I think she might have made the deal under the assumption that Groundhog Day would be a hit on Broadway. If nothing comes in the next year or so this version of Groundhog Day might not be seen again. We will have to wait 10 years before it's put on at the Menier or Donmar. Just because it was a hit back in 2016 doesn't mean it will be a hit in 2020.

It was a pity it didn't go from the Old Vic to the West End. It had been well received at the Vic and could have capitalized on that in the West End before heading over to the harsher waters of Broadway.

Its been discussed here before, but its not to be forgotten that Groundhog Day opened on Broadway in the same, very busy season as Dear Evan Hansen and Come From Away, both of which completely stole the limelight. To open in the West End hot between CFA and DEH, would probably be unwise and its widely thought producers are biding their time. Given the lacklustre reception Waitress has gained it's probably proving a wise move. 2020 will be the year of the groundhog (I recon).

Groundhog Day was beset with problems on Broadway- the set kept malfunctioning,the show was expensive to run,the star,Andy Karl tore his ACL and this hampered his performance considerably and as has been stated it got swamped by CFA and Ben Platt’s star turn in DEH which had $40m in advance bookings.One of the top backers,Scott Rubin pulled out perhaps sensing disaster and eventually the show bombed to the tune of nearly $20m.Just cannot see this being a success over here if a show like Waitress is in trouble.

Mr Barbaby said that one of the shows circling the Adelphi if Waitress closes early is Pretty Woman ... but I wonder if the producers are rethinking this given the size of the Adelphi and that the show hasn’t been the big hit it looked like it might be when it first opened. It’ll probably largely or entirely get shut out of the Tony noms too which won’t help. The show hasn’t been rerunning a year on broadway and it’s box office returns have really gone down since last year. The Savoy is that were available might be a better fit.

Interestingly, Michael Rose was one of the producers of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang when it opened in the West End. I think I remember this being announced just a few years back but then postponed, so maybe it will finally happen. Can't imagine this being a "big" musical, so will be interesting to see which venue it books, if any.

It would be a good one to bring in late this year if Pretty Woman won't make it. It will appeal to the "elder female crowd" who have little interest in all the American teenybopper shows like Evan Hansen and Mean Girls, the similarly constructed &Juliet and the family-orientated Mary Poppins. And before you jump me, I consider myself part of that elder female crowd I have booked DEH due to the subject much more than the noisy music and can't muster any interest in either Mean Girls or &Juliet. I'd welcome a truly romantic love story between actual adults, ideally with a properly romantic score.

I'd welcome a truly romantic love story between actual adults, ideally with a properly romantic score. So much this, I want a grown-ass adult (not like that, ok a bit like that) musical. Also pretty music. Is that so much to ask? Anyway no complaints from me...

To Kill a Mockingbird I imagine will be either 2020 or 2021,I don’t think it needs a theatre that’s super large, somewhere like the Piccadilly would be fine and it’s hosting plays at the moment

Big mistake. Huge. And if they don’t believe me they should ask Gary Barlow and co. why they changed The Girls back to Calendar Girls. Remember Sleepless was meant to open at The Lowry a couple of years ago with Danny Mac starring. I do believe I had a ticket in my possession. It didn’t happen then and I doubt it will happen this time either.

A question/query. I'm sure that when Elliot Harper productions was set up, there was plans laid out for five shows. So far I recall Heisenberg, Lion/Witch/Wardrobe, Company and the upcoming Death of a Salesman. If I remember rightly the fifth production was to be another musical - anyone remember this article? Or am I imagining it?

So there is one new show that was predicted a few years ago as coming into town that I now understand will be Back sometime in The near Future. Well final auditions are happening now so something is certainly happening down in Hill Valley.

I think plans for a season per se were slightly derailed when Angels in America went to New York - with Elliot & Harper Productions being a co-producer. The Yael Farber Oedipus seems to have been conveniently dropped from the E&H website - and in programme bios.

Do we think “Ain’t To Proud” will be fast tracked to the W.E. following the Tony love and it quickly becoming a massive hit on Broadway. It’s something I think West End audiences will eat up.

There is definitely a gap in the market for Ain’t too Proud. I think we will see it over in the next few year but not immediately. It took a few years for Motown to transfer. The other one from this season I think we will see is Tootsie, although the producers would be wise to wait a while until Jamie closes (which could be a while yet!)

It Tootsie comes they better bring Santino Fontana with it! My friend’s loved him since Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and that voice! I guess he’s sort of a niche star on the same level as KMP in Waitress so they might bring him over?

Wembley stadium - Company Oh God no, strong dislike for arena gigs. Strangely I was wondering whether we'd see a Company reunion charity-type thing one evening at some point. Similar to the event the Broadway Groundhog Day cast did at Studio54 not too long after it closed.

Of all of the shows currently on Broadway I’d love to see the Prom, Tootsie & King Kong come over. Purely selfishly as I can’t currently afford another trip over to NYC soon!
