To those who have seen it...how loud are the pyros? I only ask because each night around 20 minutes before the end it sounds like a gun going off in the theatre!

As the Witches of Eastwick once said...’there’s no harm in dreaming!’
I know. How hard is it to just be pleasant and friendly here? Saying that it’s wonderful that since joining here this is the first thread that had felt mean spirited!

I just saw this...
The staff at the Palladium were asked to report back on any complaints about there being a bit too much Dick. None thus far apparently...

How about Mack the Knife? A good 'acting' opportunity too?

The pampering section at Harrods might accept a dapper theatrical monkey!

I really hope this doesn't seem like a really pointless thread to start but i'm looking for some help... Since moving to London mid-September I have let my hair grow and grow. I am looking like Sue Perkins and have been told it isn't really my style. I am a student living in Lewisham so don't want to splash out crazy amounts for haircuts and need some advice of any good places! I have stumbled across good reviews for Ted's Grooming room which, for £32, appears to give a very extensive experience. I just need a nice, simple cut and preferably form a good relationship with the hairdresser so I can return again and again! Any help is very much appreciated.

I still haven't managed to see Julian Clary's entrance. I've heard it's big and spectacular.

Has anyone won the lottery yet? I’ve entered everyday so far and no luck yet!
Is it the front row for this show?

I went to the signing and Q and A this afternoon at the Theatre Cafe. Out of interest, what does he sign? Presumably not his real signature, as that would surely give the game away. I'm unsure how to upload an image here. He just signed in a messy font "Stephen - Lovely to meet you, West End Producer x"

Must say, with regards to comparing the Menier to seeing a Disney Theatrical Production in New York, it will obviously be different. However, the Menier produces some great work. I personally think that the venue has a great atmosphere and the dinner and show deals are fantastic. Therefore I think that although very different, if the show and company are both good, an evening at the Menier can easily be as enjoyable as one in a Broadway theatre.
Plus, the point made about about nobody at the Menier being rich and the theatre not being subsidised...make sense. They charge what they have to and in return usually produce enjoyable theatre.

I gather this isn't selling out. Are there any good offers going or should I rely on schmoozing the box office with my puppy eyes? I think the Today Tix app has some discount. Otherwise, if you are able to, grab a day seat at 10am from the box office!

I don't usually usher and haven't for this production but often I think it's up to the producers to set the rules which Front of House staff follow. I will certainly feed it back though. I am sorry to hear about it though, sounds annoying!

Maybe Sondheim isn't your thing, Follies was never going to be 42nd Street 2.0, it's a much darker piece and that doesn't appeal to everyone and that's fine. I don't think its Sondheimin particular, as I love Sweeney Todd and Into the Woods, as well as some others he has contributed to ala Gypsy and West Side Story. But I just think it was maybe this musical in particular. But as you say, its fine, its just a difference of opinion and it was a fantastic overall production. I feel similar that this production has mostly faded in my memory. I'd take Company and Merrily We Roll Along over this. I'd love to see them again!

Would somebody who has seen a preview perhaps be able to post the orchestra setup for this production? Are there live strings or a lot of synth?

I hated this horrible show. I thought it had died like Viva Forever, Charlie and Bend It, damn! Why did you hate it? It's had some bad press and such but I really enjoyed it. To me it wasn't without a lot of flaws but it got me laughing and crying throughout and I don't cry easily!

laughter really bounces around the theatre in a lovely way! Oh good, I thought it was my imagination. I think it is because the audience is on 3 sides and angled towards the stage that does it. Either way, it's a lovely thing for any auditorium to be able to do. Yes! That and the fact that everyone seemed in a bubbly mood before the play started - always helps.

You may be lucky. I heard that the publisher is sending lots of signed copies out on orders also.. My copy isn't signed. Never mind. Does anyone know who he is? That's a shame. Maybe you'll be able to get it signed if he does another one soon! Some people do know who he is (obviously) but it's a very well kept secret. If anybody on the board does know, they won't tell you! I would love to find out

I wish I’d seen it. I do mostly enjoy the cast recording as I like Alexander Hanson. I love the lyric “I will miss the softness of skin. That moment when conversations begin.”
If this returns I’d definitely see it. Charing Cross theatre?

Thoroughly enjoyed my visit tonight to this wonderful new theatre! It's a stunning modern space from outside, through the spacious foyer and into the auditorium. There was a lovely bustling happy atmosphere inside and it's a welcome change having a comfortable seat with good legroom! Additional perks in the building include spacious gender-neutral toilets and self-service water fountains like at the National. They really have created a warm, inviting place that gets you in the right mood to see any play!
Now the play. I wasn't expecting to be too overwhelmed with this having read and heard mixed reviews ranging from average to good. Luckily, I really enjoyed it. Richard Bean has written a short drama which, with light comedy and bubbly pacing, makes for the perfect mid week theatre trip. The joy is that it never takes itself too seriously therefore when serious moments arrive for Marx we feel very connected with him. Although not hilarious, I thought, there's witty jokes and some farce that the audience loved. Performances were in my opinion sound especially from Rory Kinnear as Marx. For me, Kinnear is just a joy to watch and listen to. Oliver Chris gets slightly more comic reign in the latter half of the play which I enjoyed too. The revolve and set work well and never get in the way of the action onstage.
Really, enjoyed the play and the evening considerably more than I expected to. Four stars from me!
On a side note I thought it would be a fairly empty house tonight but in reality, it felt mostly full. Like others have said, laughter really bounces around the theatre in a lovely way! Well done Starr and Hytner - long may this new theatre continue to be a great success on the South Bank!

Will report back afterwards.
