Thanks for the advice on the seats, folks! Just grabbed C22 for £24 on a Sunday afternoon to top off my London trip nicely .

I read here that there is a pre-show before the play. What time do you recommend getting to the theatre to see it? I'm going this Sunday at 7 pm. Also what happens during the pre-show? About 15-20 minutes before the show starts, a few members of the cast and some of the understudies who aren't on that show, run around the auditorium asking people if they've seen a dog and shout out for it as if they've lost one. Ah yes. Me and my American buddy were there very early and some of the actors started going round asking about a dog (forget its name now), then they sort of gave up and one of the actresses asked my friend if he could be the replacement dog. He agreed then she asked him to do his best dog impression so he barked manically at her and she recoiled in terror.

Bit off topic but remember the dude who snuck into the National Theatre last year? Well, he got into the BB house last night and was just lounging in the hot tub before being arrested. (The guy gets everywhere!) Some of the housemates got very panicked, and understandably so.

Bah! It took the NT long enough to announce the cast!
I hope Danny Webb is playing the slimy film producer guy, Maurice. It looks a very fun role, as far as the TV film is concerned. I'd like to say who could play Hugh's ex, Nigel, but I've no clue. It could go to Jonathan Slinger, but it's not a big role at all.
Also, if I was a betting woman, I'd wager my entire life savings Jenny Galloway will be R.B. Monody.

I was nearly about to make a new thread on this topic, so I'm glad I had a dig through the archives and found this All the actors I've encountered have fortunately never been rude or nasty. They've only ranged from pleasant to absolute darlings. One of my favourite encounters was undoubtedly with Charlie Edwards (this may sound biased coming from me, but hear me out). One of the most humble, affable, and charming men I've come across. I am however taken aback by how tall he is. His 6'2" completely dwarfs my 5'3" when he stands next to me. He's a good hugger, too, as me and my acquaintances can vouch. (I could write a 100 page essay on my experiences, but I shan't.) Also Jemima Rooper is great, so is Martin Clunes, Andrew Havill and Olivia Williams. I saw Olivia behind the NT stage door in a purple dressing gown with her hair up in a towel, and she saw me and motioned me inside so she could sign my programme, as she wasn't allowed outside in a dressing gown, obviously. Even though I wasn't expecting her to show up, I apologised profusely for inconveniencing her but she wasn't at all bothered and more than happy to oblige. And then there's Michael Palin. There's a reason why nobody has ever had a bad word to say about him, because he really is that nice.

Echoing what Bae said, while it's great when actors have a social media presence, some are so modest, when they have a new project, they don't tell anybody about it until the very last minute (or not at all) and it can be frustrating, and it's even worse if they don't have a website or social media account at all.
As someone who runs a fan site, I have to be able to update my audience on an actor's new projects on the regular. My go-to is their Spotlight profile. It is the best thing you can have. It's updated by the actor themself or by their agent, and it informs you of stage projects that don't debut for several months, so it can give you plenty of time to plan ahead.
If you haven't got a Spotlight profile to access, trawling Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, this place, fan sites and regular Google searching (including using the "past week" and "past 24 hour" filters and using quotation marks) is the next best thing.

A minor cast update: John Sackville is playing Douglas Eden. That's 3 cast members discovered before the official NT announcement (we don't mess about here), but still no Christine

I’ve lost about 6 stone in the last year. Still got a little way to go for ‘healthy weight’. Congratulations, kathryn - that's a phenomenal achievement and I wish you well with your onward progress. Same here, kathryn! 6 stone is astonishing, well done! I hope you gave yourself plenty of pats on the back for that

Never watched CBB in my whole life, but I have been sneaking a peak at this year's. I've just found out that India has been evicted. Thank goodness. I mean she seemed to be good television but was a hypocrite and extremely annoying. I swear she couldn't start a single sentence without declaring "I am a woman" first.
And yeah, the term 'celebrity' is just thrown about nowadays. I know none of these people besides Ann Widdecombe.

Wow, thanks for the responses! I think I might do the whole Wikipedia history lesson thing beforehand, but leave it at that. I won't go mad, like I won't spend hours and hours on it. My friend's got the dress circle box seats at the side so (apart from some minor restricted views) we got the whole box to ourselves, and my friend says they can rap along and sing to their heart's content and not get any side-eye from fellow audience members I'm in one of those boxes tomorrow night so will let you know what the view is like! Oooh, thanks a bunch! Enjoy!!

It’s got a timeline thing in it as well which is quite nice. Some really interesting stuff in there about the restoration of the theatre too It does? That's ace. Problem solved then, tho I'll still want to wiki it for curiosity's sake. And yeah I'm a programme collector Wow, thanks for the responses! Went and got a much needed haircut this morning, first time in over 20 years someone other than my normal hairdresser has cut it. It now feels rather short even though I've only had around half an inch taken off the length I read this whilst I was sat having my hair cut. Creeeeeeeepyyyyyyy. Also did somebody say cake? Hello, you have my undivided attention.

Seeing Hamilton in a few months time with an American acquaintance. Problem is I know nothing about it and have never listened to any of the songs. I'm only going because my friend knows the lyrics to every song back to front and is obsessed with it.
Do I need to do my research beforehand and listen to the soundtrack or can I go into it completely blind? I don't want to waste £60 on something I absolutely hated.

48 is the new 30, absolutely. That's good to know, on that basis I must be back down to 20 again and can claim those under 25 tickets again! Hehe. But speaking of Entry Pass, those cheap seats for AH have all sold out, despite no cast announcement or anything. They all went only a few days after going online, too. Maybe I'm naive but I was rather taken aback.

Yeah, safe to say this will be after his NT stint. I just hope this play won't be too deep or convoluted (or incredibly long) for my tiny mind to comprehend. Now I wonder who Blakemore will cast as Bohr??
Just as a side note, Charles hasn't performed at the CFT for 21 years. Long overdue, huh!

Hiya basi1faw1ty , glad you found your way on to here. You'll find that your alliterative skills will serve you well on the board. We are really casual here, and don't have an intro place, so your debut in this thread is fine. Heheh, same here, TM. Oh jolly good, me thinks I'm gonna fit in well here

Not sure who we’re classing as “the male lead” in this... If it’s Hugh Mariner then Charles Edwards is a little on the old side really as Ackland states he is in his “too-late thirties”. Looking forward to learning who else is in the cast. (I can’t see Nicola Walker in this at all but we’ll see.) Yep, he's playing Hugh. It is true that 48 isn't exactly late-30s but he looks good for his age, so you know, he could carry it off. No big deal

While the vast majority of my theatre visits have been fine, there was one that was...meh. It wasn't anything major, just a case of bad etiquette. This was at The Woman in Black. I was sat pretty much at the front, and had nearly the whole row to myself. Then 5 minutes or so into the show and a family of 4/5 come in and proceed to fill the seats next to me. I wasn't so fussed because they weren't noisy or anything. But then the dad (or somebody I presumed was the father) got his phone out and continues to play on it throughout most of the show, ruining some tense/suspenseful moments. The light from his phone was nearly blinding me at points, and the pitch black auditorium was being illuminated by this beacon of light from this dude's mobile. It didn't ruin the show as a whole admittedly, but did dent my experience. Why didn't you ask him to switch it off? Cowardice, basically. It was fine though, I still enjoyed the show.

Hey ho, we gots a newbie. Sorry to barge in on your multiple convos, but I'd just thought I'd say howdy to everybody I'm Naomi, a 20-something aspiring autistic artist (I love alliteration) and chef (I make a damn fine millionaire's shortbread, so I've been told), from a far-off desolate land called West Yorkshire. Regarding theatre, I've only really started getting into it since 2011 (I know, I'm ashamed too), but I'm getting better (I think). Doesn't help I live 200 miles from the West End and have no money. My favourite show I've seen is either The 39 Steps at the Cri (2013) or The Globe's Richard II (2015), and my favourite actor is Charles Edwards, and I have been following his career for many a year (hey that rhymes) and have met him a few times as well. I know the theatremonkey from Twitter, so at least I don't feel like a complete Billy No Mates here So yeah, that's some basic info for you. Don't wanna say too much, don't want to bore everyone to death. (I hope I haven't posted this in the wrong place. I know most forums have an introductions thread but I didn't see one here?)

At the National, James Dreyfus was sat on my row for Strange Interlude in 2013. I later saw him at the stage door waiting to greet best pal, Charles Edwards. I didn't realise at the time as I only found out when my friend mentioned it hours later.
And, while this is not technically an audience spot, after a performance of Richard II, I saw Ben Daniels and Ian Gelder by the Globe gift shop, so that still counts? They had seen the show cos BD tweeted about it soon after.

The only cast members I am certain are in it are Charles (Spotlight profile) and NT regular, Lloyd Hutchinson (who tweeted about it). No idea who Lloyd will be playing, however. I found about about Charles' casting in November, and I'm rather peeved the NT still haven't announced the full cast yet.
I know it's early but I'm impatient.
Still, I'm just so bleeding happy CE is back in the UK, after he spent the whole of 2017 performing in Australia.
