Weird choice to show the prince charming spoiler - trying to emphasise how 'edgy and modern' it is?

Now, I absolutely don't care about the show whatsoever - I think it's dire - but, apparently the bird bit was in during the previews last summer, then it got cut, and they decided to put it back in the show. Just proves how clueless and indecisive the creatives are. Out of all the changes they could make, they chose this + a graffiti penis on the statue... No words. I'll be absolutely shocked if this turns out to be a hit on Broadway... Let’s remember that it’s been ‘blocked’ rather than directed. “We’ll fill that bit in later.” I've DSM'd with some directors like this. They block then add say things like "then we'll add some business here in later" - and forget. There was one who constantly said "and we'll cheat this over to here". He got a lot of blank stares from very experienced actors, as he was misusing directing slang almost comically. I should add these are professional, often A level productions

It wasn’t it in when I saw it either Now, I absolutely don't care about the show whatsoever - I think it's dire - but, apparently the bird bit was in during the previews last summer, then it got cut, and they decided to put it back in the show. I'll be absolutely shocked if this turns out to be a hit on Broadway... It definitely wasn't there in the first preview. I remember, because it stood out for me when I heard it on the CD later. That tiny section sums up for me the main reason why I dislike this show (orchestrations aside). It trashes anything that could be seen as beautiful for a cheap laugh. The show has a nasty cheapness about it, and a sour heart, like a sniggering schoolboy. It has absolutely no soul, depth or grace.

Just got an email from LW Theatres to say this is now booking through February 2023, surprising considering the ticket sales recently. Although I’m sure someone on here who was in the know a bit about the mechanics of west end theatre said that productions that are in trouble will sometimes try a long extension to try to get some much needed advance sales as a last-ditch effort to stay open so who knows…

It creates the illusion that the show is doing well and thus people sometimes book because they think it's a big hit and theyre missing out. So many shows have extended and then cancelled their extension period in recent years - don't read much into it!

I was a bit hesitant to post my review from last night amongst so much negativity on this thread, but I'll go anyway for some balance. I saw yesterday with Lauren Byrne as Cinderella (otherwise full cast). Lauren is wonderful and for me a far better actress than Carrie. Everyone gave strong performances (and new ensemble member Ike Fallon is a really fantastic dancer), with Georgina Castle & Gio Spanno doing their very best to steal the show - the audience seemed to particularly love them. I really enjoyed the new bows... as others have said there aren't many changes despite ALW's bluster, but I caught a few line and lyrics changes throughout (weirdly mostly at the beginning though) and am sure there were some cut bits I couldnt quite put my finger on, as well as the previously mentioned graffiti/bird thing. ALW's pre-show announcement is a bit odd. Stalls seemed pretty full to me, and I got a good look at the circle as we whooshed around and the centre part was fairly full but the side bits had a good few empty seats. Some bad behaviour in the audience but was very receptive and everyone I eavesdropped on (as I always do) was loving the show which again makes me wonder what the disconnect is between the comments on this thread and the audiences I've been around. Shrug. In conclusion, I'm not blind to the show's faults at all, I wish they'd fix the obvious things rather than fiddle pointlessly with line rewrites (but they won't), ALW has annoyed me hugely and I wish he'd just shush (and CHF for that matter), but despite that stuff I really do enjoy it. I like the music, the cast is wonderful, there's plenty to smile at, and it's always an enjoyable evening for me. I know it's not popular on here to like it but... the heart likes what it likes (or something like that).

You’re quite right. I have a friend that loves it. I enjoyed it for what it was, (and think I will sit through it again) but can’t help thinking off all of the things that could elevate it further. Which is what I assumed he’d be doing during the hiatus.

So I see the production company are just picking who will play Cinderella on what day at random again. What’s the point of a stunt cast lead if you book and find they’re not on the day you expect even after her scheduled days off/holiday are published. Means nothing if they keep switching it up on a regular basis?

Is Carrie stunt casting though? She has a bona fide MT career. It’s not like Matt Lucas going into Les Mis as Thenardier. I mean I see her flaws but saying she’s stunt casting is a bit of a stretch?

Hmm I think I'd still call her stunt casting. I struggle to believe without her social media career she'd have got the roles she has, in a standard audition process. She's competent but she's not a stand out performer.

Probably my bad choice of words. I guess Actress on the billboards. Advertised star. Person employed to spread the word via her social media and vlogs Not on. Again. Schedule switched at random. Again. They made such a big thing of advertising her dates then changing them again. If anyone wants the definitive Cinders... I’ll be on a week Tuesday 😉

(Also, WHY is Carrie still having a go at people on twitter asking innocent questions perfectly nicely about the schedule change. Seriously.)

(Said in the darkest tone of absolute sarcasm…just for those occasional users) Because she doesn’t write the schedule and probably feels hounded by people asking her…about the schedule she doesn’t even write though…stop asking her about things shes getting the blame for that weren’t her fault.

Makes you wonder who is in charge of it though. The schedule (such as it is) has seen more changes than the ones in the revised script ‘the public deserve’

I do know what you mean, she's probably sick of getting hassle for it and so a bit on the defensive... the fan in question wasn't asking her directly though, or blaming her, more expressing surprise/interest while also calling Lauren amazing.

Leading actors most certainly play a part in the planning of their schedules and arranged absences.

In terms of today’s absence it’s because they wanted Carrie to do Monday’s show for Valentine’s Day which is usually her night off so she has tonight off instead. I agree it’s annoying when the schedule keeps changing but it definitely seems to be out of Carrie’s hands most of the time.

Transparency is the key to all this.
If you explain the situation, people can understand. If you don't, people will speculate and/or complain.

We can joke about this, but when did we get like this? Wasn’t it easier when we didn’t question things? When we just trusted that the people doing stuff knew what they were doing and weren’t screwing us, the customer, over? When if we weren’t happy about something we just grumbled inwardly for weeks after, maybe went on about it to our friends but never actually took it to those accountable for a bit of closure? Halcyon days.

Ever since written mass communication was a thing, people have been writing to express their displeasure.
Whether it was a pamphlet distributed in coffee houses or letters to the editor of a newspaper, the disgruntled have found an outlet for their voices.
If you are on an Internet forum in 2022, you should be in no way surprised that people are venting.
