First third is raw and exciting and a bit of a revelation - it becomes considerably less interesting once the pop star ‘transformation’ happens. I bought the love story - just - I didn’t buy the music industry stuff. Enjoyed it, though. Features an adorable doggy! The pacing a structure was all off, I just started getting bored an hour into it. The character is all about being “real and true” in the songwriting, but apart from refusing to dye her hair blonde (then changing it to another colour instead), she then seemingly overnight transforms into a fluffy pop princess with little substance at all. Apparently something was said to say it happened over the course of four years, but the sense of time made it seem like it all happened within one year. There didn’t seem to be any time for that kind of story telling, yet there was time for about an extra half hour of performance after performance.

One comment - I thought the bitchy publicist had a terrible British accent but on checking I find he's from Hendon! He seemed like a pound shop Orlando Bloom to me.

I must say the only other one I’ve seen is the Garland one and I did know the plot before seeing it. It was just one of those things that I thought people knew. I’m not sure where I first heard about it other than my parents playing the soundtrack to the 70s version.

Hmm, not a fan. The Judy Garland version is so much better.
Gaga is fine, but the film seriously drags in the final half and I thought it peaked too soon with the songs. They just seemed to get worse.

5pm matinees actually suit me very well. I can choose my work hours within a core set and can easily finish at 4pm to gander over to a theatre, then still be back home at a respectable hour.

Transferring to The Ambassadors currently booking 27 October to 5 January.
I think all the songs are on the recording, but they’re performed by a mix of Ben Adams and some of the cast from the concert version including Amy Lennox.

Eeek! I’m not sure how I feel about any of this. I can cope with most of it but Obi’s Washington, and ‘One Last Time’ is the moment I live for. Dom Hartley Harris has a great set of pipes on him so I’m sure will be excellent but...why are they changing it? Why can’t it stay the same? 😢🤨😳 I'm still holding out for Obi's One Last Time to be immortalised in some way through a Hamildrop. It's really quite something.

For me it was because I wanted a specific date, which is not usually the case. II lost all the £70 stalls seats in front of the premiums.

Finally managed to book but with the £95 premium stalls. They had no decent £70 ones left with 3 seated together without leaving a single seat. I didn’t stall once and still only had one minute left to go by the end. Awful site speed.
Apt that I’ve booked for Oscar weekend when we have our regular Oscar watching parties. It’s like a teenage sleepover for 40 year olds.

They’re not even opening the phone lines which is more frustrating. It just hangs up on you.

Lost my original wonderful Row E stalls and now stuck at the side of the Royal Circle. Really can’t stand people at wrk who act like something is urgent when it’s really bloody not. I wanted to yell at them “WHAT ABOUT ALL ABOUT EVE?”

Absolute crap. Got called into a stupid pointless meeting at work for 5 minutes. Had my tickets on the phone as I was leaving but I want 3 tickets - it gave me the price for 3 but only a confirmation for 2, so I refreshed and now in a long queue.

I remember watching the film when it came out about 10? years ago. It sounded like a bit of fluff but got some rave reviews. I remember liking it but can’t remember all that much about it at all now. I wonder if I need to rewatch before seeing this show.

Went last night with my housemate - just 12 days after having her knee replacement surgery so we arrived early and settled in Box D so to avoid the crowds. Staff were very kind and saw her struggling on the crutches so moved her forward to the front - it wasn’t necessary but it was appreciated.
Loved the box. Missed a part of the left of the stage. As I’m so familiar with it however, it didn’t bother me too much.
My first time seeing Ash Hunter. I must say I prefer Jamael as I found his dramatic performance and rapping skills to be superior. Ash playing it more for comedy with a kind of puppy dog look at the start and his singing was noticeably far stronger than his rapping, but otherwise he was fantastic. Sharon Rose as Eliza is a real treat! Beautiful lady and a gorgeous voice. Try to see her if you can!
Love that Cleve September has incorporated a quick ‘floss’ when he runs away after his rap during Take a Break, it got a huge laugh. Mike Jibson also nearly made Giles break character and burst into laughter when he was seated on the stool and bouncing around after I Know Him. Luckily he managed to compose himself.

I’ve seen Giles four times out of five, so he does definitely go on, Based on Twitter updates, it always seems like he is off. I agree his understudy must of done at least a third of the performances thus far. I swear Sifiso may have done more Burr performances than Ash has as Hamilton, and he actually has his ones scheduled. Seen the show 7 times now however and Giles was on for 4, although the first two were during previews..

Just watched the trailer now. It looks great. Hopefully LLM can pull off a decent cockney accent. Hopefully he hasn’t asked dick van dyke for coaching lessons. Am I the only one sort of hoping that he does a really *bad* cockney accent, in homage to the original? I almost think that was the point in casting him. Once again is he the only American there? Meryl doesn’t count as she’s the queen of accents.

I remember it was said a while ago that LMM would be in the London production at some point from 2019. I doubt he’ll be the next Alex though. Probably an extension of Jamael or someone totally new. It was only really mentioned as a possibility, however this was before he committed to do the production in Puerto Rico.

Not the same, but when I saw Kinky Boots recently, we were stuck behind a rather tall couple with very large heads. To make it worse they kept leaning over to each other to talk so we could barely see anything between them. By the interval we realised there were a few empty seats further along our row so we moved, having to step past two quite small women, who understood our plight when we explained why we were moving. When the second act began, the two tall people with big heads in front had also inexplicably moved along, now to be sitting directly in front of the two small women in our row. They then moved into our original seats to be able to see themselves!
One thing I find about tall people is that very few I've ever had the misfortune of sitting behind, ever look behind them to be conscious of themselves. No-one can help their height and some things just can't be fixed, but even me at 5'5" always look over to see who is behind me. There was a time last year when I went to a sold out cinema screening with my mum and we noticed two young children behind us, so we made sure to slouch down and ask them if they could see properly.

Does that mean the new cast starts on 1st or is it the last night with the current cast??? I really want to see this with Giles Terera. He was very helpful to me when I was doing a dissertation on The Tempest a few years back. 1 December is a Saturday so that evening will be the last show with the current cast - new casts never start on a Saturday! Wonderful, so I’ll be there on the Monday as the first day with a new cast - also my birthday!

I presume it’s not a full cast change. Surely it just means contracts are either ending or being renewed. I think Giles, Rachelle and Jason may go - based on nothing at all but a personal hunch.

I always wondered why it never tried its first(intended) open ended run in the UK to begin with. I know it’s an American film, but it’s just such a beloved story with almost everyone I know, I think it would have been more successful.

Jesus, you can really tell the fanbase. Just looked at Thursday matinees and its embarassing how badly it is selling. Clearly the fangirls are all in school. Its a shame as I loved the show, but wow, some dates it is barely a third full. Its sad to see. Saw a couple of not so flattering reviews from TimeOut and The Times. Both had valid points but I’ve seen some fans dismissing reviewers on Twitter as “boring”, “middle aged”, “you only like King Lear”, “don’t understand the young dialogue” The last one made me laugh as these middle aged reviewers were teenagers when the film was released.

Had a rather lovely time at the Wilton Music Hall in a fun update of Twelfth Night set in the 1920s, complete with a few jazzed up modern songs (Lorde’s Royals, Radiohead’s Creep and Gangsta’s Paradise)
