At the pub this evening, sitting at the bar next to a fire that I've been keeping going. Someone wanders over and asks me if it's a wood burner.
I could understand asking that of a stove that is carefully designed to burn one particular fuel at maximum efficiency, but this is a bog-standard open fireplace of the sort you find at the bottom end of any bog-standard chimney. It's a fireplace. It burns all the things you'd usually burn in a fireplace.
If nothing else, the three large hunks of wood merrily burning away there really ought to have clued her in.

I am currently sat in children’s A&E with Little Dream, who appears to have had a small Pom Pom stuck up their nose for a few days.
Joys of parenthood! 🙄

Fell over twice at netball tonight (for older, just for fun, ladies, read, some of them can really play and when I have breathe I wheeze 'it wasn't like this at school), did the classic hop up and pretend you're fine whilst inwardly crying, landed on my tale bone one of the time and sitting down is suddenly much more complicated that it usually is

Our shower, which admittedly has been a bit tempremental for a while, decided to abruptly stop working yesterday. Today was spent shower shopping but the plumber can't come till Saturday at the earliest. I prefer baths so I'm okay from the neck down but hair washing is a pain. I had to resort to pouring water over my head from an empty bath foam bottle in order to wash my hair this evening.

Went to see Interpol at the Royal Albert Hall tonight - I saw them (amongst others) supporting The Cure in Hyde Park in the summer and probably due to the fact there was 50-60000 people between me and the stage I thought they were OK without being anything outstanding (I walked off to see Ride 5 minutes before the end of their set making an early New Years vow not to go any more shows where they sell more tickets than the population of small European countries) - but sat in the second row of the stalls, about 20-30 feet away from Paul Banks tonight, I honestly have to say I bore witness to an evening of true beauty and art, I think this was possibly the best show I’ve been to this year (well musically anyway) and has reinforced my faith in the power of music (while trying not to sound too Mojo or Q)

On my way to Nottingham for Madness of King George. I did get some co comadal and it has helped at night. Been doing pretty good but soreness hits before going to bed. Sure it will go away soon. Refuse to let some jerk cyclist interfere with my vacation

My food gift to you. M&S mini mince pies. Just that. No fancy "made with the finest hand churned butter from Austrian bred 2-headed cattle" rubbish on the box. Just mini mince pies. Mmmmm. I was getting fed up with cloying fillings in recent years and these are just the perfect size and aren't too sweet. They come in packs of 9, gold box, near the till. My day week year life has just been ruined. Ruined I tell you! M&S have their mince pie display out. Oh how lovely. Hang on. No minis in sight. So I ask the lady on the till. "You're the third person who's asked for those this morning," she says. "They haven't sent any mini ones this year." WHAT? HOW? NO MINIS? They are the only thing I like about Christmas. Someone wake me up on January 7th please.

Spent a few hours in the garden doing some important pruning, in a tee shirt. In mid November. Singing Christmas songs to myself.

Just been doing a spot of shopping in Marks & Spencer.
They've got these cutest all butter mini mince pies. At £2.50 for nine, they're not cheap mind, but I simply couldn't resist.
It's only a matter of weeks now until my famous Christmas soiree. I'll be the talk of the cul-de-sac. 😉

On the subject of pies (though not mince pies), I went to the Crown and Tuns in Deddington today. They specialise in pies. So many pies. But damn, they're huge. The pie, chips or mash and vegetables turn up in separate bowls and you scoop them on to your plate until there's no more room and then you eat your large meal. But you're not done yet because you're only half way through your pie. So you fill your plate with more pie, potato and veg and have your second large meal.
I'm not going to be able to eat anything else for at least 24 hours.

And, if you think for one minute I am going to fall for the image of you eating any type of pie that doesn't arrive on the same plate as a mountain of mash and puddle of gravy.....🥧

Currently sitting here and wondering whether it’s worth turning up to an audition tomorrow for an amateur production of Chicago. I’m still struggling with my voice and can’t sing properly, also feeling like I’m too fat and old to be in the ensemble, but I’m a huge fan of this show so on the other hand should I just turn up and give it a bash? Likely to be a waste of time but she who dares wins and all that.

I like driving and I like pub food, so I often head out to places an hour or so away for lunch. Almost always to the west of home, because the roads north, east and south of me are boring.

We have a temp in who talks incessantly. There's no harm in her, but if she goes on about her ancient cat any more... Thank God she finishes on Friday. Also sulking because hannechalk isn't in work to bear the pain with me. One more week and I'm back, oh tipsy one.

Very pleased and relieved to have achieved a successful day trip to Nottingham to see Mr Gatiss, involving two of us travelling by train from opposite directions. So much potential for things to go wrong but, apart from dodging lots of very drunk people on the way back, all was good!

Just had a phone call from a lady I help out by doing market research for. She asked me to do some next week & she is having trouble getting enough people as they must travel to the venue by public transport [ as I do] not by driving. - So I am going to get paid for drinking wine!

(a quiet Sunday morning) The selection and servings indeed do look moreish, one to consider on my next trip to Stratford Upon Avon as conveniently just off the M40.

I too was tempted and now, having checked the menu & seen the puds, am even more so. No idea if/when I could actually visit, especially as I can't even walk, let alone drive at present, but I can dream!

Waitrose are doing their all butter mince pies at half price until Tuesday (£1.25 instead of £2.50 for six.) They are my favourite of all the supermarket ones and I just bought six boxes. This also enabled me to get a free Sunday Times and a coffee which means the mince pies were almost free.
