The Favourite was on last night, now streaming on the Film4 player. Saucy. Olivia Colman in a memorable turn.
Rachael Weisz's voice kept transporting me to The Lobster. She replaced Kate Winslet in this, always wondered what KW gave this up for - that Steve Jobs film?

Anyone watching The Secret Genius of Modern Life on BBC2?
Facinating series about every day technology.
Last night's episode on Amazon Alexa was especially interesting as every time they mentioned Alexa on the TV (which was frequent), mine sprang into life and it ended up answering the TV.

Sky Arts tonight - on Freeview and reputable ariels off eBay.
A reminder for the Philistines and other clueless heathens of the parish; tonight at 7pm Landscape Artist of the Year, err, 2018 (the Broadstairs epi).
AND THEN, at 8pm, this year's winner (2022, even) of PORTRAIT Artist of the Year paints a sizeable commission for someone wots well-known. This year it's Lenny Henry, which doesn't overwhelm me given he's been on a downward spiral since Tiswas circa 1982.
After that, it's Spike Milligan, on the same channel!

Scanning the TV guide to find something to watch tonight I came across a new ITV series starting tonight (Friday) called Hotel Portofino. No idea what it's like but Mark Umbers is listed as one of the stars.
He is a MT actor who I personally don't think gets used nearly enough. He was brilliant in She Loves Me, Sweet Charity and Merrily at the Menier.

It's an attempt to find a new Downton but doesn't quite work Lovely costumes and setting but the plotting isn't terribly convincing. Quite entertaining but don't expect to be wowed |

I've just finished Lockwood and Co on Netflix, adapted by Adam and Joe's Joe Cornish from the novels, and really enjoyed it. It's a sort of teen Sherlock with ghost hunters, spooky but not gratuitously nasty in the way that some shows are, some 80s goth classics on the soundtrack, engaging young cast and good-looking London locations including the Barbican.

BBC4 have just started repeating Edge of Darkness, with episodes on iplayer for a month.
I've given up on The Last of Us. I just don't care about the characters and don't find them believable. When a series has such a bleak view of the human race, two thinly drawn characters on a vague mission to save it loses its power.

I'm late to this but just finished the first series of Lucy Prebble and Billie Piper's I Hate Susie (Now TV & Sky) and really enjoyed it. It makes an interesting companion piece to Lucy Kirkwood's rather under the radar Ch4 series Adult Material too, I think.

The last ever series of Endeavour starts tonight on ITV1 with the brilliant Shaun Evans and Roger Allam. I love this series better than Morse and am sorry it’s finishing but better to go out on top before it gets too stale. I’m always on the lookout for their clues to the original John Thaw as Morse which is always a lovely touch. It’s a pity there are only 3 episodes but I will relish every one.

The Linda Ronstadt documentary Still Within the Sound of My Voice got a big response on Twitter last night after being shown on BBC2. It should be on iPlayer for the next month. Her career in the UK didn't hit the heights that she experienced in the USA but it's a remarkable story and her vocal versatility is amazing.

I’m always on the lookout for their clues to the original John Thaw as Morse which is always a lovely touch. I love it, especially with Thaw's daughter playing the editor of the newspaper: 'haven't we met before?' and all the little pop cultural nods peppered in there too. The screenwriter was, much earlier in life, the child in the imaginary tiger friend segment of the early 70s horror film Tales that Witness Madness, and the tiger Endeavour episode may be a nod to that! |

Another fan of Endeavour over here! It’s one of my favourite shows so I’m looking forward to seeing it (but not it ending). All of the actors fit so well in their parts and together as a team. I love little moments like the Dr always saying, “Shall we say 2 o clock?” Will be interesting to see how they wrap it all up.

Stephen Fry's documentary about Willem Arondeus and Frieda Belinfante, Dutch artists, musicians and Resistance fighters on C4 is well worth a look. Almost forgotten because they were homosexual, they were fascinating characters who lived by their own rules at a time when that was almost impossible. It would make a great drama.

Not tonight but last night - the final episode of Endeavour was just brilliant. Every character that we’ve known and loved over the years had their own little moments. I laughed and cried multiple times, all of the creative team deserve so much credit for making such a high quality drama. It will be missed.

Something to look forward to if you liked Peaky Blinders and Taboo: a new 12 part Victorian-set series 'A Thousand Blows' with Stephen Graham and Erin Doherty has started filming. Might this mean Doherty won't be in The Crucible transfer?
