Yeah VHB was off (I'm almost certain as I've seen VHB before and would've recognised her). Whoever the stepmother was looked uncannily like Bianca Del Rio.
The whole thing is just massively misjudged, uneven, with no clear idea of what it wants to be. There's maybe 20 minutes of a decent musical in there, surrounded by 2 hours of rubbish.

Whoever the stepmother was looked uncannily like Bianca Del Rio. Now that would have made the show much more bearable. Actually, pop in a load of drag queens and go the heck for it. When I saw it, I kept wavering between enjoying some of the songs (a few are gorgeous) and then hating a lot of the dialogue, story choices etc….a real kitchen sink of ideas that really didn’t add up to much for me apart from what was a bit of a sludgy mess. I love a lot of ALW’s work but disappointingly I found Cinderella to be a tedious watch for the most part.

In what brain state do you have to be in to think that this was the right song to release as a single? Particularly with a video cobbled together in such an amateur way.

Well it is the title song (or as close to it) and it was the one that persuaded me to give the show a try, so it must work sometimes

The video's a bit lazy to say the least but the song's what got me to go as it wouldn't get out of my head so a decent choice I'd say.

I’m not sure what that’s actually supposed to be? A video for a single? It’s terrible. Also does CHF ever dance in Cinderella? She just seems to pace around and get dragged about in these clips. I don’t recall her dancing in Addams, or Heathers, not Les Mis obvs. Can she?

I quite liked the video. Must be easily pleased, I guess.

I don't think CHF can dance, no. There's a couple of tiny steps, if you can call them that, in the BC number and that's it. A couple might be overcounting. There's a... step. In rhythmic fashion.

But she's certainly never claimed to be a good dancer.

The constant switching between a new recording and the studio cast recording, the added autotune and the shortened sustained notes make me mad. Why couldn´t they just make her lip sync to the studio recording? It´s the exact same tempo as the live show, so no need to re-programme the lighting and the revolve. I did love the clips from the show.

This is the song where she says she won’t change for anyone, then within the hour she’s changing herself for someone? Have I got that right?

For all the build-up for the video for it to turn into a 3-minute splice of clips from the show was a bit underwhelming. And the song is hardly new since it was dropped at least over a year ago by now. The whole thing seemed terribly odd to me.
Did anyone watch the Q&A with the cast? Anyone ask if they've all kissed and made up yet?

Watched the video. Just a bit naff really, wasn't it? Not offensively bad, just standard for a ALW show "music video". They are all, always, terrible . It's no worse than Wads' "Our Kind of Love" for example.
Nothing to see here!

I enjoyed the video, mainly for the design and lighting it shows. It wasn't a big advance on previous clips, but showed more of the defaced statue, clearer reactions to that act, and the image of her tied to a tree at the end would certainly have any newbie quite surprised at the angle this Cinderella takes. From that POV I think it's effective. For those of us who've seen the show, or have got to know a lot about it by stealth, it wouldn't feel like much.

I thought an excellent ALW promo video was 'You're In The Band' for Broadway 'School Of Rock', in 360 degree video. All done in one continuous take, everyone performs well, and everything goes right, including tiny things like throwing and catching of security pass lanyards. You can even tilt your view up to to find the lyrics and guitar chords on the ceiling. Lots of creativity and going the extra mile.

They are all, always, terrible . It's no worse than Wads' "Our Kind of Love" for example. At least the "official video" for 'Our Kind Of Love' wasn't just a promo for a failing show, and The Beautiful Game failed harder than this is. It had nothing to do with the show at all.

Well, I went back to see this today having not seen it for a while. It felt lacklustre and lethargic with the cast seemingly going through the motions. On the upside, I saw Georgina Onuorah as Cinderella - I thought she was excellent. Also, it looked like it was a full house (or close to it). The downside is that the cuts and changes haven't fixed things, and creases that might have been ironed out over time still remain. I loved the energy and enthusiasm when this show opened, but now it feels so tired. Perhaps it's the climate we currently live in but the plot twist, jokes, innuendo all feel so dated to me. I want to love this show again but am finding myself more in agreement with those who see the faults. It feels like Martin Guerre all over again (a show I loved, despite its flaws).

Martin Guerre is a masterpiece compared to Cinderella.

Martin Guerre is a masterpiece compared to Cinderella. Oh dear, that really doesn’t bode well! I loved Martin Guerre but they never really fixed the issues in the many reincarnations that were staged so I’m almost worried about trying Cinderella now.

I loved Martin Guerre! Dont take my word on that about Cinderella, Go and see it. We all like different things. Even through all the different revisions, MG still felt more coherent than Cinderella does.

I love Martin Guerre in almost all its incarnations... I also love Cinderella, flaws and all. As tbfl said, we all like different things, try not to be influenced either way.
