I think you also have to take the edge off the Doctor, otherwise she's a bit of a one-dimensional, close-minded old dinosaur.

In a play full of characters either asserting or denying identities, there was something moving in the husband wandering through the play with no grip on who or what he was.

Really good play - loved most of it. I thought dementia was there to hammer home the theme of not accepting at face value what we (think we) have seen. Found the young girl character was the weak point both plot and performance wise. Same, didn't particularly see the point of the young girl character, or maybe I just missed it somehow.

I thought the girl (from the neighbourhood, attending a 'local school') felt safe with the Doctor, that the Doc's home had become a non-judgemental sanctuary away from the harsh world of a trans teenager.
We then see the Doc under pressure to explain herself in front of the TV cameras. Eventually, in an attempt to save her career, status and reputation, the erstwhile middle-class, entitled, morally upright professional is revealed in full as she throws the working-class child who so trusted her under the proverbial i.e. plus ca change ..

* to add. The class dimension is not mine. I think you read that from Sami's (the teen) vernacular, accent, and - albeit limited - references. That applies both with Ria Zmitrowicz at The Almeida and Matilda Tucker now.
Fwiw, I haven't seen Robert Icke talk directly about class. He's from the Middlesborough area which may/not suggest an orientation, though I do wish now I'd seen his Animal Farm.

FYI for those who booked Row A at the Duke of York’s, the stage is very high. I’m 5ft11 and struggled to see stuff at the back of the stage. While still reasonable value at £15, I’m surprised there isn’t a warning when booking as if you’re less than 5ft6 you’ll struggle to see anything. Sat in the front row a few days ago and although I could see the actors did feel that it ruined the experience and was by far one of worst seats I have ever experienced and I'm including being sat behind a pillar at the Wanamaker! The stage was way higher than I expected I spoke to the the box office who said there is a warning and I could pay for an upgrade. But really charging people £15 for such a bad seat takes some cheek.
