This seems to have gone very quiet. Knowing that the announcement for the Xanadu cast came out around this time last year makes me think that an announcement is imminent since SS is running at the same time Xanadu did. Who is everyone wanting for the three guys?

You say this every week, just bide your time, an announcement will come when it comes, just wait for that day whenever it is I'm just saying and speculating because something was tweeted. Sorry if it's annoying, i dont know? No, not annoying in the least, just a bit repetitive in my eyes. Might just be me though

Ripley auditioned for this production in fact, and she was very far along by all accounts. I think her voice, while significantly weakened over the years, is still phenomenal and the passion she puts into every performance is really quite something! She'd be a much better Griz than many would give her credit for. Her recent As If We Never Said Goodbye shows that perfectly I think I like Alice Ripley, and I think she can do wonders with a beefy role. But Grizabella's only job description is to sing Memory and stop the show. Despite how much "depth" some very serious actresses give her (Betty Buckley really dug into it), all I want is a just someone who can belt the living crap out of it. I don't mind if they can sing then act than act then sing. You've got a point there

Hoping for MT replacements, someone like Alice Ripley, Emily Skinner or Carolee Carmello Have you heard Alice Ripley sing, um, in the last maybe ten years? Her voice is absolutely shattered. I doubt they'll go with Ripley or Carmello considering how they've cast it in London. Ripley auditioned for this production in fact, and she was very far along by all accounts. I think her voice, while significantly weakened over the years, is still phenomenal and the passion she puts into every performance is really quite something! Doubt it - lots of the cast have already moved on Yeah I doubt the ensemble but I meant like the main cast - Claire, Tony, Brenda and Peter? I really did like that cast Still doubt it, Tony moved on before the end of the tour if I remember rightly and knowing what Hairspray does with their casting, it seems unlikely that someone would reprise their role. The only ones to have done it in the past have been Freya who has done it quite a few times, and Sandra Marvin who is known now for being able to quickly cover for Maybelle. I think it would be unlikely for Brenda to go back, especially since she got so ill last time

To people who saw it last year at the Arts and on tour or in this new engagement, what have been your thoughts on Aaron and Newton? Similarities, differences, your preference, anything?

I wonder if it will be the same cast? Doubt it - lots of the cast have already moved on

Do I have to have seen them or can I base one entirely on the score? 1. Rent 2. Sunset Blvd 3. Tommy 4. Les Mis 5. Bare I've never seen 4 of my top 5 but I still count them as being up there, so sure

Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Parade, Bonnie & Clyde, Side Show and Fun Home Probably coming in quick succession after that would be The Secret Garden, Carrie, Evita, Sunset Boulevard and Memphis. So that's my top 10 I would say!

I'm curious because I haven't seen a thread like this before on the forum before and it's something I find really interesting, what are your 5 favourite musicals of all time?
I'll start it off with mine - Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Parade, Bonnie & Clyde, Side Show and Fun Home

Color Purple is doing great business apparently but it does need those names to keep going. Not sure what will happen if Cynthia/Heather/Danielle decide to go since they aren't the easiest of roles

Saw in my local theatre's brochure that a new professional show will tour the UK in the new year. Been reading up on the synopsis and quite liked the story so might try and give it a go. Think this is the first professional production in the UK since the 2005 tour? Landor Theatre, last August. So no, this tour isn't the first professional production since 2005

ATG put a deal on to get top price seats for £35 for after Rebel left until late October the day after Baz put out that it would be replaced, so I doubt they would do that if they had any intention of closing after Rebel left.
Of course, it could be a major last ditch attempt to sell tickets, but who knows really?

Strictly Ballroom would've been cast for a while, so it's perfectly possible this is just like any other changeover.
I would've thought it was too late now to bring in a show with tickets only going on sale a month in advance

Chicago is one of the few movie musicals that was better than the actual show - in my opinion! Renne Zellwegger was amazing as Roxie! Catherine Zeta-Jones - that's all I'm going to say. Another possible Morrible in fact

And I've always thought Jennifer Saunders could make a good Madame Morrible. Joanna Lumley would do a great job too I reckon

The difference is Mamma Mia works with names because it's a fun, silly movie. Plus Meryl, Julie and Christine are all seasoned stage performers and know how to use what they have to great effect.
The difficulty with Wicked is that it's so theatrical and written for the stage. Those huge belty numbers are perfect on stage but on film, it takes work to do those moments well as well as getting performers who can do those roles justice vocally. Elphaba and Glinda were written to be performed by musical theatre performers and even MT performers can struggle to sustain those roles.
I could see Wicked being phenomenal, it has that potential, but I could also see it failing massively

Amanda has a good singing voice once she's been through post-production and the editing that happens to vocals through that period (Mamma Mia) and when she's not singing vastly out of her range (Les Mis). If Cosette was out of her range and made her sound like an animal screaming as it reached the slaughter house, there's very little chance her Glinda would sound much better

No, it was never planned to be a live event. What they mean by live is that the vocals were allegedly done live but we'll have to wait and see if that is actually true

I enjoyed this, although I found his own material to be a bit so-so. He has a huge bro-mance thing going on with Hadley Fraser -it would be a good source for some slash fiction if anyone's that way inclined. If anyone has any slash fic of them, please send it my way!

Usually it says "due to the indisposition of Sheridan Smith..." but it doesn't there. I presume it's because both leads are off? Probably, and by now everyone should know Sheridan isn't on even if she isn't listed on there

Even though he is fairly well known, he seems to have been forgotten about in this show with Sheridan being the "star" and everything that's happened recently. However, maybe he good headline the tour alongside a lesser known Fanny? If not, maybe Michael Xavier? Nah. Role not big enough. I mean, sidekicking to Glenn is one thing. Sidekicking to Hayley Tamaddon is another. Let's keep it real please. Michael could've done it four or five years ago, but he's surpassed it now and is now doing bigger and better roles with bigger and better names
