Angela and Kai's dance off performance was much worse than it was on Saturday. None of the judges seemed to notice that she nearly toppled over at one point. Adam wasn't great either but he deserved one vote at least.

I suspect the DO will be between Adam and Angela S this week. Personally I'd prefer to lose Angela R or Krishnan at this stage, but we all know the former is being kept in till Blackpool and Krishnan seems to be getting a lot of A* for enthusiam votes from viewers. Obviously Annabelle isn't going anywhere this week, but I'm not keen for her to stay in the competition much longer. She's very bland. Ellie & Vito had the dance of the night for sure. I believe Layton when he says he is not finding Strictly easy and is working his ass off for those high scores rather than everything being a cakewalk for him as a lot of viewers assume. Him and Nikita continue to be a dream team. I really wanted Bobby & Diane's AT to be better than it was. Feel kind of bad for the kid. He's been overhyped. I don’t know where he has said this but the very fact that he has verbalised these feelings demonstrates why some people find him unlikeable. At this stage all of them are working hard, it isn’t a cakewalk for anyone. But out of all of them a trained musical theatre performer is probably in a better position than most.

the very fact that he has verbalised these feelings demonstrates why some people find him unlikeable. At this stage all of them are working hard, it isn’t a cakewalk for anyone. Layton never verbalized the cakewalk part. That was just my own observance - specifically that whenever Layton nails his routine, a lot of viewers will never give him credit for it, just say "well it's because he's a pro-dancer" as if learning all these new dance styles requires no effort from him. Layton saying that he's not finding it easy comes from this guardian article where he addresses the "unfair advantage" accusations directly. It's also suggested in this article that Nikita is giving Layton harder chorography than other contestants get and that the judges are expecting more from him. The vibe I get from Layton here isn't arrogant at all - he seems to have no expectations of winning and is more focused on the challenge/being this seasons queer rep. Honestly don't see what's so unlikable about that. He's conducted himself really well as far as I can see.

I actually quite like Layton, but I'm getting a bit fed up of the body rolls, gymnastics and sticking his bum out and winking. I loved his quickstep, but recently they've felt a bit like show dances with a few of the relevant steps added in. The jive didn't feel like a jive to me. Hopefully he'll have more traditional ballroom again soon, and dance mainly in hold.
I suppose next to Nikita his Latin technique will always look weaker, because it's a direct comparison. It would be really interesting to see what he'd look like dancing lead with a female pro.
Nice to see he hasn't forgotten his Billy Elliot choreography though.

The main complaint on various forums on Saturday night was that Layton and Nikita did more of a showdance than an actual jive. Doing everything at a high octane level gets tiring to watch. Sometimes less is more, and a bit of subtlety goes a long way.

The lack of jive feel was partly the music as it was never going to feel right. But also the choreo was, as others have said, a show dance with some flicks and kicks rather than a jive with some tricks.

I've just rewatched it. As well as the kicks/flicks and drunken sailor sections, there were some chicken walks at the beginning, and a few kick ball changes near the end.
I'm not sure there was single basic movement in there. There might have been a rock step or two, but I didn't see any chassés. And without those, yes, I'm not sure it's really a jive — you don't get the characteristic double bounce and hip swing.

I've no idea if Ellie can sing (she seems quite tuneful when messing about in rehearsal) but the way she's taken to the discipline of mastering new dance skills every week might signal a career in musical theatre could lie ahead if she wanted one. That American smooth wouldn't look out of place in Crazy for You or Top Hat. She can act and dance so would have a fair few stage options plus she is a "name" and if she could hold a tune she'd be an interesting option for musical roles. There isn't an immediate role that jumps out to me for her to play but I'm sure there are several which would fit her skillset. She'll likely do the Strictly tour, would get lucrative panto offers for next winter, Corrie guest return, possible plays, musicals or the holy grail good TV roles post leaving Corrie.

Nikita and Layton's I agree was more like a show dance. I would have thought with his poise and energy a jive would have been perfect for Layton but if his feet naturally point the other way he'd still need to correct that. I think Nikita will look to give him challenging routines but wouldn't go beyond even Layton's considerable ability.
Nikita is likely looking for those 9's or better as a score of 8's can mean you fall into the bottom 2 although Layton would likely be saved.
Johannes gets more kind as every week goes on, everyone non bigoted would love him as a friend. Annabel still looks amazing for her mid to late 50's and her doing the show is the best therapy she could currently get.
I'm going for an Ellie, Layton and Nigel final with Ellie winning.

The main complaint on various forums on Saturday night was that Layton and Nikita did more of a showdance than an actual jive. Doing everything at a high octane level gets tiring to watch. Sometimes less is more, and a bit of subtlety goes a long way. This is a fair criticism for sure, though one that should be aimed at Nikita and the other Strictly choreographers, more so than the contestant. It seems the main way Strictly seek to level the playing field with dancers of different experience levels - by giving them different difficulty levels in their routines. Krishnan is not going to be called upon to do a standing back flip in a dance, but because Layton is capable of challenging lifts and flips they keep putting them in his dances. And I can see this being perceived as 'showing off' but it also means there's more margin for error - I remember AJ was doing great in S19, then she messed up a complicated lift in her Salsa and it landed her in the B2 for the first time. I'm not so much of a purist that I mind the flashy moves. But it is also not only Layton and Nikita that are doing this. Kai will look for opportunities to have Angela R go into the splits because he knows a 78 year old woman doing that is very impressive and bait for votes. It's not actually needed for the dances. But Layton and Nikita have an AT next week so will be back in hold for the most part. And yeah they really drilled those Billy Elliot moves into those kids, right? I've seen Tom Holland whip out the same flips and spins years later too.

Layton's dance was a show dance, barely and jive in it.

What a surprise, Angela Rippon has avoided another samba or salsa. She has got a paso though so it could be as deadly for her.

I wish AT music choices were more appropriate
That doesn't mean that it should be Libertango every time
But it is a dance that works best went it has the authentic sound of a smoky bar in Buenos Aires.
Tattoo just evokes a completely different atmosphere

I suspect Krishnan and Annabel have been given Sambas to nudge them into bottom two territory so the producers can keep Angela R in the contest for Blackpool week.

Bamboleo has been used at least three times before as a Samba on Strictly. Time to give it a rest

Angela R, Annabel and Krishnan look to be the 3 in danger looking at the various dances. Angela S should score well with the waltz and now we know she has sexy knees.
If ever any of the older contestants wanted to pull an injury angle it would be this week. I still think it will be Angela R and Krishnan in the dance off if I was put on the spot. They will still play on Annabel's couples choice and the emotion there and JoJo would get a lot more votes than Kai or Lauren would get.

Prediction, when Ripon gets to blackpool they’ll recreate her Morecambe and Wise “Let’s Face The Music And Dance” routine, Kai will have the Eric specs and she’ll be wearing a repro of that dress with the split up to her waist.
If they don’t do this they’re fools 😌

If the idea is to get Angela to Blackpool wouldn't it have made sense for her to have her couple's choice this week. If that scores well it gets her to the Tower Ballroom.

Given Amanda's withdrawal, they have scope to do a double save of they really wanted to manipulate things....

I still think it will be Angela R and Krishnan in the dance off if I was put on the spot. If it is those two then I'd be fine with Angela getting her Blackpool week. Krishnan is easily the weakest dancer left in the contest.

Krishnan is easily the weakest dancer left in the contest. I thought that the Halloween show was his target to reach so he has hugely overperformed and lasted longer than a lot of younger contestants.
