It’s very easy to trash EVERYthing the government has done isn’t it. but what about the support package? Paying 80% of furloughed employees wages for example? Payments to the self employed? I know this doesn’t catch everyone who is in hardship but nothing ever would.

Trailing a long way behind is a kind of following.

Agree the Treasury have been the most successful Department, the decision this time to support the individual rather than the financial institutions is the right one.
The only worry how many now in furlough are in zombie jobs and what happens next as unemployment inevitably rises.

I know this doesn’t catch everyone who is in hardship but nothing ever would. I agree. I’m not sure there’s a perfect response to a pandemic, but telling the UK to stay at home and have the government pay 80% of your wage is something I never thought we’d see happen. It is very easy and very British to point the finger at the government and politicians and tell them what they’ve done wrong. Why anyone would want to be an MP or Prime Minister is beyond me - it never ends well.

Shocker, but I don’t think the government have quite got the public opinion right on this one. These are Cummings’ neighbours on his return, tonight.
Seen a Boo for Boris being planned on twitter for a day next week at 8pm (not Thursday). Some on here will no doubt say that’s too far. I think that’s just about right.

They did what they HAD to do to stop chaos with the general public financially, but beyond that the fact remains and always will remain that they mishandled the situation terribly. I'm not one for holding grudges, they did the best they could under an unprecedented situation. But the fact they all got it in the first round of the disease proves that they didn't take it seriously early enough which has left us where we are today. That they are now letting things like this pass is only magnifying their incompetence and the fact that they don't give a sh*t about the public.

Woa. Be careful. People who's brains work differently do not have faulty brains. I have no love for Cummings but my son and wife are both on the autistic spectrum and I resent the word faulty a great deal. I wanted to report your post as offensive but thought I should give you the right of reply first.
There is a lot of ignorance.
From what i've seen I'm pretty convinced neurodiversity may well be responsible for everything from discovering fire to walking out of Africa - the human species hasn't progressed by people pussy-footing around in polite hierarchies. It has needed 'difference' in thinking and difference in behaviours. I tend to think Issac Newton seems a classic example, but we will never know.
Without it, I suspect we'd all be sitting around in mud huts in the Rift Valley scratching our arses.
Neurodoversity has nothing to do with psychopathy, we are talking about 2 completely different things.

Neurodoversity has nothing to do with psychopathy, we are talking about 2 completely different things. I did ask for peace and a truce. However Your original reply was to londonpostie who WAS talking about neurodiversity. You chose to use his post to attack, in my opinion, a neurodiverse person (who I happen to dislike a great deal but that is irrelevant). I believe that you didn’t mean to, but the effect was to imply that neurodiverse people are broken. It is that comment I pulled you up on.

Daily Mail front page:
For the good of the Government and the nation, Mr Cummings must resign. Or the Prime Minister must sack him. No ifs no buts
The New Statesman also has a quote from his parents stating the visit coincided with the death of his uncle and that the fact they were all mourning has not been taken into account.
Not sure this is helpful and will endear him to the mourning families who had to grieve from a distance.

I shouldn't have quoted his post as clearly we are talking about 2 completely different things. I don't however believe that Cummings is neurodiverse so we will just have to agree to disagree on that one. But no drama and sorry for the confusion. x

We agree that Cummings is a not-a-nice-person. I look forward to future discussions about theatre when we can get back there.

I don't recall neighbours calling out someone on the political stage before. As someone on Twitter said, you can hear the hurt in some of those voices. His neighbours voices.
If I was him, I'd worry for his windows tonight. And his car. Perhaps the police will have someone outside for a few days.

I’m not a Tory supporter by any means, but I don’t think they’ve done a bad job at handling Covid-19. They have very clearly made it up as they’ve gone along (but who hasn’t) and whilst I agree they could have taken certain steps sooner, I’d argue most people underestimated exactly what it was we were facing: when China built hospitals in less than a week and locked down cities, did any of us truly imagine we would end up doing the same? This whole aide thing though... okay so the guy apparently broke lockdown. Naughty naughty, slap him on the wrist, put him on a final warning and make him issue an apology. I dislike mob mentality and don’t agree with him being accosted on the street, and I never understand the public expecting anyone involved with politics to be 100% perfect... and if not demand their resignation immediately. But how Boris has handed it is a different story altogether.

I mean one of the main reasons this has got people angry is that others have obeyed the rules and not been able to see dying relatives or comfort those still alive. Giving that as an excuse just makes the whole the rules don't apply to him point even clearer.

When the Daily Mail attack the Tories, you know change is in the air.
The thing that interests me is that with tonight's briefing, Johnson destroyed the credibility of any future broadcasts or messages from the Government. Nothing they say can be trusted. If there is a second wave, how on Earth will a second lockdown be enforced? There is no amount of damage limitation in the world that can bring the Tories out the other side of this looking good.

Perhaps the police will have someone outside for a few days. I sincerely hope not - he doesn't deserve a penny of my taxes. He has made his bed and got his crony to get in it as well, now he needs to deal with the consequences of that himself. The video of his neighbours is extraordinary but I think very reflective of how most people will be feeling right now.

It's not 'personality type' it's physical differences in the brain, as IDd with MRI. What are you talking about here? Neurodiversity usually refers to autism spectrum conditions, which are not diagnosable by MRI.

You know.what will happen. He will eventually get sacked or resign and then Boris will reemploy him cash in hand and they will do all their business via Zoom and the public will never know.

I'm surprised he hasn't gone yet. Usually when someone creates a media problem for the Prime Minister of the day then they're out, regardless of who it was who did wrong. The point isn't to judge and convict someone for a crime; it's to end the crisis so the government can get back to doing its job of running the country instead of putting all its effort into PR. The fact that he's being kept around makes me wonder how many of Johnson's decisions are actually Johnson's decisions.
No matter what the particular circumstances surrounding Cummings's actions, part of the job of anyone high up in government is to lead by example. I wouldn't be surprised if the example he sets is to become a derogatory word in slang.

If the advisor is too important to be sacked then maybe it’s the PM that has to go #sackboris

In fact the more i think in my sleep deprived state that Boris will have to go. If there is a second lockdown needed in the future he now has no moral authority anymore. We will need someone else in place that at least we can have an illusion of trusting

We will need someone else in place that at least we can have an illusion of trusting That is one of the most extraordinary things. The longer Cummings stays, the more it seems Boris will have to go too. Now I'm admit I'm not so familiar with politics that I'd know what would happen if Boris resigned.
