Well it looks like this has got mixed reviews post opening night, but is doing great at the box office. When asked if she'd like to produce the show on the West End Sonia Friedman was quoted at the Oliviers saying "Yeah, we'd love to... certainly, if I'm involved, it's going to happen, isn't it?". I can't wait!

I did wonder this, once I knew her name was attached. Keeping everything crossed for it.

I had no idea she was involved in this. So yea, if she is, it'll transfer to London. with Jon, once DREAMgirls is out, MEANgirls could replace it.

As long as Girl From The North Country doesn’t go in I shan’t complain... I can see Meangirls doing well at the Savoy with lots of advertising around town to catch the tourist eye.

I imagine Dreamgirls will be gone sometime by the end of this year, early next. Would be nice to see pink take over the Savoy after almost a decade since Legally Blonde opened!

Dreamgirls feels like Kinky Boots' sister and seems to attract a similar crowd. I really would like to see both of them gone by 2019 and replaced by something new. Having said that, I don't know if MG has the same marketability in London as it does in the US? I also don't know how risky it is for two high school musicals (set in the US) to open in the West End in 2019 (assuming Dear Evan Hansen opens next year).

I’m pretty sure Mean Girls will be very successful here too, it’s very much a part of teen culture. I think about 9 out of 10 kids in my agegroup (16-20) would have seen the film and will quote some of the memorable bits too. I personally can’t wait for it to arrive *crossing everything*

Well ‘Legally Blonde’ was far more successful here than Broadway!

I personally can’t wait for it to arrive *crossing everything* I would even extend that to those in an older age bracket, too. Many in the late twenties/early thirties crowd (of which I am included) are very familiar with the material, too, and hold it dear to their heart. Here's the "First Look" trailer, and I have to say, whilst I'm liking the overall look to the show, the music chosen here is a bit of a damp squib. For a plot as bubbly and campy as Mean Girls, I'd hoped for more of a catchy sound personally, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the rest of the score.

The score is not a high point, and what they chose for the trailer is a little puzzling, given that it's hard to understand what's even being sung.
When I saw it, I felt like the score worked for the period I had my butt in that seat, but I never gave 98% of it another thought; the remaining 2% was stuck in my head because it reminded me of something else.

Mean Girls is the 90's kids go-to, even here in the UK. I actually think this would be a guaranteed, Legally Blonde style hit. Don't wanna speak too soon, but I can see that type of hit.

Looking forward to seeing this in a few weeks in NYC! I think if done well, it could have a good run both sides of the pond.

First track from the cast recording is now available. Here's Barrett Wilbert Weed (quite a mouthful) singing it:

Very shouty. She does sound (during the more 'talky' bits) very like Janice in the film, which I suppose is good, but so much yelling. Maybe it works better in context!

I'm listening to Kate Rockwell's debut album. I have to say I am very impressed. I don't love her voice, but the production elements are pretty amazing. Most musical theatre singers hardly do theatre-only songs anymore, and almost insist on branching out to sing either original material, jazz standards, cover. This young lady sticks to theatre geekery through and through. The orchestrations are also incredible. You have a full back up orchestra on each track instead of a stripped down combo. Listening to each track separately, you'd think it's a song from a full cast recording.
The last album I recall with musical theatre-only songs and a comprehensive band was Christine Andreas's album and that was ages ago.I wish all musical theatre artists go full on like she does in the future.

The last of the Tony eligability rulings have been announced. I know there has been questions over Taylor Louderman's placing. She will be considered in the Leading Actress catagory.
