I am ashamed to admit my naivety got the better of me when this whole story first came up; I immediately jumped on the Cancel Johnny wagon.
What a disgraceful woman, I hope she is dealt with asap!

Bit sad about it ending at season 5. I was looking forward to Meghan Markle being cast in season 7, and to win an Emmy for her role as Meghan Markle.

Ah maaaaaaan, I'm genuinely sad about this! While yes, we do have a lot of Mischief Theatre about the West End and it was time they made way for something else, this play was genius and have never laughed so hard in my life. Streams of tears were coming down my face, and I liked it more than TPTGW.
With this news, I might go for a farewell viewing of this instead of Magic when I visit in Spring.

I am beyond devestated. Monty Python brought me through my terrible teens up into my turbulent twenties and the Flying Circus was one the funniest things I ever saw. One of my favourite things he did was the Undressing in Public sketch. Underappreciated but absolutely hilarious. Jones is a masterful actor, and arguably the most underrated Python. He was the best pepperpot, hands down.
I knew it was coming, I was expecting it, but it still hit me like a truck. Dementia is an horrible thing that I wouldn't let even my worst enemy suffer through.
RIP you marvellous looney. Go join Graham and have a jolly good catch up.

Thanks terribly for the help guys! Knew I could count on ya. So I knew of these King's Cross closures following the LNER Twitter and that but wasn't terribly concerned thinking "oh it's just a bit of routine engineering work, no big deal" ... until I looked properly and found out this is, as TallPaul said, a MASSIVE mainline upgrade that's happening throughout the majority of 2020. Yay! Like the sound of the Two Together Railcard, which reminds me of that very tempting 26-30 card... which I still haven't gotten round to purchasing... But yeah I think I might wait it out. I wasn't sure when the advance singles got released so that is a HUGE help, thanks. I found it peculiar that Grand Central have already got that weekend date available whilst LNER apparently haven't. Nice to know that Saturday afternoon travel is quiet, make sense of course. Great news for the mother. (Once I had to get an Sat evening train home and while I didn't get football hooligans etc, I did get this strange guy in his early twenties pottering about up and down the aisles shouting Love Island quotes and accidentally breaking an armrest off one of the seats, whilst his mum and dad (sat in front of me) just laughed at him.) And I wasn't aware there was already a thread for this, thanks for merging!

Can give your destination and date? Ah sorry that would've been a good idea! So it's April 11th, and the destination is Bradford (it has two stations, either is fine - going via Leeds is fine too)

Wonder if anybody can assist:
I'm in a bit of a pickle and not sure where to go for help. So I'm off to London near beginning of April with my mother and staying for 3 nights, Weds-Sat. As you've noticed, I have made the mistake of deciding to travel back to Yorkshire ON A WEEKEND, meaning train prices shoot WAY up (b/c only super off-peak singles are available, no advance tickets). Finding a cheap (by UK standards) ticket going to London was fairly straight forward, around £20 each.
So my current options are:
- Give in to National Fail and pay £108 for us both to get back home.
- Get a morning flight back from Heathrow, costing £84 for two, and get us back MUCH faster (I still, even now, do not understand WHY flying is cheaper than the train).
- Hop on the coach, pay roughly £12 each, and suffer on the M1 for 5 hours (mother is heavily opposed to coaches, so I want to avoid this as much as possible).
- Wait. I've noticed sometimes advance weekend single tickets can crop up as we get nearer the date of departure but I'm not sure whether to take that risk?
I've tried splitting tickets, I've done all that carry on, didn't work, so £108 is the best I can get it down to.
My friends, if you can, help a Northern lass out! Maybe there's something I've missed? I usually miss the glaringly obvious, I'm quite good at that.

I missed the courtroom? ep, and will catch up soon but the one last Friday was good. The jammed kitchen door made for some excellent moments as the story progressed, and the first time the laughing gag started, tears were streaming down my face I was laughing that hard. Then it came up again, and, dare I say it, it overstayed its welcome a little?

Yeah, just use contactless, as long as you're using a UK card. I found Oyster to be very fiddly, and constantly stopping by ticket machines to top up was a time waster (I never did put enough on the card despite how many times I've visited).
Side note: Wait, did I read that right? Why is the visitor Oyster non-refundable whilst the regular is? Is there something I'm missing?

Doubt they'll roll in drones round my end. We're still getting used to homing pigeons.
Anyway, got on the bus today and asked for a regular day ticket, to be met with a very upbeat bus driver (shocker) saying something like I look quite young to be purchasing an adult ticket. He then, with a slight wink, chimed in with "Are you under 19?". He clearly wanted me to go along with it, so I nodded and said yes. So he gives me the child/student pass, half the price of an adult one.
I rarely get ID'd when buying alcohol, and yet... this still happens...

I went for an appointment at a Santander "Work Cafe" in Leeds yesterday, and they offered me a free barista coffee to take away, which was very nice. As I don't drink coffee tho, it was wasted on me, so I gave it to a homeless man round the corner. I felt great afterwards, and the man was very appreciative, however small a gesture it might've been. That is really nice! When I visited Leeds a couple of months ago, I started giving my leftovers from a restaurant visit to homeless people just around the corner (I mean, I did it twice, but you know). Otherwise the restaurant will just throw the food away, while homeless people are really happy to get it! So now I am going to try to do this more often. As a side note: there are a lot of homeless people in Leeds (and actually in the entire UK), I noticed. Quite sad, especially when it is so bloody cold outside! Ah! That's a great idea, I'll make note of that! (Not technically restaurants but I know Pret and Greggs have a policy about leftover food and they donate those to food banks, homeless charities and whatnot, but most just throw their stuff and it's sad.)
Yeah, there were quite a number of them I spotted on my travels yesterday. Whilst on my way to retrieve the coffee even, I saw a homeless girl camping in an doorway. I've never helped someone on the street before. I've always passed them and felt awful afterwards for not doing anything, but that will change after yesterday.

I loved it and I can't wait for more to come! I insisted on showing my mum so we watched it together for a bit. At first she was like "...meh" until the snowman part, then she perked up, then got bored again.
Ugh, parents!

I seem to remember from when Absolute Hell was on at the NT that there are a fair few Charles Edwards fans on the board. He was one of the contestants in last night's episode of Christmas University Challenge as were Monica Dolan, Bob Barrett and Catherine Bott - all representing the Guildhall. Good competition against UCL. You can't possibly be referring to me right? Noooooo...
Anyway yeah, Edwards and Dolan graduated at the same time and are very close friends. Whilst they put up a good fight against UCL (someone on Twitter accused UCL of cheating at one stage), I felt bad for Edwards who didn't buzz in at all. Hopefully that was just down to being nervous or overly cautious, but whatever.

Saw it, mostly enjoyed it. While it wasn't as bad as what the critics were making it out to be, the Carrie Fisher bits were awkwardly placed and I felt Rey was massively OP, and it kinda annoyed me. Echoing what pretty much everybody else was saying, Driver was awesome in this and carried almost the entire film for me. John Boyega was wasted, he had an interesting arc in Force Awakens but then he just faded into the background for the rest of the story.
{Spoiler - click to view} My opinion of course but they should've let Rey die at the end, since she fulfilled her destiny or whatever and got the job done, and let Kylo live. Kylo was way more interesting than her, plus Driver is a way better actor, but I guess that's why he had to die so as to not overshadow the less talented ones... Also I was talking to my nephew in the cinema saying, "I won't say what it is, but I've already seen a spoiler about Rey--" to which I got immediately shushed by a man in the row in front, who turned to me and put a finger to his lips. I SAID I WASN'T GOING TO SAY ANYTHING, DON'T GET YOUR PANTIES IN A TWIST.

I came for Charles Edwards (obviously, though he wasn't given that much to do), and stayed for Tobias and his pin point Phillip accent and Olivia Colman's Emmy winning tear.
While most of it was good (ep2/3/6 excellent, ep5 a booooooorefest), they could have done more with the silver jubliee instead of shoving it at the end of ep 10 (and showing like 2 minutes of it), like moved it to season 4 and doing ep1 of that season centred on that? Also no Princess Anne kidnap?
And damn you James Graham for making me feel empathy for Charlie. He's a bleeding good writer.

Someone I know of who's absolutely obsessed with Mr B Daniels of Manor (that I'm keen to get down and see but not being a member is very unfortunate so here's hoping for day seats or something?) has actually gone so far as to fork out £100 for a membership (that they will never ever use) to get a ticket and even then only managed to get row S.
FYI they live in the US and have never been to London before so... Yeah.

The 17th. This went under the radar a little but last night Netflix Japan's Youtube channel leaked the official full trailer and it was up for a good few hours until they were forced to set the clip to private (after likely getting a humongous telling off from Netflix HQ).
But as with anything on the internet, when it's posted online, it's there forever.

Absolutely fabulous. I was dying laughing within the first minute! {Spoiler - click to view}The biggest surprise for me was Scaredy. Her runway looks were inspired, and not just a one trick pony that I was expecting, with all pink and kittens and stuff 24/7. I'll keep an eye on her. I hate to bash Gothy too much as she was very nervous but her performance and looks were exceedingly bad. Alan Carr's scathing comment about the tiger look had me roaring Also did anybody see Vinegar's original hometown look? How cool is this!! If only she'd got the licensing... *shakes fist @ TfL*

I am highly intrigued by this and I'm tempted to watch, tho the persistent plugging of it on adverts all across socials and even on Strictly is starting to bug me. I've seen reactions from US RPDR fans and most of them seemed to be moaning about how the UK contestants looked. British drag is a whhhhoooollllleeee different kettle of fish, darlings. Much more comedy orientated, for the most part, and much less fish and glamour. Now it's the Americans' turn to scratch their heads at the celebs on Snatch Game

I struggle to go on Twitter or watch TV anymore due to the absolute mess the HoC has turned into. That day everybody returned to the House, all the shouting and chaos that went on was unbelievable. I'm scared for the future, and I am starting to lose sleep over it.
I too despise Corbyn to no end (I despise all MPs tbh), but he would be a better choice than that idiotic blond twonk sat opposite him.

It is a truth universally acknowledged that there are two types of people in the world - those who come from Yorkshire, and those who wish they did! As a Lancastrian having migrated to Yorkshire (where I await the death penalty if I were to return across the Pennines), I absolutely concur. It's chuffin' lovely here.

Went to see Michael Palin (Sir) on his Erebus and Python tour last night. Very informative and enjoyable, but then I expected nothing less from someone with the calibre, charisma and charm as Palin.
But some of the audience I had to deal with clearly weren't used to being inside a theatre.
Despite having the ushers walk down the gangways with massive signs telling the audience to turn off their phones 5 minutes before it started, THREE of them went off. Michael didn't seem too phased by it, at least on the outside, but at one point he stopped talking and said "Answer that" when the first mobile rang. And then during the interval, a guy took out his camera to take pictures of his friend standing in front of the stage (the friend remarked something like "We're gonna get into trouble".) and the flash was eye-blinding and sure enough, an usher immediately rushed over from her ice cream duties to give them an almighty telling off. "I told ya!" laughed the cameraman's friend.
*sigh*

Sorry to ask but I'd love to take the mother to see this as she's a long time Elton fan, but I need to know how explicit the sex scenes are because she is rather sensitive to seeing that sort of thing on screen (the moment there's any kind of sex on TV, she'll whip the remote out and switch it right over).
