I thought everything about Angela Scanlon’s dance was meh. Totally insipid.and whoever put her in that drab, pale pink costume with the messy red hair… what were they thinking? Poor girl looked totally washed out.
Can’t take to that Adam guy. Find him difficult to watch. I think he’s very fake.

I thought this week's show really disappointing.
Layton Williams - I just don't find him likeable. But then I never warm to the 'experienced dancers'. Ellie Leach - Love her, her dancing is beautiful, she really throws herself into the theme every week. Vito is like a big puppy. Angela Rippon - Yes, she is over marked but she's still great. I love her partnership with Kai. Bobby Brazier - He started well but is dipping now, something is missing. Adam Thomas - Couples choice is always overmarked. I used to dance like that in the playground. Krishnan GM - Really love watching him dance, he's really embraced the whole experience. Love how Lauren never dumbs his routine down. Nigel Harman - He's really dipped lately, I think the judges are very harsh on him. Angela Scanlon - So inconsistent, she's either amazing or frantic. She has so much energy and will to perform it can come off as manic. Zara McDermott - Trying hard, but just not a natural dancer. Annabel Croft - She seems so shy, like she's holding back, her Charleston was so average. Eddie Kadi - Gets by on great rhythm and charisma. Amanda Abbington - She is missing something, not sure what it is.

Layton & Nikita's Cha Cha currently has more views on youtube than any other couples dance so far this season. Their Quickstep and Samba are also among the most viewed alongside dances by Angela & Kai and Bobby & Diane. If those viewing figures are an indication of popularity (??) then it would seem Layton & Nikita do have fans. Are those fans actually voting? Or will there be an assumption that Layton doesn't need public votes to stay in?
I don't find anything unlikeable about what I've seen of Layton's personality (I feel like he's just getting the Ashley Roberts treatment where people are reading conceitedness into him just because he's very good and deservedly getting high scores). But every year, I tend to be in a real minority who would actually like the best dancer to win rather than it be a best personality/best journey contest. It at least feels unfair that anyone with previous dance experience (and Layton is not the only one this year) is instantly disqualified from winning in the minds of most voters, often being vilified as if they are cheating. It is the programmers decision to have a mixture of experienced and inexperienced celeb dancers. It might be fairer to make it all of one and all of the other - but then without the likes of Layton (who are great from the early weeks) it'd would mean waiting a long time for any top quality dances on the show.

You know, when they show the short VT's at the beginning of each celebrities dance and ow they tug at the emotional heartstrings of the viewers by saying 'It's all about my family' or 'They just mean so much' or 'I'm dedicating this dance to my family' or a lost one; as a viewer, it just doesn't work on me- in fact, it has the direct opposite of the desired effect.

Rumours flying that Amanda has pulled out of the show completely
Not official yet but if true, it is a huge shame. Hope she gets well soon

I see some on social media are mocking her for raising the issue of mental health conditions
That is shameful
I hope she gets proper support from the show and everyone who matters.
Anyone who thinks that mental health is something to mock is beneath contempt.

There have been rumours that Amanda and Gio weren't getting on for a few weeks. So we don't know exactly what was going on. She had all that issue when her fiance got paralysed a couple of years ago so we don't know how that affected her and whether she was having to spend too much time away from him or what his care needs might be.
As someone who has suffered with mental health issues I agree it is wrong to mock them or if anyone can mock that then don't moan if others mock things they might find offensive.
Amanda was a possible finalist or likely to make it past Blackpool at least. So I guess it is a 3 person final now which means one possible finalist goes out a week earlier.

She was my favourite in the competition, what a shame. Also I have seen zero signs of a rift, and even if it was it was during week 1 rehearsals and they sorted it out. I thought they seemed very connected.

This is most unfortunate.
I believe that no one will truly know what happened except Amanda, Giovanni and the BBC producers and legal department.
If the problem was Giovanni and something he did or said, then I hope the right sort of action is taken to prevent this sort of thing (whatever it was) from happening again and putting off any contestants from taking part in the future.
If it was Amanda, then she needs to be aware of the Terms & Condition of the contract she signed.
Either way, both the BBC and the show do not any scandal and will quickly brush this under the carpet and move on, focusing on the remaining contestants.

This is only conjecture on my part, but Amanda was getting a lot of stick on social media which, I imagine, was not expected by either the BBC or Amanda. I think anyone's mental health would take a hit under those circumstances. I'm not sure I'd be able to continue such a high profile job under those circumstances. Nor would I expect my employer to expect me to.

Although having seen her latest statement it’s looking like a problem between her and Gio. That’s a great shame.
And unprofessional in my opinion. You have to get on with the people you’re working with. Its a fact of life that you won’t always see eye to eye.

Thanks for finding that post BurlyBear and they are very sensible and considerate words from Layton.
As regards Amanda we have had Will Young and Danny John Jules pull out in recent years for what were possibly similar reasons to Amanda or possibly lesser more personality clash issues with their pro partners.
We don't know how much interaction there are between the couples and choreographers who assist with the dances before we consider the producers of the vignettes etc so there could e creative differences there which makes partnerships stressful. The pros and the celebs are supposed to be carefully matched and Gio has past form of being romantically involved with some of his past partners and pro dancers on the show so I'd think he is paired up carefully and there must have been something that made them think him and Amanda would click.

Ever so slightly off topic but personally, I think Giovanni has been looking a bit bored throughout this and for a couple of season now- like he's just going through the motions.
I hope that whatever has happened that Amanda is well and receives whatever support that is deemed appropriate.

I completely agree, I think he peaked with Rose. Personally, I think the boredom started before that. Even when he was with Rose he was saying things like' the points/scoring doesn't matter'. Well to the celebrity contestants it does!

It looked like they got on really well so would be surprised if it’s due to him. But the original legal statement is quite telling about something.

Nevermind all the backstage drama, how do you do a Charleston to the theme from Murder She Wrote? I forsee lots of faffing around with a typewriter and Angela/Jessica and Kai finding Neil Jones guilty of upstaging them to death at the end.

I hope that whatever has happened that Amanda is well and receives whatever support that is deemed appropriate. I think after he won he's been more interested in raising his own profile and doing his own shows. I heard from someone that he'd said he won't do the Strictly Arena Tour again as he wanted to do his own shows instead. So this could limit the quality of celeb partner he'd get if they known he won't be on the tour although Amanda was a good dancer and likely to go well past Blackpool week and be a possible finalist. Plus he has been doing the double header with Anton and gettting good crowds as well as the TV road trip around Italy they did. So he has work away from Strictly, throw in the potential of pantos and other stage work so I could see him leaving Strictly sooner rather than later to do is own thing.

I think he'll leave this year, he's seen what Oti has done.

I think he'll leave this year, he's seen what Oti has done. I think there might be a pro exodus. I think Karen will go, maybe Gorka, I don’t think Luba is a strong enough personality. But will they let such big names leave all at once?

No partner and it must be awkward as hell being in the same studio and with such closed proximity your ex after your new partner just gave birth to your child!

Neil and Katya are great friends, they get on really well. If you watched her on celebrity hunted you got a good insight into their relationship. I kinda feel that Neil has accepted his role on the show and is happy to continue in that way. Apparently he often goes to help couples in rehearsals too.
