Who played the Sultan yesterday as Ashley and Jordan Banjo were filming Dancing on Ice. Warren Russell went on for Ashley yesterday. I saw him in their first routine and he looked similar (from the back of the upper circle) and seemed confident at the front of the routine.

I don’t really like the size of the Delfont Mackintosh one’s now. I really just with that we had Playbills here in the UK! That would be a real treat. I’d even pay for them! Yes, but I hate the way some of those are in black and white! There seems to be no consistency. I get what you mean. I suppose I just like having a collection of the same thing from each show I’ve seen. If they weren’t free it would be a rip off as much of the content is the exact same in every Playbill. Perhaps it would be nice if all West End programmes were published by the same company? Is there a business idea there?

I’m still eagerly awaiting the cast recording. I’ve checked Spotify most days since April!

I’d also add that my recent visit to the Bridge was great. I really enjoyed the big open foyer rather than several cramped bars. It’s easy to find your way around and has lovely toilets. There’s also the added bonus (which the National also has) of water fountains before you enter the theatre.

I find Drury Lane and the Palladium to be lovely to get around with some spacious front of house areas. Always somewhere easy to grab a programme, drink toilet etc before the show...in my opinion.

Had Andy Nyman at Dick Whittington the other night. Sporting his huge black glasses and a Ghost Stories t-shirt!

I've noticed on the Delfont Mackintosh website that it not only categorises this piece as a musical, but also blatantly announces a gunshot within the show! Hope that's not a big spolier alert like it would be in {Spoiler - click to view} The Ferryman Looking forward to seeing this soon.

Does anyone know if the actors come out the stage door after evening performances? I seem to remember reading there were signs up for Cinderella saying the cast weren’t allowed to stop for photos and autographs and I wondered if this was the same this time? It depends. Different at each performance. Most often Charlie, Emma, Gary and Diversity exit through stage door. The others eg Elaine and Julian often take another exit.

I really hope Groundhog Day does come back. I saw it on Broadway during the previews and had a ball! Where would it go though?

Thoroughly entertaining afternoon. Show stop for nearly 20 minutes after In The Navy, not sure why. Didn't see last year's so can't compare but thought it felt very fresh and "properly done", which makes a delightful change from other pantos I've seen of late. Computer crash I believe. Was nice that they ran right through to the end this afternoon without cutting anything to save time! Glad you have a great time!

My top ten (plays and musicals) Best first.
The Ferryman Sunset Boulevard (Broadway) Come From Away (Broadway) Labour of Love 42nd Street Apologia The Girls Angels in America Groundhog Day (Broadway) Ink
Also...The Lion King (honourable mention as I hadn’t seen it for many years and was really moved by it.
Finally, my least favourite production this year was An American in Paris. Found it pretty uninspired and missed the point.
Here’s to a great year of theatre ahead!

Looking forward to seeing this on its final weekend of performances. Booked Row W of stalls based on dynamic pricing - how is this view for this production? Will much be cut off by the overhang? I hope Dick doesn't appear too small from my seat For this specific production most of the action takes place right at the front of the stage and the ‘special effects’, I think, look best from the rear stalls! Hope that you have a great time.

My aunt just revealed that the tickets I got for this last Christmas are in the centre of row H! Hope they’re worth the price that she’ll have payed! How much are the premium seats? £200?

In addition to the London Theatres book, I also got this. Which is huge! - London Theatres book is behind it for perspective. Great read, so far, although it does contain the entire shows book, which is annoying as I already have that in paperback. This does however have pictures from each scene accompanying which is as close as I'll get to seeing the show - for now. The Dear Evan Hansen book looks brilliant. Real coffee table stuff there! Is there much in the London Theatres book about the Palladium? I do so hope there is. Hoping to pick one up this week!

I really enjoyed this today. A great movie to see over the festive period. Enjoyed the cast and the beautiful montages. Left wanting for the realistic sadder ending but can understand why the choice was made to keep it uplifting. {Spoiler - click to view} Doesn't Charity die in the musical? Is that much later on in their life before he joined the circus with Bailey?

I found it odd seeing Sleeping Beauty in Glasgow today having seen Qdos' Dick at the Palladium. Some similar gags and scenes however the Glasgow version COMPLETELY family friendly. I do wonder why.

Hello all. I really hope everyone is having a great festive season. I have been curious about this so thought it may be worth starting a new thread. I have recently seen Dick Whittington in London and Sleeping Beauty in Glasgow. Both are Qdos pantos which use The Twins FX for a similar flying vehicle illusion before the interval. I have found these to be very cool (depending on where you are sitting) but do know the obvious method to pull off the effect. Does anybody know how the 'Fanny the Wonderbike' effect is achieved? Is this in a similar way? And Amanda Holden appearing to fly wireless!? I'm very interested.

Working in a West End venue at the moment I can say that security is taken very seriously. From the bag searches at the door, to more random inspections inside. Also, even the smallest issues or security queries within the building are responded to immediately by a dedicated team. It 'feels' safe. I think that's the point nowadays.

TodayTix do a podcast about how shows were created and they just released an episode on Kinky Boots which is really fascinating, if you're a fan of the show I recommend it. Is it on apple podcasts? I can't seem to find it there. Sounds worth a listen.

My Christmas present to myself is the above mentioned London Theatres. I've got 12 days to clear all the clutter from the coffee table! What a smashing treat! It looks like a wonderful book. Do let us know how you find it.

I really enjoy Tom Lister as Julian and he sings the part well. It would however be nice to see Mr Bowman play the part as Pat is such a rubbish part for him. I was honestly confused as to why Normal Bowman was playing him!

I am very much looking forward to seeing all upcoming productions at the Bridge Theatre. It's only 10 minutes from me on the train and a beautiful new venue. I enjoyed Young Marx and am excited for Nightfall in the Spring and A Very Very Very Dark Matter in the Autumn season. Perhaps there will be some good talks at the Bridge next year too?
Aside from that I am eagerly awaiting James Graham's 'Quiz' after loving Labour of Love and enjoying Ink. I think that he has more great plays in his future and they will be wonderful!
I've never been to Trafalgar Studios 2 so will be keen to see 'Strangers in Between' when it opens after Christmas.
If Santa somehow found me a ticket to see Macbeth at the National I would be quite in his debt.
After working seven weeks of panto i'll be ready for a good play! After all...The play's the thing!

In the article linked above Emma Gill says "If so much of the entertainment relies on jokes that are completely lost on the kids then surely that's when the true spirit of panto is also lost."
I think that really sums up my feelings. Having gone to pantos every year growing up in Scotland I became so fond of the whole family being able to have a great time, it's a shame that often that is no longer the case. There has always been a bit of innuendo in pantomime but it used to be in good taste.
I'll be seeing the Qdos panto at the King's in Glasgow next week and hope it's fun for all the family. It helps having Elaine C Smith, not a massive name who can be genuinely funny without crossing a line.

I honestly can't see this surviving long on Broadway. Perhaps a short run at New World Stages or such but not in a Broadway theatre.

Bumped into Mr Clary tonight between shows around the back of the theatre. He went in through the back door tonight, as only he can.
Looking forward to ushering it on Tuesday and Thursday and seeing it!
