If they're casting along the lines of the movie he is perfect. Broadways leads were miscast in many ways. Christian needs to be and look young, naive and idealistic. I think Rob would be great casting. Exactly. I love Aaron Tveit but he was always too old for it. 37 is too old for naive and idealistic. At 37 he could be divorced and saddled with grumpy teenage children! 🤣

I think he said at his Zedel gig on Sunday that it would be available digitally 'soon' but nothing specific.

Well that was an oddity. I wouldn't show it to someone who hasn't seen Wicked As it would put them off. I liked Isaac Powell and the girl who sang Popular. Didn't like the song they gave to Cynthia Erivo but loved her voice as always. Was Gavin Creel wearing a blonde wig? And has Kristen Chenoweth has surgery? If you take out the PBS adverts it only lasted about an hour. Popular was sung by Alex Newell, they are gender-nonconforming but also identify as a gay man. They put the wrong title up on the screen for Cynthia's song, they called it 'I Couldn't Be Happier' instead of 'Thank Goodness'. She sang it brilliantly, it had more heart than it often does in the show. Gavin's hair looked the same on American Horror Stories recently so I assume it's real. And we shouldn't speculate on Kristin (but yes I would agree). Amber Riley was great as well. Fabulous seeing her go from Effie to Elphie 😁

My thoughts so far:
Why can't two Tony-winning performers read an autocue without looking and sounding like robots?
Ariana Debose is a star.
Rita Moreno doesn't look 89!

I guess it's maybe different when huge names are involved - what happened when Glenn Close was ill and absent from Sunset, and Ria Jones went on? Were refunds/exchanges given then? That would've been more understandable if people were disappointed in not seeing a Hollywood star and seeing an understudy who would've been unknown to most of them. I know I would've been gutted if I hadn't seen Glenn. I wouldn't have expected a refund but an exchange would've seemed fair as it was sold massively on Glenn's name.
All of this probably warrants its own thread for further discussion rather than continuing to take up the Joseph thread 😀

I decided to see this in the end this afternoon, to fill the matinee gap before Rob Houchen's Zedel gig. Managed to get row E of the stalls for £25 direct from the Box Office, 10 minutes before the show.
It's really not great is it. Distinctly average all round. It doesn't benefit in any way from being turned into a musical in the way Legally Blonde and Hairspray did. It's a mostly forgettable score and a pale recreation of the film's key scenes but without the charm of its stars. Moments that worked in the film come across as forced and fake. The songs are also so 'middle of the road' it's a wonder the show's poster doesn't have white lines down the middle of it. I did expect better from Bryan Adams.
Aimee Atkinson looks stunning in those iconic outfits and belts her heart out but borders on caricature, and doesn't have the vulnerability or likeability that made Julia Roberts a star. Danny Mac was off so Alex Hammond was on as Edward, lacking any kind of charisma or drive at all. I found his acting decidedly average, and he only had one style of singing with the same facial expression and stance throughout. He definitely didn't convince as a dynamic powerful businessman. Rachael Wooding was probably the standout for me, they've fleshed the role of Kit out and she stole the show every time she was on. She sounded great in her numbers.
It was nearly a full house, and the typical 'hen night' crowd were in, even on a Sunday afternoon. Lots of completely unnecessary wolf-whistling and catcalling from the cheap seats spoiling various moments.
I suspect it'll run for a while, and do well on tour after that, but it's not one I'll sit through again.

Has anyone tried rush for this yet? I’m going to give it a go for the Monday matinee this week (great to see a Monday matinee, guessing it’s because of the bank holiday) but assuming it’ll be a tough one. I've looked out of curiosity over the course of this week, I haven't seen 2 tickets offered yet but singles have come up, generally in the back half of the Dress Circle 😀

It's a shame Good For You has been cut as it's one of the only times Evan is actually held accountable for his terrible actions. They are fleshing out the ending for the film so that Evan is shown to make up for what he did. As for the stage version, 'Words Fail' explains why did he did it and how remorseful he feels.

Decided to take the plunge and grabbed a rush ticket for this afternoon. It’ll be my first non-socially distanced event since March 2020. Well done, I've been trying all week! I'll see if I have more luck next week. Enjoy 😁

Was this show meant to be closing on 4th September or has it been brought forward? It's booking until 8th January 2022 😁

It does happen though - when Dove Cameron wasn't able to perform in Light In The Piazza in 2019 and Molly Lynch went on for her, the Royal Festival Hall (wrongly) tweeted that customers could get a refund/transfer if they wanted. There was a backlash and they ended up apologising on Twitter. Yes life happens but you can understand some irritation when a 'name' you're looking forward to seeing doesn't perform. But no, they don't owe you an explanation as to why they're not performing, just be gracious and accept that's the way life goes sometimes. Sometimes the understudies are amazing and you end up becoming a fan of someone you'd never even heard of.

It would be good to get the topic back onto Anything Goes.... there are numerous other threads devoted to Covid discussion.

Also the track listing shows that Anybody Have A Map, Good For You, To Break In A Glove and Disappear have all been cut from the movie. Shame about them cutting Good For You. Does seem a strange cut..... I suspect it's because Julianne Moore can't sing it. Makes me worry for 'So Big/So Small' but that is an easier sing, she'll probably speak-sing most of it.

I was disappointed when I first read they were cutting songs for the film, but I can live with those 4 being removed. I would've thought Disappear would stay, but I guess it doesn't say anything that several of the other songs don't.
'Waving...' sounds pretty much the same, I'm feeling like they might've overdone the drumming sounds in the new orchestration but Ben sounds great.
'YWBF' feels even more anthemic in the last 90 seconds than the stage version, and Ben's lines somehow feel more heartfelt and tender. I cried AGAIN. This film may ruin me.

I wonder what Ruthie Henshall will he doing in the concert? I assumed they would each be playing a role/roles as if in the actual production i.e the same actor plays Adam and Noah or Eve and Mrs Noah. So what is Ruthie playing? I'm intrigued to what the revisions to the score are too. The last time i was CoE was a concert at the Prince of Wales, back in 2012. It had Louise Dearman, Oliver Thornton (what happened to him?) And Russell Grant as the snake! Ruthie is....the snake! http://instagram.com/p/CS_fTSGo1Hx

Thank you, I did check their Twitter, looks like I was just too early! I'll save it for when Danny's back I think, no offence to Alex, I'm sure he's great, but no-one can compete with Danny Mac in a tux 🤣

Does anyone know if Danny Mac is performing this week? I can't find any holiday dates for hislm online. He's posted on Instagram that he's in Bognor Regis so I'm just checking. I was thinking about getting a Rush for this at the weekend but I'm not sure I want to sit through it if Danny's not in it!

Alice and Oliver are great but it is only a workshop, it's hard to get too excited about something we may never see. Also it's probably going to need a new title if it's going to be taken seriously.

I remembered I had some PAYG credits for the Southwark Playhouse so took a spontaneous trip down tonight to see this.
It didn't quite land for me. Rachel Tucker and Lewis Cornay both give great performances but the music didn't do much for me. There aren't many standout songs and it all starts to sound the same, however well it's sung. Rachel's 'The Road Ends Here' is the obvious highlight and she nails it. She really is one of the finest examples of how to act through song.
Worth a watch and lovely to be in such an intimate space. I'm giving the score another go on the train home but I can't cope with Carolee Carmello's voice, I might have to switch to the Kate Baldwin one!

If Sierra Boggess is doing it, I may have to rethink. As much as I love Jeremy, Sierra's voice is like nails on a chalkboard for me.
