Tess’ frock is nice but her shoulders are lopsided. Shirley’s frock - hiddy New judge’s frock - WTF? No comment on Claudia’s outfit 😑 I was distracted by the light bouncing off of her over-shimmered décolleté.

Kelvin Fletcher who played Andy Sugden for 20 years in Emmerdale is Jamie's replacement. So they have got someone fairly well known and it gets Oti a partner.
The couples seem fairly well matched up, you can always think of alternatives but this year's match ups I'd regard positively.
Motsi apart from looking like a toilet roll doll in that dress came across well and obviously has the knowledge ans experience.

I’m pleased for Anton that he hasn’t been given a comedy partner this year. Interested to see how some of the partnerships will work out, overall they do appear to have been matched quite well. Will seems very sweet and I quite like Kelvin Fletcher so feeling a bit more hopeful about this year’s bunch.

A lot of people had Anton pegged to get Anneka or maybe Michelle but Emma is an interesting choice for him. Kelvin is probably more well known than some of the other "celebs" so is a good signing plus being an actor he may have done some dance training and will be able to take direction well.

Kelvin and Oti were my favourite tonight, such a fun routine! Wouldn’t it be great if he won considering he came in as the understudy?!

I've already decided I want Kelvin and Oti to win. He came out and and just went for it, was brilliant and it was so much fun. I can't believe he was a reserve - should have just be in it in the first place!
I did quite like Will and Janette too - very likeable indeed.

For this first episode, I thought the men were a little stronger and more entertaining than the women, but in some cases it was down to the dance they were given (very hard to shine with a Viennese Waltz as your first dance!) Kelvin, Karim and Dev all impressed. Michelle was a pleasant surprise. Love the way Giovanni choreographs to highlight his partner's strengths and give them confidence. Felt for Emma having Anton as her partner, he's one of the weakest choreographers. He makes it all about him in an annoying way (Why was she reading a magazine with him on the cover? Why do we care that he doesn't rate his previous partners? Why do the annoying costume reveal when you could see her costume underneath? Why all the chat about him being the king of Strictly?) Kevin didn't look like he'd tried very hard with Anneka, despite their non-eco friendly helicopter ride. The first couple of dances seemed a little harshly marked (I think Alex is going to be very good) and some others were a bit generous. But a fun show.

My theory is that Kelvin has dance experience. Possibly even ballroom. He was very good.
Perhaps they like a reserve with some experience so he/she can slot in more easily at the last minute.

He's been a full time cast member on Emmerdale since about 7 years old so i doubt he'd have had much chance to train as a ballroom dancer.....

But he had hips. Never seen a celeb look so right on their first dance.

Good opening show. Scoring a bit hit and miss. I thought Alex and Neil were better than Katherine.

But he had hips. Never seen a celeb look so right on their first dance. Well some people are always going to be better than others, and some will respond to the teaching and pick up choreography and technique more quickly (and some pros are better teachers of that than others too). Not sure what you're trying to imply?

He's not even the highest scoring celeb they've ever had in the first week.
He did do that Full Monty thing on ITV earlier this year, maybe that got his hips moving!

Not sure what you're trying to imply? I’m not implying anything other than he looks like either he’s had experience or he naturally good at dancing. I’m not bothered which and fully enjoyed his contribution this week. I’m glad that the majority have at least some potential. Our goalkeeper excluded.

Kelvin was very good, he's clearly a fit guy and knows how to take direction/chorography being an actor. Karim was expected to be good and I'm pleased Amy has a partner nearer her own age finally. Johannes seems as if he could be a fun pro as he came across as a very witty and camp guy on the show about the Pros last week. Catherine seems to have a few dippy moments so we could have some entertainment as well as good dancing from that duo.
Motsi made some good points as I thought she would but I don't think her stylist did her any favours as her outfits so far haven't done her curves justice and makes her look falsely bigger. Motsi isn't a size 6 or 8 but is a naturally curvy and beautiful woman and this should be celebrated. Also if they ever remake Police Academy she'd make a great Officer Hooks with her little voice.
I think he show needs a few weeks to get going but we should have another good series.

Did anyone else on the board watch this tonight??
I find the judges comments very inconsistent with their scoring, for example they were quite critical of Kelvin yet gave him 7’s and Will got very positive comments with scores of 6’s. There’s a few very poor dancers but unfortunately think they will get the public vote and be in for a few weeks.

Couple of Strictly related updates - Stacey Dooley is hosting next year's live tour and Shirley has got to have her boob implants removed as due to the risk of cancer. She is apparently having them out at the end of Oct after Halloween week but hopes not to miss any of the Strictly shows.
Hopefully all goes well for her regarding this.

Felt like a terribly long show and some rather lacklustre performances. Am I cynical to think that Kelvin was deliberately put at the endto keep everyone watching? I knew they’d pull him down after last week, possibly he was a bit cocky and needed it.
I thought Visage was boring and she’s already started doing the “mother” thing. Huge ad for Drag Race UK though of course which just happens to be on BBC3.
I feel sorry for Mike Bushell, already picked out as this year’s clown. Predictable.
