I sat in AA20 when I went - this is an aisle seat in the centre block. Legroom was a little bit tight (I'm about 6 feet) - found it a bit uncomfortable but at that point these seats were only £15. I would suggest further back.

Yep, good job I checked. I've sat on the aisle on D and E as well and the legroom is appalling considering the prices. I want to see Bonnie so I’m going to look at A on the side as ptwest suggests. K is the other option of course, but have you noticed that the first two seats on the sides across the aisle flip flop between £65 and £125 depending on which performance you’re looking at?

Go for the outside aisle, first few rows (B4, C6 etc). The theatre seating curve means you can stretch your legs into the aisle and you have a clear view of the stage.
The pricing is dynamic, so keep an eye on it. Those seats often discount close to the show (they may disappear on the day for day seats/rush, but there are generally some available if you're flexible with the row).
There was a very good discount code which discounted the £65 tickets to £35, but looks like it's been pulled. But there are some discount codes still out there and most of the third party sites have access to exactly the same tickets as the box office.
When I've checked, the Wednesday matinee tends to be the most expensive show of the week.

Firstly D8 in the stalls, best seat ever. Juts out from the row in front so you have a totally clear view of the stage and great for stretching your left leg which as a godsend as I have a bad knee at the moment. Looked like the balcony was closed on Saturday night and could see a few rows at the back of the stalls were empty. Reasonable audience but I have seen much more receptive audiences. Standing ovation at the end was a bit rubbish at first but ended up pretty much everyone.
All the leads were on apart from Christopher Howell, sorry I didn't get the name of the understudy but he was fine. Clare and Ashley on top form and looked like all the ensemble were there. Hasn't Asley day got a lovely smile? Now to Bonnie. Well she was excellent as I expected (isn't she tiny?). As someone else mentioned she played to the comedy of the role and made the most of it. Fine singing voice and just faltered on a couple of notes. She is great in that role and is a real asset to the company. If I had to choose between the 3 main people who have played the role I would say that Sheena Easton had the best singing voice but Bonnie Langford was by far the best actress and best overall. Jay (conductor) wasn't there last night. Has he left or just off for the night? Probably wont go again until Christmas and then I have my treat of the last performance in January.

Really pleased to hear all the good reviews of Bonnie.
I've not been for a while but back at the end of the week and really looking forward to it.

I've decided to take my mom for this musical next month, as a birthday present. I have little worries, as she doesn't speak English - on the other hand the plot is so obvious that I'm sure she'll get it. Moreover she has never been to the UK! That will be fun.
That said, I'm wondering what's your tickets strategy? I'm aiming at the matinee on Saturday. I've always bought tickets for this much in advance, the famous stalls A far side - now they are obviously unavailable. There are some fairly decent stalls seat valued 35 GBP. What's your experience - is there a chance that better tickets will became available closer to the show, or the tickets will become cheaper?

Charlene Ford rejoins the cast tonight fairly soon after having her baby, as a job share.

If you want to treat your Mum I'd go for the best of the £35 tickets now - alternative is trying for the £25 day seats but they may not be any better and you may not get one!

The Saturday matinee is one of the busiest shows of the week. For one person, I'd risk leaving it, as there are always cheap single seats about. For two, I'd book in advance if you want to sit together.
And I would brief her on the plot in advance. I've sat through the show so many times with non-English speakers talking and trying to make sense of it. I think the time jumps between rehearsals and performance are confusing the first time you see it, even if you speak English.

Finally managed to see Liam Wrate at Billy Lawlor last night (2nd cover). Good second row seat, only marred slightly by a woman in the front row pulling out a large camera from her bag (no idea how she got it through security - but someone did tap her on the shoulder and she stopped), after which she proceeded to variously lean against the stage, shuffle in her seat and even do jazz hands at one point. I wasn't convinced she could understand English.
Lots of other covers on too:
Lisa Dent as Annie Mark McKerracher as Abner Dillon Alyn Hawke as Mac/Doc/Thug Gabrielle Cocco as the Thief (mentioned only as this is usually a male role)
They were short of people, 22 female ensemble and 9 male ensemble. The stage did look empty for some songs. Alyn Hawke also doubled up as a Gangster in Forty-Second Street (in fact, the Gangster, as there was only one of them). And almost all of the cast took their bows in the Finale costumes.
Bonnie Langford was excellent this week, word perfect. All of the regulars were as good as usual.
Think it's the first time I've seen Lisa Dent as Annie. She was great, although a slightly more reserved portrayal.
The main reason to attend was to see Liam Wrate and I was impressed. He played Billy just like Ashley Day (plus he did cartwheel in Money). Excellent singer and dancer.
The sound seemed a bit low throughout, but it may just be certain seats where it's not optimal. I did think some of the microphones were turned on late.
The orchestra was conducted by the always pleasant Andy Massey.
Only about three people took part in the standing ovation, unfortunately (yes, myself included). The top two levels were closed (two people in front of me in the queue were upgraded to the front Dress Circle) and there was plenty of availability in the side Stalls, so I think that does hurt the atmosphere. On the plus side, I was still able to get an excellent Rush seat at about 4pm when I found out Liam was on.

Well, I hope tiny Bonnie Langford, in her two inch heels, has to dig really deep for her portrayal of Dorothy Brock. Please excuse my French, but she (Dorothy) is now a bitch with a capital B! Unlike at Dr Toms evening performance, at yesterday's matinee she wasn't quite word perfect, though being a pro, most of the audience wouldn't have known that, and her contract didn't initially unfurl.
I agree that Liam Wrate was very impressive as Billy, and I think I prefer Mark McKerracher as Abner Diller. Jae was in the pit.
The Balcony was closed, but the Dress Circle was open, though only half full, and despite almost giving away tickets via the TodayTix 24 hour sale, the Royal Circle, where I was sitting, and Stalls, in particular, were both far from full.
My advice, for what it's worth, to anyone who has only seen 42nd Street from the front stalls, is to see it, at least once, from the Royal Circle. You will get, literally, a completely different perspective!

Hannah is on as Peggy tonight.
I'm sure she will be wonderful but I have to admit to being a bit gutted Clare is not on.

I support understudies when and where I can, but I'd be truly gutted to see anyone other than Clare as Peggy. She is the star and every as it stands, the only one of the four leads I have seen every, single time. It wouldn't be the same without her. I know I shouldn't pre-judge... but thats what I'm doing.

She was good and everyone there seeing the show for the first time would have really enjoyed, as I did, but Clare is exceptional and a very hard act to follow.
First time seeing Bonnie and she was wonderful!

Managed a centre front row seat for tonight, first time seeing Bonnie! I figure if Clare is on its amazing, but I should give the understudy a chance if not. I've been in the front block every time I've seen the show, but not front row since the third preview! So I couldn't say no when it was offered on TodayTix today!

Was chatting with my friend the other day. What’s next for Clare? She truly is the star of this show but the role is so niche and she is in her mid thirties - she can dance incredibly there’s no doubt about that but she’s not the most exceptional singer so what could she follow this with? She surely can’t go back to the ensemble now but a girl’s gotta work? Seems a real shame that there’s nothing on (at the moment) for which she fits the bill as she is a huge talent that deserves a lead role on the west end.

I actually think she'd be a great Dawn in Waitress! I'd also be intrigued to see her as Glinda in Wicked if she has the range or it, and I know I know she has expressed interest in giving that role a bash!
