Just booked tickets to see this in a few weeks. Was put in charge of buying theatre tickets for our group and finally plumped for this owing to the good word of mouth and Tony noms. I’ve since found out that the rest of the group have never seen the film. Is it easy to understand without prior knowledge of the film?

I’ve since found out that the rest of the group have never seen the film. Is it easy to understand without prior knowledge of the film? I saw it with two friends — one had never seen the film and one had seen it many times. The first friend said she only got confused when people knowingly laughed at quotes from the movie, but then she realized they were laughing or cheering for the familiarity of it. Listening to the cast recording...
Not the best score. I think it probably works on stage, but as a cast recording, the music is pretty samey and just not that tuneful. Tina's husband isn't one that chugs out great tunes. The beginning of "A Cautionary Tale"reminds me of the Prelude of Next to Normal followed by "Just a Perfect Day".
I do enjoy "Apex Predator" and "I See Stars" (the latter for some reason reminds me of the way No Day But Today is done in the Rent film).

I too listened to the CR today and was a little underwhelmed, unfortunately. I so wanted to like it as I think the movie is very well written and "gets" it. You can tell its the same composer for 30 Rock; lots of similar orchestrations. I really liked Karen's song, Sexy, and Meet the Plastics (for the most part), I felt like they had the right tone for the show and understood it the most. Perhaps its a score that needs to be seen rather than heard, but it felt a little too pop-punk for me and disconnected. I would happily go and see it to be proven wrong about it being lackluster!

Listened to the OBC recording last night at work. Obsessed with Revenge Party. Found myself singing "Regina Regina, she has everything, she gets everything, Regina Regina Regina!" out loud like a crazy person.

This seems a bit too early in the process for people to get over-excited...

Lindsay Lohan messed up on Watch What Happens Live and said she was seeing the show finally this Saturday matinee, so I can imagine the fangirls will be out in full force!

The Mean Girls Broadway Cast Recording is on Spotify now. Kate Rockwell is hit HARD with autotune on the song "Sexy." She sounds like a robot throughout the song. Blegh.

Saw this on my most recent New York trip and, for me, it just wasn't quite good enough. The songs weren't strong enough, and the book wasn't funny enough. I walked out of the theatre humming "Somewhere in the Middle of Nowhere" from Come From Away (which is what "I See Stars" reminded me of...)
The performances were OK, but not amazing. (I couldn't understand most of what the girl playing Regina was singing as her diction wasn't great.) I can't see it doing well in London, unless it has a huge star in it.

What kind of BS shows have you been seeing if Mean Girls is the best show you've seen?
