The RF have access to the best and most expensive teams of publicists in the world and have most of the British media willing to play along, yet they're rubbish at even basic PR. They haven't changed their PR strategies since the 80s and are out of touch.
The PR stunts they've pulled are just laughable. Like something out of a satire. The budget airline stunt. William being hustled into a mask when he didn't wear one during crowded meet'n'greets and shoved in a car (to combat the claim Meghan wasn't allowed to drive) and told to drive around look tearful in front of the invited paps. The press office scrambling to call the a Rent-a-Minority agency to find black women willing to put on African-looking clothes and trot around after Will and Kate for the paps, or shake hands with Charles for the paps. Is the RF press office so stupid and racist they think the public will buy these cheap and exploitative PR stunts, or is the problem they think we are?
Meghan could have been a huge asset. She's beautiful and charismatic and has an enviable work ethic. Who else in the RF is willing to get up at 5am and spend all day with women being supported by a charity? Anne certainly, probably Sophie, maybe Camilla if she's allowed to knock off for a gin and a nap at lunchtime. Most of the senior royals are ageing and William and Kate are completely work-shy. The RF need glamorous young people who the British public can connect with. Diana and Meghan both had the knack of connecting with ordinary people and the RF resented them rather than utilizing them.

Once on the spot, Prince William could do little but go along with the ridiculous 'ceremonial' ride. Whoever approved the event, however, demonstrated how tone-deaf The Firm can be. (It reminds me of the optics of Melania Trump and her pith helmet in Kenya in 2018. Although I'm 100% sure she picked the outfit herself.) He's a grown adult, capable of considering the historical significance, making his own choices, saying "do you know what, this would make me feel uncomfortable, no" or "this isn't right" (as are all his colleagues involved) but instead he gets up and enjoys it. I suppose if someone scheduled in a royal sexual endeavour with an minor they'd be just as obliged to comply. Oh wait. I mean, he could have arrived, seen what the host nation had planned, and said no. But how offensive would that have been to the hosts - a visiting member of royalty basically saying, “Stuff your welcome ceremony!” This from a newspaper article at the time suggests a great deal of local pride in sharing a tradition from Tuvalu: “The islanders had promised the Duke and Duchess would be carried off their aircraft, in keeping with the tradition of carrying visitors who arrive by sea, but the Royal couple had no idea how it would happen until the moment they arrived. “The couple looked delighted when 25 men in traditional Polynesian dress emerged with the home-made double throne, on which they were carried to a tribal hall on the main island of the group for a raucous welcoming ceremony, known as a falekaupule ceremony.” Can nobody on Twitter see how insulting it is to take away the right of people (who happen this time to be people of colour) to greet their guests however they darn well like, instead pointing fingers and crying, “Racist!”? Sorry, but that feels uncomfortably ‘white saviour’ in and of itself. Also, it happened nearly 10 years ago. Everyone involved might do it a bit differently now, I guess. (Or not... traditions can take a while to change!)

(Or not... traditions can take a while to change!) The only reason they were greeted with such pomp and circumstance was because the British Monarchy still technically rule there as a result of their barging over and claiming Tuvalu as their own, as was the British method way back when. Prior to William & Kates visit, there was movement to abolish the British Monarchy's power there. That ceremony only took place because of British Colonisation and I suspect was undertaken out of perceived obligation rather than an emotional tradition urge as you'd imply. Not that it should be relevant, but it was a person of colour who pointed this out to me, so please do try brandish me as a 'white saviour' in this instance.

So, maybe, lets have a think about the origins of that particular tradition. A Monarch being paraded around on a throne carried by servants (slaves). Hmmm I wonder how that might have come about.
Perhaps through the subjugation of the indigenous people of Tuvalu, this 'ceremony' became forced into tradition by the British people.

Didn’t watch the interview, no interest in the monarchy.
However on a human level the sheer vitriol aimed at Megan since day one has been unbelievable.
And she’s been blamed for everything.
Yet, the clips I’ve seen, including Gogglebox tonight, Megan was a third party to a lot of the conversations.
It was Harry who was party to them and then he obviously told Megan. She wasn’t there when the ‘colour’ of Archie was raised.
She wasn’t there when the ‘family’ were saying they couldn’t afford her and she should keep working as an actress and Archie wouldn’t have protection growing up.
It seems from day one she wasn’t welcome by the family, the media and then parts of society.
I don’t know how she can be blamed for everything.

Yep, it was worth watching Gogglebox just to see their reaction to the interview.

In a spectacular lack of self-awareness, the Daily Mail is upset that a news organisation has selectively taken their comments out of context and misrepresented them in order to create a story.

Why on Earth are famous actors always writing books? How fortunate we are that famous authors don't usually take it upon themselves to start performing.

Why on Earth are famous actors always writing books? Not just actors... in the Royal Family Kate Middleton, Sarah Ferguson, and Prince Charles have all written books.

Yes, it's a strange trend isn't it? Do they really feel that they are writers at heart? Does someone else do it for them? Is it out of boredom? Is it all about the money? Is it a PR move?

Well then @burlybear, that must apply to the rest of them too!
Can’t think of a reason why you’d single Meghan out otherwise!

I expect loads of people write books, but the only ones you hear about are those by people who are (a) talented or (b) famous enough that audience curiosity overrides lack of (a).

I do find it fascinating that - given all of the other stuff that has been going on with Harry, including the job announcements, the Global Citizen Vax Live event he gave a speech at, the news about the Invictus Games documentary, the actual Royal funeral the attended - it’s this incredibly anodyne Meghan news that gets the thread bumped.
I mean, really?!
By the way, she won summary judgement on the copyright claim of her Mail case. Which means she has won all of her claims.

Speaking as someone who works in publishing, yes! The U.K. market is notoriously over-saturated with authors - and that is without the self-published ones. Please don't misunderstand me, my comments are not about Meghan Markle specifically. She can write all the books she wants as far as I'm concerned, it makes no difference to me. I just wonder why famous people are so inclined to do it when they may have shown no signs in the past of being budding writers. Then suddenly one day they're on Loose Women promoting their new novel.

Wouldn't surprise me if they are approached in the first instance by publishers who know that the books will be guaranteed to sell.

And now the life coach formerly known as Prince Harry is to write an "intimate and heartfelt" memoir, due to be published in 2022, the year of Her Majesty's jubilee. At least the proceeds are going to charity.

Disgusting and deliberate slap in the face to the Monarch. What a piece of work he’s turned out to be.
