I believe it's the Queen Consort who is the bigger Strictly fan of the two...though I don't imagine she "demanded" either. It was kind of BurlyBeaR to lend her his new cape! 🤣

Nice to see she gets to invite her faves to official banquets. Motsi is a German citizen isn’t she? Hope she had a great time.

I find it hard to take in the fact that for the vast majority of us this will be our first coronation and for some, our one and only.

Yes, she is living in Germany since she is 18…. is a German citizen…and part of the dance show jury „Let‘s dance“ since 2011. According to a yesterday article she used the moment and asked Charles if it was possible to have one episode of SCD in Buckingham Palace.

Seemed like the late Queen was around long before I was born, and I doubt I'll be around (or be very old) when William ascends if Charles lives as long as his mum or gran. I am looking forward to hearing the music and seeing the spectacle.

Quite a lot of background noise from republicans who want an elected head of state. They haven’t really thought it through because it would be either Jeremy Corbyn or Boris Johnson and each of those would be unacceptable to 50% of voters. Are there any countries where the head of state is elected by popular vote ? Apart from USA obviously which isn’t a positive example. France I suppose. Just to revive this point - Ireland elects their President: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/President_of_IrelandThe current one is a poet (amongst other things), and seems to be very popular. His role is mostly ceremonial, with, as far as I can gather, some Checks And Balances built into the constitution. (Nothing against you Jan, this is a wider thing I've noticed) It has been quite annoying that throughout this 'but *who* other than the US elects their leader?' discourse, that Ireland, which is Just Over There, has been routinely ignored.

Sorry to be a pedant here, but the President of Ireland is a figurehead rather than 'leader' but, that said, the election of figureheads can still cause division in a country and that's possibly the last thing we need in the UK! At least the succession of a Monarch via hereditary means eliminates most debate. On a slight tangent, there is possibility that Irish passport holders across the Globe, which I am lucky to be, will have the right to vote for the Irish President after the next election.

Unfortunately The Sunday Times reporting is behind a firewall, so I can't show you how their investigation into The illegal selling of a knighthood for cash has "been stalled" since Charles got the top job. Their formal requests under the Freedom of Information act for disclosure have been illegally ignored. His two closest aides have resigned over this, saying he knew nothing. Apparently this is the first case in all of history where the fish rots from just below the head. You can get a few pointers here. www.cumnockchronicle.com/news/23144939.princes-foundation-metropolitan-police-investigation/

I understand it's usually the politicians receiving the cash, but this is hardly a new phenomenon?

It was made illegal in 1925. That's why the Met were once interested....

Two week notice to get your orders in for coronation decorations and souvenirs. Much bigger range available than there was for the late Queen jubilee last year and it's being snapped up fast.
Looks like John Lewis range sold out online before they could get it in the shops and the other online stores seem to be selling out of a lot of the ranges already.
eBay is proving a good place to get flags and bunting or seeing the rocketing resale values of the John Lewis royal teddy bear or the official limited edition plate both around triple the original prices.
After years of seeing black and white clips of the 1953 event it should be great seeing the tradition and splendor of the ceremony, just hoping they haven't modernized it too much.
Also good that on the day will get several hours of viewing entertainment shared with family and friends and even spending money on decorations and food it will cost less than a single top price range west end theatre seat.

It's ironic, is it not, that in order to become King- something that he's waited for all his life- his mother had to die and she's not here to witness it.

Not sure where to ask this question but how hard will it be to travel around London to see a West End show on the night of Saturday 6 May - Coronation Day. I’m staying near the Palace.
Will crowds clear out after the balcony appearance? Or will it be hard to maneuver the city that evening? How was it after jubilee or the weddings?

I think you will be fine and crowds will have died down and I would imagine closed roads will have reopened.

I think you will be fine and crowds will have died down and I would imagine closed roads will have reopened. I've twice unintentionally found myself near the palace during state visits, originally intending to walk in the park and not being knowledgeable about royal schedules outside of the big days like this or weddings. Once the carriages are in the palace gates on the return from Horse Guard's, people start drifting away. I think because of a balcony appearance or two, the crowds will linger longer, but if you avoid the immediate vicinity of the procession, I would think you'd be fine. I was able to walk past the palace, go around the corner and easily board the Underground at the St James Park stop, as well as Victoria Station the other time, once the Queen and Prince of Wales had passed.

Hard to argue with any of the points made in that article by the Privy Councillor. The whole concept of inherited power and privilege is abhorrent to me. But it will be ever thus while those with such birthrights fight tooth and nail to not just hold them but to expand their wealth and influence.

I thought the choice for Head of State had been imposed without any fair selection process. Delighted to hear that's no longer the case. (If only.)
