Sorry, what are the new musicals of the season? The go between, Aladdin, Murder Ballad, Dreamgirls and...? School of Rock... and Murder Ballad isn't eligable as the Arts Theatre isn't eligable.  |

I think Best Musical Actress will be the hardest to call out of the likes of Sheridan and Amber.
After seeing the show again, I hope Funny Girl wins best revival but I also hope Darius and Marilyn Cutts are up in Best Supporting Role!

Sheridan is the most likely win of Funny Girl... the strength of the whole show rides on that role (I say role rather than just Sheridan because Natasha too was fantastic!). The show wouldn't at all be the show it is without the strength of both performances.

I agree with you on 4 of those but I honestly can't see The Go-Between being nominated over Groundhog Day or Motown? Usually they only have 4 nominees in that category anyway so I think the last 4 you said could be up for it. |

On the other hand, Candide won Best Musical in 1988 and it opened on Broadway in 1956... the problem with the Oliviers is that they make the rules as they go along. |

I don't think Dreamgirls will be under best musical revival because it is new to the UK. It's never been done professionally in the Uk which means it's new. Didn't we had someone in this thread confirm SOLT were classing it as new anyway?
Considering all the buzz for this production I hope it does win best new musical, if the show is put together well

I am fully aware it is a new musical here, but as mentioned previously, the Oliviers make it up as they go along. For all we know, they could throw it anywhere just to give another show a chance at a nomination. That being said, Groundhog Day for the win!  |

I'd say Groundhog Day, School of Rock, Dreamgirls (if it isn't ruled revival) and Aladdin (bear in mind it got the Tony nomination).

I mean, we all know they make it up as they go along and sometimes the award is given as much for a nominee being notable as for being good. So I wouldn't be in the least surprised if there was a little behind-the-scenes conspiracy to give Groundhog Day awards so that it can be opened on Broadway as "THE OLIVIER-AWARD-WINNING MUSICAL, THE OLIVIERS ARE LIKE THE TONY AWARDS, BUT WITH SEXY BRITISH ACCENTS, SO YOU *KNOW* THEY'RE GOOD". But also I wouldn't mind if that was the case, because I really love Groundhog Day.  |
