an all-time high (and when, especially in her cast, swings and understudies had to save the show constantly), it felt like very poor form. All in all, if they way she presented herself on that podcast and on instagram during her contract (such as celebrating the last show of the week when she'd only done two) is any indication of how she conducted herself professionally, I'd be glad for the 23-24 cast if I were the powers that be, too. I agree that sometimes Lucie felt to be blaming things for her poor attendance record (not ab her dealing with long covid but ab her saying the AV has a raked stage which it doesn't) however she did say that it was very early in her contract when some of the swings on that day were on for the first time, and that they *accidentally* dragged her in different directions, so yes she blamed them for that but it also sounded like she came from a place of understanding. Obviously we don't know if what she said is even true though, considering she also lied about performing on a rake and how she had to call out because that affected her physical condition. I mean Elphaba is a very hard physical role with lots of running and shouting etc but that was just a blatant lie I’ve heard multiple actors who’ve been in Wicked talk about the stage at the Apollo Vic being raked, what makes you believe it isn’t?

Last minute deals for this on TodayTix:
Rear stalls for £40.20 Rear royal circle for £29.20 And then a few in the grand circle for £17.20
I went for the royal circle option this morning, I think this will be my first time seeing Ms Tucker on stage since the Songs for a New World concert at the same venue during covid. It’s long overdue! I love that Oliver Savile’s doing it as well, making this a Wicked 10th Anniversary Cast reunion.

I think a lot of us guessed this would happen a while ago with the gap in the touring schedule. I do feel a bit bad for Sandra getting sidelined if it is Beverley but Beverley is awesome and sells tickets. I wonder if Jennifer Saunders will want to do Mother Superior again or if they’ll want to get another name, or just keep Lesley.

Agreed, it’s cringe af. I really enjoy the show but the negative reviews are completely fair opinions, it’s not like they’ve been unnecessarily rude about the show. I even saw Dan Looney, one of the producers, replying to a negative review, but then we shouldn’t be surprised because he was also the one moaning about us last summer when we said the Arts run didn’t actually sell out 😭 Immaturity all around!

Laura Harrison could possibly be the tour standby anyway, who knows. People don’t tend to go straight from 2nd cover to lead with Wicked in general!

I feel like this has already been said upthread but I heard from somebody who works at the Lyric that this was all pencilled in for a January-May (ish) run and then either staff spoke up about being uncomfortable working with Gillian or they were worried about public reaction from certain people so they pulled it and 2:22 with Cheryl was their back-up. I really hope SOMEONE will take it anyway

Lucie was no Patti LuPone attendance-wise at Waitress but also she was nowhere near as “unreliable” as at Wicked. She did have a fair few absences and of course those 2 weeks that Desi had to cover at the end but in general her attendance was fine. As people have said, she seems to have never managed a full week of shows at Wicked. On tour with Waitress I remember Aimée Fisher didn’t debut until Manchester which was about 2.5 months into the tour and Lucie’s second to last venue so her attendance there was very good.
