Martin Guerre is a masterpiece compared to Cinderella. Viva Forever! is a masterpiece compared to Cinderella.

The leading lady is off sick again. Off ill one day, posts an event where she sings for the Diana trust the next, then off again ill the following? In what other job would you get away with this with your employer ? And why would you post the Diana gig knowing that people are going to be upset that you’re ‘not well’ enough to perform for your day to day job (and yes some of them have paid to see you - not the understudy - yes that old chestnut again) but seemingly ok to perform a prestigious gig in between? Baffling

Doing a concert is very different to a full show. Oh, please. She got all glammed up, spent the entire evening out, posted tons of photos, she was FINE to go and do that. Here's a thought, maybe in a pandemic she should stay home when feeling ill? Her work ethic is atrocious.

Genuinely don't know the answer to this - was her attendance/professionalism better in previous jobs? I caught her understudy once in Les Mis and saw her the second time. She might be having personal issues we don't know about, which maybe explain her conduct?

When did this forum turn into tattle?

Yeah attending the concert when ill during a pandemic is less than great. If she's not well she has a right to be off but then she shouldn't have been at the Diana thing either. Or at the very least keep quiet about it on social media maybe?
I'm not sure about other shows except I think I read she performed through tonsillitis in Heathers. Which seems like a terrible idea to me but I'm not a performer so I don't know, maybe that's fine? Perhaps that's influenced her the other way now though...

When did this forum turn into tattle? I think when people pay what they pay to see shows and certain performers, it's worth noting when that performer has a terrible work ethic that greatly affects their attendance. If she can't handle the heat, she is welcome to leave the kitchen.

Yeah, I mean, if she just had a bug and missed a few shows, I'd have less to say. But she had no problem getting dressed to the nines to schmooze with the elite and then sing for them. To be "sick" again the very next day really takes some cojones.

If one of my colleagues was in and out with illness I wouldn’t jump to accusing them of a bad work ethic. Particularly when I don’t know anything about what’s going on with them personally, how ill they are, or what other forces are at play.

And wow betide anyone who takes to Twitter to say they’re disappointed she’s not on. Illness is unavoidable of course and people need to rest when ill, but you can see why theatre goers would get confused though and upset. Posting a prestigious gig on social media between being too ill to perform in your day job is almost like rubbing their noses in it, waiting for them to react and then soaking up the negative attention. It seems self destructive almost. The influencer side doesn’t seem to be able to live without posting everything even if it means her professional reputation suffers. It’s a shame. This was meant to be her ‘big break’ as Andy’s muse and seems it’s going the way of Martine McCutcheon in My Fair Lady

I don’t thinks she’s been happy in Cinders for some time. I think the WEL debacle was a very big knock down for her and the events since then have taken the shine off her crown. When people in a steady job take a lot of unscheduled time off there’s usually something wrong. From ceebee’s report it sounds like the show isn’t in great shape, despite it being open for a very short amount of time. That’s not a good sign.

I think if she could just be off sick quietly it'd be fine. From my watching of the west end understudies twitter lots of people are off allll the time, but there's no need to blast everything on Instagram, including your shimmying about at special events the night before. Just be quietly off if you need to be and then come back when better. It just doesn't need to be a big thing.

The direction is all over the place, there were two missed cues, it feels sloppy and looks like a show that has been running for ten years and needs refreshing. I speak as a fan of the show too. I try to see the good in most things, but this show needs totally reworking before it hits Broadway. I gave it four stars originally; on today's performance I'd lower that to scraping in at three stars.

This ^^^ I don’t think I’ve ever seen such a focus on a leading actor and their ‘time off’ since the days of Glenn, Alfie and Martine - all of them much bigger ‘stars’ It’s the constant drawing of our attention to it via social media. I’m sure there wouldn’t be as much fuss if she just didn’t post about it?

As others have said it’s different performing a full two and a half hour show and going and singing probably one single song. And also maybe she was feeling better. Maybe she was ill with one thing and now ill with something else. Maybe going to the Diana thing made things worse. Maybe she gave a terrible performance at the Diana thing due to how ill she is. Or maybe it’s all a ruse and she’s lying to us all. It’s all pure speculation and all any of us have to go off are a handful of social media posts. Does it look good? Not really. But maybe when she posted those photos it was with the full intent of being back in the show. I’m pretty sure I saw her post the other day that she got all the way to the theatre and was only when she was there that it was decided she was too ill and went home. Can’t quite remember what day that was. But that doesn’t seem like someone with a bad work ethic to me.

She’s created a world for her supporters where her presence on stage is absolutely everything, until she doesn’t want to be on stage at which point everyone is supposed to forget about it (you bought a ticket for Cinderella you saw Cinderella) and stan the alternates. I don’t think asking her not to draw attention to it is a viable solution. She HAS to draw attention to it, that’s the job she’s created for herself on her socials! It presumably generates revenue and she relies on it so much that stopping is no longer viable. I wonder what the future is for her after Cinderella.

Maybe her doctor told her she was OK to do a short gig (which presumably carried a financial penalty if she'd dropped out at the last minute) but not a whole show? Your ability to assume the worst about her is astounding. I don't even like her in the slightest but the amount of vitriol she has been getting lately on this forum is sickening. Some of you should take a long hard look in the mirror - you should be ashamed of yourselves. No-one knows what may be going on inside someone else's head or in their life, and to judge her in the way you are doing is pathetic.

Unless the person in question is putting their life out on social media to be judged? Thank you, BurlyBear, indeed. If she wants to constantly put it out there for everyone to see, she should be prepared for what some call "vitriol". And yeah, maybe she has seen a doctor. Who knows? But flaunting all over social about your hob-knob with the elite between two shows you missed, both because you were ill, is pretty darn ridiculous and certainly cause for CONSUMERS - because that's what we are, we are actually paying to see something that she profits off of - to question why she is out yet again. As for the "on the way to the theatre" thing.... Honestly, she's told us before sometimes she just has too much anxiety to perform, etc etc. I respect mental health is a necessary thing to take care of - believe me, I'll spare you the details of mine. But I also know that when we commit to this industry, it comes with sacrifice. Maybe she isn't cut out for it and should stick to albums and writing. I don't know. But what I do know is that she comes across incredibly entitled, and incredibly unprofessional.

Appreciation of and criticism of her work, both on stage and on social media is valid. If it relates to Cinderella then this is the thread to do it. If it doesn’t relate to Cinders then it’s not. There’s a thread for her in Performers. Stuff that’s personal isn’t allowed. Personal doesn’t include an YouTube or Instagram feed. Come on, we know how it works by now don’t we?
