Running at New York City Center May 4-15 with a stellar cast that includes Sara Bareilles (Baker's Wife), Christian Borle (Baker), Heather Headley (Witch), and Ashley Park (Cinderella).

Single tickets on sale to non-members of Friends of City Center on October 18.
Not to be pedantic, but it’s “Encores!” (with an “s”), not “Encore!”

Saw the transfer on Sat Eve. All about the performances, characters, music and lyrics in this very unflashy production. Everything was played perfectly. Was magical - can’t wait for a cast recording. A shame this is such a limited transfer - the audience lapped it up.

Thank god this is getting a cast recording. Was lucky enough to be able to catch this a few weeks ago in previews and the cast really is stunning!

Odd that this is getting a cast recording but Company hasn't ( as far as we know). Hopefully they'll film both before they close.

Also looks like this will be extending through January and Piano Lesson moving to another venue

It's a silly little cape; and a cape is what you make it- so you take it! Things aren't always what you need them for. What's important is who needs them more!

Company had a new cast recording release with the London production (prior to it moving to Broadway) in 2019, whereas the last stage-cast recording for Into the Woods was 2002.

Company not getting a cast recording has to do with the rights to this new version that are preventing it from getting done.
Here’s a video with some info on it

But also, whilst it'd be nice to have a recording of Katrina, we do HAVE a cast recording of this production from London, and it's not always the case that when a London show goes to Broadway, or a Broadway to London, that we get a cast recording

Extended for eight weeks into October with some suggesting it will go beyond that if sales remain as strong as they have. Really just an excellent production all around with huge opportunities to rotate prime Broadway stars in plum roles for short runs.

I say this fairly certain the extension is just for this current cast and in a few weeks a much longer extension will be announced with new cast. The show is making an insane amount of money, the producers paid to have the show that was going to move into the theater move somewhere else and there’s zero evidence this won’t play for years.

Years might be a bit too hopeful to assert so definitively, but another extension with additional cast changes certainly seem likely. Given that the show could rotate in popular names in juicy roles for limited runs, perhaps this will be a Sondheim show that does indeed last for an extended time on Broadway.

Yes but it’s still making over a million dollars a week.

It might run a few months longer into 2023, but several years? Very unlikely. Bareilles returning could help increase the odds though.

Yes but it’s still making over a million dollars a week. I guess we shall see the trajectory but based on current advance I think Into the Woods has about 1-2 decent weeks left before it struggles for the next few months. Would not be surprised if it closes earlier than the full extension (I know this sounds extreme). I think the producers have underestimated the star power of Sara.

A return visit this afternoon. I though Montego was great. Her Last Midnight was stunning. Absolutely loved Stephanie as Bakers Wife - especially Moments in the Woods.
A fantastic production not to be missed. I must say I am very much looking forward to seeing the transfer from Bath to compare it.

Agony has popped up now ahead of Friday's release. Vocally incredible, especially Joshua Henry, but it feels like the satire and comedy has been wrung out completely. Maybe it'll work in the context of the full recording, but I wonder if its a problem of recording cast in isolation, the interaction is lost and a tiny aspect of the meaning lost with it.

I think on the whole this is a very strong album and this could easily be the finest cast recording of the show. The orchestra and sound design are impeccable, I'd swear there are words and lyrics I never even heard before listening to this, especially in the choral moments.
There are some fantastic supporting performances from Annie Golden, David Patrick Kelly, Julia Lester and Cole Thompson, whose "Giants in the Sky" is probably the highlight of the whole album. Patina Miller is humourless and vocally weird: I like her Stay With Me but her Last Midnight was a bit odd. Mind you, it's a song that works only on stage, but the last note was still weak and odd, it's unclear whether she was dying, disappearing or simply having a breakdown. Sara Bareilles sings beautifully and my only quibble is that at times her acting is a bit too Saturday Night Live style. Gavin is great as the Prince but a bit bland as the Wolf. The transition between the two halves of "Any Moment" is slightly awkward and some of the tempi are surprisingly fast.
Still, despite some quibbles, I really enjoyed this, and the first act in particular is pretty much perfect.

Interesting you say some of the tempi are fast because to me parts felt slow. The Prologue for example, here, like you I felt I was picking up previously unheard words/details, but the only perceivable reason for this was it felt a good notch slower than I'm used to. Like they had to slow it down so the locals could get everything that was happening.

I listened all the way through today. It's disappointing. It feels flat to me.
I know they have some known names on this recording, but i'm not sure why they recorded it at all.

Oh I thought it was a gorgeous recording! The original recording sounds like it was done in a tunnel. I was lucky enough to see this cast on Broadway back in July and I’m so glad that they’ve done this recording.
