I can see Gio leaving too, the pros have revolved and a lot like Kevin, Pasha, Oti, Joanne have just naturally moved on. Others like Brendan and James were spectacularly dropped and are probably still in shock over it. Karen and Kevin were separated and still on the show together so Neil and Katya it doesn't seem an issue. He has anew partner and baby so is clearly happy and Katya could probably get most available men if she wanted!
I think Neil is pretty happy in his role he doesn't have to do all the training of a celeb, can do the group dances, does his workout weeks on Morning Live. He is probably almost like a "super swing" who could step in if a pro was incapacitated and as Matt said is available to assist the couples with training. This likely gives him a nice life balance with the new arrival.
I could honestly see Nadiya leaving as this is the 2nd time in 4 series she hasn't had a partner. I can understand it in lockdown year as she has a daughter and the bubbling up might have caused issues with that. But she just has to stand there each week looking stunning like a spare part.
Karen is the longest running female pro on the show possibly in the show's history and I always thought she was probably more of a natural to move into presenting than say Janette and Oti. She is a big personality on the show and is still an amazing dancer, her being in her 40's is no consideration to her still being on the show as Anton was trotting out there well into his 50's.
Dianne I think has ambitions beyond Strictly so might move on especially if she won it plus is in a long term relationship with a high profile YouTuber so has her following on Social Media if she wanted to go full time in that direction or could move into other TV/stage work.
Johannesis a huge personality and very populsr as well as having a huge likeability factor. His solo tours have done very well and I could see him being offered stage roles/TV work in a similar way or maybe more so than Dianne might be.
They probably don't want a big turnover of pros but if some move on naturally or one or two need to be refreshed this can happen gradually.

I would not be sad if Karen or Katja left. Both pushed past me as I was coming out of Janette and Alijaz's show last year.

I've felt Karen looked not herself this series, and seemed sad and distanced, but she had a break-up so that may be why.

They've proved over the years that nobody is irreplaceable. Lauren and Nikita and Vito have really come to the fore this series, and next year it'll be someone else. Maybe it's wise to go out on a high, if other opportunities are forthcoming, and all dancers are aware that they have a limited amount of time at the top of their field even if they avoid injury, so they need to plan ahead.

Apparently he is loving spending time with their daughter and they have a Christmas tour I noticed so he is keeping busy. |

Is there a real rule that a taller girl cannot dance with a shorter male. Nadiya is 5ft 8ins so 5ft 10ins in heels so she'd only need a male partner who is 5ft 10ins in bare feet so not a real height issue. Kai is 6ft 2ins which is taller than a lot of male pros but Alijaz always looked over 6ft and Johannes is a similar height. Kai looks bigger probably because he is thicker set build and more muscular than a lot of the other male pros. Natalie Lowe was 5ft 10ins and she often had the taller celebs too but height shouldn't be an issue given they had Ellie Simmonds as a celeb last season and what if Sir Brucie had persuaded the late great Ronnie Corbett to have been a celeb contestant in earlier series? |

A thought has crossed my mind.
When you get voted off, that it. You're gone.
However (possibly in wrong) but in previous years, after being voted off, about a week or two afterwards when the camera pans around to the audience to see either a celebrity, or relative watching, they would sometimes show a contestant from the current series watching to support their remaining colleague strutting their stuff on the dance floor.
However, I have seen this in ages! It's like when you're gone, you're gone!
I wonder if a no return policy, except for the finale- not even as an audience member- is written into their contract?

I agree fully, Nadiya has the classic beautiful blonde look and even did Playboy but there is maybe the humour, empathy lacking which other dancers have. I don't know whether with English not being her first language she may not know the exact words to use when engaging with a dance partner and trying to explain things or deal with issues they may have about the dance. Plus say a Katya comes across as a bit more crazy, maybe outgoing than say Nadiya and Luba are. There are a lot of dancers who don't have English as their first language and all speak it fluently and know the terms but maybe a Katya, Gio etc can convey the depth and emotion of what they mean better. Also I do wonder if the pros can see the pairings in their minds and say Nadiya might not have been thrilled with landing a Les Dennis or Krishnan and this came across whilst for say Lauren getting a celeb partner is a big thing for her and she has seized her chance with Krishnan to showcase what she can teach him. This could well land her a real contender next year. I've always been a huge Nadiya fan and I think only her and Neil have been world champs out of the pros and IMO she is the hottest female dancer on the show so there is no way I'm trying to knock her. |

Really not keen on most of the dances this week
Zara will clearly be in the dance off
It was dreadful music for the Paso and it had a bare minimum of paso content
And that Tango was not worth 36. Missing the basics means you should not mark it higher than 7.

Some initial thoughts.
Costumes, hair and make-up- Score 10! I thought all four judges and the celebrities and the professionals all looked sensational!
For me the best line of the evening- Vito "What is goosebump?"
Given that they were down a contestant without Amanda, anyone else notice how the VT's were just that little bit longer, as were the discussions with Claudia?
(Again) for me the best graphic was the swan at the beginning of Angela's swan lake routine with Carlos. BTW loved the routine!
Kai is such a gentleman with Angela.
You can tell when the judges love a routine by how much they gush in their comments.
If I were a gambling man, I'd be putting Zara and Annabelle in the dance off.

Putting a paso as dance 1 is a complete stitch up, you need warming up to it.
Zara is definitely gone this week, but I’m not sure who will be in the dance off with her.
I feel like I haven’t connected with anyone this year and I feel less emotionally invested. Amanda was my favourite, but she’s now gone. I guess I’m rooting for Ellie above all, but honestly I don’t care too much.
Every single week I forget about Bobby. He comes on screen and I’m like “oh yeah, he’s in it”.
Edit: ALSO, no one seems happy with any score unless it’s a 10 now. I’m seeing couples react to a 9 like it’s a 6. I don’t like that it’s got to this stage.

The costumes were amazing. I still wish Tess and Claudia would dress up. The Daily Mail ran some crap about the presenters not dressing up since Claudia's daughter had that horrific incident with her Haloween costume. The presenters have never dressed up I can understand Brucie maybe not wanting to or them just doing the joke how scary he looked when he was in his normal evening wear. But I would have thought Tess would have wanted to and Claudia always has that semi goth look so her outfit wouldn't need much tweaking. I don't know if the make up would run under the lights or having to present in costume might not be pratical etc?

Predictably, I loved Nikita & Layton's vampire tango. I'm a big fan of the theatricality the boys are bringing to each of their dances, with different personas and relationships each time. I really loved the choice to switch who was leading mid-dance, made the whole thing feel like a (very sexy) power struggle. I know they won't win (because the best dancers apparently aren't allowed to), but so long as they stay in till the final and I get to see their take on each dance, I'll be satisfied.
Ellie and Amanda S are the only other contestants that are impressing me at this stage. Bobby being the current favorite to win feels absurd to me. He's yet to show anything other than very average dance ability. Tyler West was a far better partner for Diane last year and undeservedly went out too early.

Angela Ripon was way overmarked. She was sat down on a bench for a good portion of it - no doubt catching her breath which is fine but let’s not kid ourselves - and the time she was on her feet looked fairly loose and sloppy to me. As expected the fast dances are exposing her.

I didn't like that Addams Family routine.
We had Wednesday, Morticia and Gomez with a CGI Things.
Where was Pugsley, Uncle Fester and Grandmama?
I just knew not only that Zara would go, but there's be some sort of teary speech, spoken through sobs.

Bookies still have Bobby as favourite closely followed by Ellie then Nigel, Angela S and Layton. I'd make Ellie favourite personally as after Layton I think she is the best Celeb dancer and she has a high profile having been in Corrie. Bobby may have his fangirls and is in EastEnders plus Dianne has a big fanbase.
But Bobby will have to step up his game to make the final, if say in the quarter or semi finals he ended up in the dance off against Layton I could see there only being one result.

It's hip height for ballroom that's the issue. In general, ladies have longer legs proportionally to torso than men. So if I'm dancing with a man, generally about six inches taller than me is best for having our hips line up when I'm in heels. But if I'm dancing with another girl, then generally somebody closer in height to me will work the best. (Depends on individual bodies obviously, but as a rule of thumb, about 6" difference for mixed and same height for same sex works well.) You only have to look at Bobby and Dianne dancing ballroom to see why bigger height differences can be awkward! |

I was recently rewatching a few dances from S18 and remembering how good HRVY was - another young male celeb the same age as Bobby with similarly lanky build. HRVY would've been a very deserving winner in his season. They clearly want Bobby to have the same Gen Z fangirl appeal (and seemingly he DOES have it) but Bobby just isn't showing the talent/improvement of other contestants of this type. |
