Well I prefer SAW to Max Martin songs, so sure.

Just got the email and booked it straight away! Front stalls for £42.50 not too bad.

Well I just booked myself in for June with some friends - it’s difficult to get them to any play unless there are big name stars in it so they jumped at this. Plus we loved Manchester By The Sea (the film).

Hello! Just booked this with the new tickets today and wondering if any fellow shorter theatregoers (I'm just over 5 foot 1 if the conversion is correct) have sat in Stalls Row G, as I'm a bit paranoid I might have gone a little close. Seems like it should be OK from TheatreMonkey (big fan sir!) but would love to hear anyone's experiences from around that area of seating. Thanks! That should be absolutely fine for proximity to the stage and almost a perfect view. Just hope you don’t have any tall people in front which can’t be avoided unless you’re in Row A.

Seem to have accidentally booked a front row stalls seat for May I accidentally booked one in Row C. Again, I was looking on behalf of friends at work and just must have slipped.

I’m yet to see this again in the cinema but then music for me is getting better and better with each listen and I enjoyed it begin with anyway. Isolated away from the film you can concentrate more on the lyrics and beautiful orchestrations. Definitely going to book a repeat cinema trip! That’s the thing I don’t get with some of the naysayers talking about the songs not being memorable. Of course they’re not going to immediately jump off the page to rival songs you’ve known your whole life, but giving them two or three listens wouldn’t go amiss before making a judgement.

To keep it warm - it was a long train journey (she's just clarified - it was Preston Station, not Crewe, where it started the high-pitched hunger squeaking - I wasn't with her but I heard it later and they really do make some unexpected sounds! Especially when coming from the bra area.) This sounds like a brilliant episode of a sitcom.

Well after reading this thread for the past day I’ve wimped out and bought my first ticket to Les Mis. Going alone on 13th July in the Dress Circle Row A as I suppose it’s one not to be missed.

The move is what is going to final push me into booking this show. It’s one that I’ve still not seen (I know, I know, I’ve just prioritised everything else cause I didn’t see this closing anytime soon) but I do really want to see this version with the revolve, so I’ll be booking in for a show between now and the move. I’ve never seen it either. I didn’t enjoy the film and overall don’t enjoy the music as I found the motifs incredibly repetitive, so I’m still in two minds whether to see it at all.

over time I grew tired of the scrum involved in buying concert tickets online and the lengths of time I’d spend standing in the evening of the gig itself. By the time I’d seen another three musicals (bought for me by my new boyfriend/now husband: WWRY, Chicago and Les Mis) I started choosing the shows myself. Eventually concerts were replaced by trips to the theatre, and now I see more theatre in a year than I ever did concerts. That’s exactly my experience over the last 10 years or so. I used to go to so many concerts, but through my favourite artists dying young and the established ones I do like hiking up their ticket prices, I’ve almost abandoned them bar a few. I like the structure of theatre going a lot more these days. There’s a designated start and end time, so it’s much easier to plan an evening or even go to a show on a whim. I don’t mind paying £100 every now and then for a premium seat on a special night out to see a musical for a fantastic view. I do mind spending £100 to stand in a crowd of thousands of people, being generally uncomfortable where a band or artist might or might not start the show before 9pm.

Probably a slow burn throughout my life, partly through my mum introducing me to the classic movie musicals whenever they came on TV. Couple that with Panto and seeing Starlight Express when I was very young - whenever we went to the theatre it always felt so special. - Mum would always insist on being right up front in the stalls no matter what.
As a teen, apart from being obsessed with Grease I didn’t go to many stage shows and was far more obsessed with pop concerts, but by my 20s I just really liked the structure and experience of going to see musical theatre much more. Hate to say it but Wicked was probably the one that sparked that final light that changed everything.

I'm going after Christmas and very much looking forward to it. I wonder if there will be more adults than children going to see it or parents dragging their children along. I think it's going to be a film that will attract a lot of us who where children when the original film was out and want to relive our childhood. Hasn’t everyone grown up with it though? It was made more than a decade before I was born and even when I was babysitting the neighbours as a teenager the kids were begging to watch Mary Poppins all the time. Went with my mother last night and she was a teen when the original came out, so never had the same experience of seeing it as a young child and even she loved doing it.

This was everything I wanted it to be. Was most amused at the row in front of us at the cinema, made up of what looked like 8 Hell’s Angels on a day trip. They were all sobbing together at the end.

A couple at the Old Vic in recent years - The Crucible and Clarence Darrow. I was just bored throughout and struggled to keep my head up. My friends loved them both and I had to feign interest in their post-show discussions.

Seeing this now and very much enjoying it from the first act. Show started 15 minutes late as one of the actors cut his hand on a glass moments before the start and had to be bandaged up.

Booking period extended to APRIL 2019 now. Why just one month? Potentially not ready to open up booking for an additional several more months but they may have wanted to have more seats on offer with the Royal Variety performance tonight. Hmm, well I booked a single front row stalls seat for end of April. Have just emailed all my friends and colleagues who are eager to go but don’t want to pay premium prices. No doubt they may miss their window by tonight.

I wouldn't include Heathers than that. Considering its a fan nominated award, I'm shocked it only got five nominations! I’m not sure that WOS don’t ‘curate’ the shortlist though - I’m sure Hamilton would have had enough nominations for Set Design (even if the set is the simplest thing about the show, the Hamilton fans would have nominated it for every eligible category) Edit: Also it was 6 nominations for Heathers I was more annoyed that the acting noms for Hamilton almost mirrored the Oliviers. I thought this might have been the chance to recognise Tarinn Callender and Obioma Ugoala.

I paid £30 maximum for a cinema ticket and that was for a Gala Premiere screening at the London Film Festival where the stars are there. For £40 I’d want Emily Blunt and Lin Manuel Miranda dancing on stage in the flesh.

Odeon’s response stating the price was in line with live events like sports and theatre is however ridiculous. What they should be doing in the press is promoting their Limitless scheme, where the charge for these premium seats is a simple £5 uplift.

I’ve been fighting a nasty case of food poisoning for the last couple of days - lovely surprise on my days off work and will not be eating at Frankie & Benny’s for the foreseeable future. Birthday plans all out of the window and my friend who was supposed to come couldn’t make it, so I really struggled to drag myself there with any enthusiasm last night.
Found a replacement with a work friend at the last minute who jumped at the offer. Her only prior knowledge of the show was me raving about it for the last year! Luckily she ended up loving it. We were Stalls Row F - I gave her the inside seat closest to centre so she could have the best view, then felt guilty when a tall dude sat in front of her. It was however for the best as the couple of girls next to me were singing along with every word. Seriously, why do people do this? At worst I’ll mouth along with some lyrics before I realise it and shut up.
Sifiso was on FIRE last night. I mean I’ve seen him on as Burr several times, but this just felt different. The hairs on the back of my neck stood up during Wait For It. It’s truly *his* role now.
Jon Robyns - Excellent. My friend whispered to me that he reminded her of Judge Rinder, which was really rather accurate. Seemed to be having loads of fun and the audience loved him. A perfect fit.
Allyson-Ava Brown - Those are some huge shoes to fill as Angelica. Didn’t quite have the same power as Rachel John but along with Jamael I could hear some hoarseness in her voice for The Schuyler Sisters, so I take it she might not be 100% well. Her overall performance on Satisfied however was excellent, plus the intensity of expression for her lines in The Reynolds Pamphlet. A lot stronger than the one time I saw Miriam Teak-Lee in the role.
Courtney-Mae Briggs - Couldn’t really tell for such a relatively small role of the main players. She didn’t have the same comic expression as Peggy, but neither did Christine Allado in her first few weeks.
Dom Hartley-Harris - Has such a strikingly similar voice to Obioma that it just seemed like a perfect fit for the role. My personal favourite moment in the show (as I keep blathering on about it) is One Last Time. That was the money moment which didn’t quite live up to the predecessor, but again first night and all. He should easily make it his own soon. He’s considerably shorter than Obi too, making the dynamic between Hamilton and Washington slightly different.
With only half the main roles and half the ensemble actually having left, it didn’t feel like too drastic a change. No idea if Jamael will continue doing Mondays - could be a one off for the occasion.

Anyone seeing the new cast tonight? Yep, interval now and the show is in very good hands. Jam on tonight as Hamilton. I think he may have been sick last week as I can hear a bit of a hoarse voice. Full report later.

Saw the matinee yesterday and really enjoyed it. Jonathan Bailey is clearly the standout, and not just because he gets the funniest material. It's probably the least Sondheimy Sondheim show I've seen (I haven't seen many) and I can't even think to imagine how Bobbi was written as a male character as it fits so well as a female. Speaking as an ever-single woman in her mid-30s, I really related to it!

Maybe everyone in the theatre spontaneously combusted after One Last Time.
Going on Monday now and trawling Dom Hartley-Harris videos on YouTube. I think the role is in good hands.

Just as I’m making progress in getting more of my friends to try out musical theatre, the West End is going to be full of dated ALW productions.

I really wish Killian had shaved for the part. I think a clean shaven Charlie is far more important than a bearded Jean Valjean of whom is not even being filmed.

I failed to see Beverley Knight in The Bodyguard twice but managed 2/2 for Memphis. Saw Sheena Easton only once in 42nd Street out of 4 tries. I remember being disappointed not seeing Richard Madden for Romeo and Juliet too, but I don’t think he could have saved that production either way.
