Kevin Spacey can sing. So I don't see the issue. He can but I doubt he will. Why wouldn't he? It's the Tonys...

He's a boring choice. You want to have some fun with your Tonys host, I don't think that's something that Spacey will naturally bring. I don't see why Spacey couldn't be fun. He's a great singer, he does fantastic impressions and he doesn't take himself too seriously.

Just got back from seeing Great Comet. Lucas Steele NEEDS that Tony. And not just because he kissed me on the cheek, I promise.

So I see a few articles popping up today saying Bette won't be performing at the Tonys.

Lame. Honestly, I thought that his Act II opening was the most boring part of the evening. It serves well to get people back in their seats.

Any idea if we can place bets on William Hill and such for Tonys?

Scott Rudin, producer of Dolly, is a nasty piece of work (already aired on the Groundhog Day thread), he knows full well that Midler could perform one of her big numbers, Merrick even got them into a much smaller space for the Ed Sullivan show. The real reasons are Rudin's ego and that he couldn't control how such thin material would look. He's right, in a way, that it wouldn't come across well, but he's disingenuous about why.

So I've now seen Great Comet, Come From Away, Groundhog Day, Dear Evan Hansen, Miss Saigon and Anastasia. I wont get around to seeing any of the others before the Tonys.
My choices from those I've seen are as follows:
BEST MUSICAL Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812
BEST LEADING ACTOR Andy Karl, Groundhog Day
BEST LEADING ACTRESS Eva Noblezada, Miss Saigon
BEST FEATURED ACTOR Lucas Steele, The Great Comet
BEST FEATURED ACTRESS Mary Beth Peil, Anastasia
BEST SCORE Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812
BEST BOOK Come From Away
BEST DIRECTION Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812
BEST CHOREOGRAPHY Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812
BEST ORCHESTRATIONS Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812
BEST COSTUME DESIGN Anastasia
BEST SCENIC DESIGN Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812
BEST LIGHTING DESIGN Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812
Leading actor I'd be happy with Karl, Platt or Groban as I think their performances are all pretty much equally excellent. Leading actress I suspect I've missed out on the main performances there. Featured actor I'm heavily rooting for Steele, whilst acknowledging I haven't seen his main competitors. Faist shouldn't even be in there, would happily see John Bolton or Derek Klena take his place. With featured actress, I was a fan of Peil's strong yet emotional performance. Colella's role is a solo and nothing else and unfortunately I find Jones' character so irritating that I struggle to focus on the positives, I can't tell whether she makes the best out of an irritating character or if its her mannerisms/voice that make it worse for me.
Great Comet should and will dominate the techs, although I admit I was slightly more enamoured with Anastasia's costumes, but they're both gorgeous. Really think Comet deserves musical and score, with book I'll be happy as long as it isn't DEH.

I still have a weird feeling Andy Karl is gonna win. I don't know why, but I just do.

I think Evan will take musical, book, score, actor and featured actress Natasha will take most of the technical awards and featured actor for Steele (unless that goes to Creel) Bette for best actress and Dolly for revival.
I could see CFA taking book maybe, but I think both it and GHD will be shut out. I'd love for Jenn Colella to win Featured actress but can't see that happening.

For reference, Dear Evan Hansen was eligible last year. It was nominated for three awards (Rachel Bay Jones for featured actress, outstanding lyrics which it won and outstanding projections). Natasha, Pierre was eligible in 2013 and only its new elements were considered this year. In 2013 it was nominated for outstanding musical, music, lyrics, director and costume design.
In terms of interesting results here, Natasha, Pierre is on track to do very well at next week's Tonys. It won the most awards of the night, despite not being eligible in many categories. Hello, Dolly! does not seem to be the strong competition in the tech categories that some people thought it may be, although it does look to be Creel vs. Steele for that featured actor Tony, with Bette and revival being likely locks. The closure of Falsettos appears to mean that it doesn't have the momentum for any wins on Tonys night, leaving Jen Colella as the dark horse behind Rachel Bay Jones for featured actress. Likewise, Andy Karl has firmly planted himself as the dark horse behind Ben Platt and looks to be the only potential Groundhog Day win. Bandstand won both of the awards it is Tony nominated for, but I suspect they will likely lose both to Natasha, Pierre when it is eligible, although War Paint could contend with the latter for best costume design. Come From Away did well and I am viewing it currently as the frontrunner for Best Book, as a way to award the show. I don't know much about plays but very interesting that Laura Linney has won both tonight and at the Outer Critics Circle awards over perceived frontrunner Laurie Metcalf, perhaps a Tonys upset next week too. Finally, The Band's Visit seems to have earned itself early frontrunner status for next season as it is transferring to Broadway and has done exceedingly well tonight for an off-Broadway show which are often overlooked at the Drama Desks for their Broadway counterparts.

I think Great Comet will win basically all the tech awards - scenic, light, orchestrations, costume and choreography.

If anything is gonna take those catagories from Comet, it will be War Paint for Costumes and Bandstand for Choreography.

War Paint winning is a real shot, but I'd be shocked if Bandstand wins, I don't even remember the last non-Best Musical nominee to win Choreography, but it's my runner up lol

It seems that everyone is saying the locks for acting catagories are: Bette, Ben, Gavin and Rachel.
But, there are two potential upsets in Andy Karl and Jen Cohella, who have both swept the Actor and Featured Actress catagories at every awards ceremony this year. Now bearing in mind Ben and Rachel weren't eligable at other awards this year as they were considered last year, I do wonder if there will be at least one upset. If it does happen, it seems more likely Cohella wins, but I could see Andy being a spoiler too!

I think it'll be a real shame if Andy Karl wins over Ben Platt. It's a good performance but it's nowhere near as terrific as Ben's. I think if it goes to Andy it'll be because of his previous work and not because of his performance in this show and also because they'll want to give 'Groundhog Day' something because it probably won't win in any of the other categories.
It'll be a big fat boo to the Tonys if Jennifer Ehle loses out to sneaky Laura Linney in Lead Actress in a Play too.

I agree ultimately Ben will win and rightly so, both are deserving.
I think Featured Actress is the questionable one, I think its gonna be a three way race. But I imagine ultimately it will be Rachel or Jenn. Poor Stephanie, I would love to see her win!

Its a weird one, because Ben won no major awards last year, and wasn't even nominated for the Drama Desk. His only major win was the Drama League. Whereas Andy hs won all the major awards this year bar the Drama League. Its a weird one.
