Another one-off is being filmed at the London Palladium. I was in the Stalls for the last one. This time it's to be hosted by John Barrowman [ instead of Freddie Flintoff] & Elaine Paige is advising [ instead of Michael Crawford].

Just got an email saying I’ve got a ticket. I didn’t watch the last one so have no idea what kind of standard to expect from these apparently top-notch (yet to be named) celebs. At least I’ll get to watch Elaine Paige pretending her ears aren’t bleeding.

Kevin Clifton is one of the judges. Yes, he may be a dancer but his MT background is v v v limited.
I will not be watching the show as a result. Other than perhaps watching the performances and skipping over the 'adjudication'

Alan Titchmarch is a very good musician, he conducted a friend's band last year at a fete and knew just what he was doing. I wouldn't mind betting he has a good voice.

Well this was a total shambles of a recording. Firstly only 200 of us bothered to turn up for the prerecord, so they were trying to drag people in off the street. They said when they showed it in the evening they would add the audience sound as so few of us. However they never showed it due to what happened. We were all in the stalls & were told when we collected our tickets that those of us attending later too would be able to collect tickets straight after. - We couldn't. By 1.30 those of us from the morning supplemented by the early arrivals finally got tickets after a man had come out of the theatre shouting about people ringing him to complain. We were given lousy seats in the gods while people still queueing for seats when the doors opened after 6pm got the good seats. The mood was awful & people were complaining left , right & centre. Those who made the most fuss were moved. - We could see there were quite a few empty seats in stalls & dress circle.[ I was so glad I hadn't booked a cheap seat for "Joseph" as the steepness of the stairs in the auditorium in the Upper circle is terrible.] Well it was supposed to finish by 10.30. A few people left just before 10 & by 10.15 [ when it was obviously going on a lot longer] the floodgates opened & there was a mass walkout from all areas of the theatre. They were frantically moving people into the gaps & pleading with them not to go. I finally walked out at 11.30 after the winner was announced but before they had done any "pick-ups". I had to run to the station for my last train to find it was cancelled but engineering works were on an adjacent line so later trains were going on my line to liase with a special bus service. Finally got home at 1.15am. Needless to say I won't bother to go to another of their shows.

Oh no anita that's terrible - glad you managed to get home eventually! I ended up returning my ticket as I was very tired yesterday and honestly wasn't that fussed about seeing it. Sounds like I made the right call - what a shambles! With so much filming done in theatres these days it seems absurd that it was so poorly organised. |

I would agree that this was a nightmare in terms of organisation. Tons of information sent thorough beforehand about ticket collection was completely inaccurate. I had tickets for the evening recording and arrived at about 4.30pm, expecting to queue and be given a wristband at 5pm which woud then prioritise who had arrived first in the allocation of seats. Must admit, the idea of calling out numbers and letting people in in batches seemed unworkable with an audience this size, but that's what they said they were going to do.
We found a very short queue when we arrived at 4.30, as people were already being admitted to the box office, where named and numbered allocated seats were issued. Great, we thought, but like anita, we were towards the rear of the gods (thanks a lot!) and suspected the long queue of much later arrivals were seated further down. Although some people said on Twitter that they didn't get in at all.
The show had some enjoyable bits, I don't want to post spoilers as it's on quite soon (Sunday 17th) but there were some lovely performances from Barrowman, EP & Kristin, followed by the contestants, who varied in quality but all had beautifully staged numbers, most with a fantastic ensemble.
But, boy did it drag on. Audience expected to sit there from 7pm until goodness knows when; from about 10pm people gradually started leaving. We left at 10.45, as we were in danger of missing our last train home. The last contestant had performed but it was before the final audience vote result was announced - so I don't know who won, and by that point I didn't care, and didn't want to have another f*ing sing-song with the valiant warm-up guy! I'll watch it on the telly, when it should hopefully make quite a good show.
A shame, as this could have been a very enjoyable evening. I've been to TV recordings before and understand that it has to be stop-start, and that things have to be re-done, but this was very poorly organised and the audience seemed to be treated really badly. So many people walked out that they won't be able to use any wide audience shots from the latter part of the evening - any enthusiatic applause you see will have been edited in from earlier when we still had the will to live..!

TV recordings can drag on especially if they are in a none studio venue.
