I watched the film this afternoon, and as much as I enjoyed the show (I've seen it twice), I think the film is better. The musical sequences are done brilliantly and work better than they do on the stage, with the ones involving flashbacks having more weight behind them, and the new song for Loco Chanelle is miles better than the stage one. I also thought Max and Lauren were both great, along with an inspired cameo for John McCrea as young Loco. Apparently Layton Williams is in it as well but I didn't spot him. Overall a big success for me.

I saw this in MK last night (thanks to a £13 ATG Club bargain), and really loved it.
As others have said, the creative have really thought about how to make a piece of theatre. This isn't just the film plonked on stage. Scenes are staged cleverly and dynamically, the puppetry is brilliantly done and the whole thing has a wonderful old-school feel to it, reminiscent of Mary Poppins and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. The effects are mostly brilliant (a couple do still need to be slicker), and the new songs blend well with the original material. Dianne Pilkington is great, as are the kids.
Initially I was thrown by the ending, but as I drove home thinking about it, it did make sense and I think it works.
If the show doesn't get a decent sit-down London run after the tour it will be a real shame, it completely deserves it. It's a magical show that will make children fall in love with theatre.

Presumably someone's hoping if this concert does well, they can have a staged revival in town somewhere later next year. Fingers crossed. I think I'll hold out for that possibility, unless there are deals nearer the time. It's a bit pricey for a concert (although know it's for charity).

It's a very 'Marilyn Monroe' look, but I'm sure she'll be great.

They've had a couple of years to rethink and rework, maybe they'll have fixed the previous issues. Sam does 'glamorous evil' really well, so that's a good start 😁

More footage on Sophie's Instagram. Looks like it was mic trouble that caused the opening line to be missed.

Ooh that’s harsh! He’s broken many stories on here before anyone else got there. We’re all sharing info across different platforms and sometimes the rumour will be wrong, other times it will be right. It’s all part of the fun. Oh I must’ve missed the ones that came true. Look back through his site - most of the Rumours have come true (some were obviously scuppered by Covid).

SJB has played it before so wouldn't need as much rehearsal, and she was due to play a concert at Cadogan Hall before Covid struck, so I guess it's possible...it seems unlikely just for 4 weeks though. It would get the MT fans booking (or rebooking!)

To be fair, Sophie never was a particularly strong or funny Glinda... I've seen Wicked 10 times since 2006 but I think it'll have to be a very exciting cast to lure me back again. I'm glad it's got to 15 years though and it's the first show I ever saw in the West End so it'll always be special.

Perhaps a few people got Covid from Roger (or he got it from them) and too many people would be out and there aren't enough covers? Whoahhh - let’s not start speculating how or what the illness is that caused the show to be cancelled eh! It's not speculation, Roger Bart tested positive for Covid on Monday.

I volunteered for it a few weeks back in Northampton (end of July, I think). It was good, Stephen Tomkinson and Jessica Johnson both very watchable. Also no interval which makes the piece feel much sharper and prevents it from dragging. Worth a watch.

TheatreCafe have posted the opening 2 minutes on their Instagram if anyone wants to watch. I'm all for enthusiasm but it does seem overkill. And such a shame to not hear the 'It's good to see me, isn't it' line.

She posted a pic of Tilda Swinton on her Instagram a few weeks back with some vague captions, I think she may have been snapped up as the White Witch in that upcoming tour.

Broadway imports quite often give the female lead in London to an American to start with! Idina, Adrienne Warren, Katherine McPhee, Amber Riley.... British actresses then tend to get their shot a few months in!

£150 for an unknown and untested musical no-one's heard of?! Pricing really has gone mad. Definitely hold off, there will be deals everywhere for this nearer the time.

The music is great and it used to be a fun show in London but the last tour felt very cheap and highlighted its weaknesses. It's a entertaining night out for a bargain but I wouldn't pay a lot to see it.

I agree, I think it works better when Eliza reads as 25-30 really. It also needs to be someone who can sing the soprano parts, which I don't think Cassidy would be able to do. What's Danielle Hope up to? She's always had a great likeability and her voice is gorgeous.

Exactly. I love Aaron Tveit but he was always too old for it. 37 is too old for naive and idealistic. At 37 he could be divorced and saddled with grumpy teenage children! 🤣 Ouch... Thanks for that...! I didn't mean any offence! I just meant that someone who looks 37 will look like they have a lot of world experience, which Christian isn't supposed to have 😀
