Stunning "awarding" performance from Martin Freeman in The Responder BBC1 5* review in The Guardian and The Telegraph and 4* in The Times. This is going to be a "must watch" over the next couple of weeks or binge watch on Iplayer. I'm sure it's worth watching, but the first hour was so f***ING depressing I can't face the rest of it. Wrong time of year to screen this perhaps?

Sheridan Smith seems to in demand as she's starring in Channel 5's The Teacher, ITV's No Return and will be a judge on Starstuck also on ITV. Have to admit, I do like the look of No Return.

Great acting and well filmed but I'm not sure I want to watch such a hard hitting drama just now. I need cheering up rather than going to bed feeling depressed. Also did anyone else have difficulty hearing what was being said? Usual BBC drama mumbling.

All the recent TV dramas have been downbeat, even the BBC's Christmas period drama! The Responder is very well made but I wish it had a bit more of the sort of dark humour Alan Bleasdale managed to inject into grim subject matter.

On the subject of downbeat, never seen it before but watched a recent episode of "Vera". What's with that weird quavery funny voice Brenda Blethyn's using ? Very poor writing, dull cliched plot, and a grey atmosphere hanging over everything. Won't be watching another. Surprised it's so popular.

If you like your classic horror icons, Talking Pictures TV has The Outer Limits with a telekinetic Donald Pleasence followed by The Abominable Dr Phibes.

Why the big celebration of EP? Is it a borthday or anniversary, or just a celebration of her past roles as The First Lady of Musical Theatre?

Producer having a laugh making Jason Manford sing "how can they spot you've got no talents?" in his big opening number. It was all too obvious,Jason darling.

You don't really get Theatre producing household names like Elaine Paige and Micheal Ball do you.

BBC Three returns to the airwaves in less than 15 minutes, surely the televisual event of the year.
Coming up later is something called RuPaul's Drag Race. I love motorsports, so I'll defo be tuning in for that, innit.

The Teacher is meant to be set in Bradford but they've no attempt to disguise the fact it's Budapest.

The Teacher is meant to be set in Bradford but they've no attempt to disguise the fact it's Budapest. Was it Budapest? I thought I heard a kelvin in an interview say it was filmed in Bulgaria but maybe I misheard him. But, yes it is obvious it's overseas. I noticed little things like the doors to Sheridans apartment and her dads house. Not the type you have in a UK town and crowd/school scenes the extras look eastern European. Mind you Sheridan was driving a right hand drive car so there is some attention to detail.

I only knew it was Budapest because I looked at the credits at the end of episode 1. It's much easier to fake a British town in somewhere like Ireland because it's culturally similar to the UK in terms of looks.

We finally watched Knives Out on Ch4 last night, but having heard so much hype about it and looking forward to it, I have to say we found it really disappointing, like a sub-par episode of Midsomer Murders (the person I was watching it with actually dozed off).

I saw this some time ago and it made no lasting impression on me. I fact I can't even remember wheat it was about.

Sounds good, though Sunday nights are also the prime BBC1 drama slot so it's a shame to put them up against each other.

Obvioysly I'm pleased for her, but I hope this doesn't mean Suzy Klein disappears from our screens.

Nice that more people will get to see Isla. It was pretty funny, but with a serious point to make too. (Thought it was made with Royal Court, though they don’t get a mention.)
