I enjoyed that musical. Saw it at Trafalgar Studios a few years ago with Daniel Boys and Julie Atherton. That's the one. I managed to get a Broadway cast recording.

The Drowsey Chaperone. I don't think it got a fair crack of the whip last time

The Donmar’s City of Angels. It was one of the biggest victims of Covid, never fully opening its West End transfer. And whilst most other shows have subsequently re-opened or have at least been rumoured (eg. Imelda’s “Hello Dolly”) I’ve heard nothing about that show which I so desperately wanted to see!
I’ll also throw in another vote for Drowsy Chaperone. But don’t take another casting gamble like they did with Elaine. Just bring Beth Leavel over to reprise the Chaperone and show us how it’s done.

Does anyone remember a musical called Boy Band? I've still got the CD.
I wouldn't mind that being revived for a bit of fun.

Didn't get the fuss on Drowsy at all, found it a bit cringe. But Elaine really wasn't the problem. If Elaine couldn't bring people in no way would Beth Leavel. Is anything they needed much bigger names accross the cast for it to stand a chance with general public

Shows I'd love to see revived based on enjoying the cast recordings would be The Bakers Wife, Woman of the Year, Wonderful Town and Mack and Mable.
Also I would love for the broadway production of Merrily to return to London with the current cast.

Wonderful Town was revived at Holland Park open air Theatre in 2021. It starred Louise Dearman and in a featured role, a young Billy Nevers who went on to appear in & Juliet, Legally Blonde and Groundhog Day.

Has Camelot ever been revived in recent years, always heard a lot about it but have never seen it as a production.

Has Camelot ever been revived in recent years, always heard a lot about it but have never seen it as a production. The book is the main reason this struggles to get revived. The score is wonderful. But the dialogue is plodding. There was a concert version not so long back!

I was talking about Camelot in the UK. I've always really liked the score.

I think it was a little cut.

Did it work as a piece of theatre ? Yes. It was a strong cast - Michael Jibson and Caroline Sheen leading. And I was so excited to back at a theatre at the time!

Don't know if it'd already been mentioned but Kiss of the Spiderwoman really needs to be revived (lets get Chita back on the stage) along with Xanadu (purely for its campness).

Problem is with the "old" shows although the music tends to be memorable - which we tend to know from recordings - the books can be problematic as seen through "today's eyes" and most would need adapting.

I wonder if Lincoln Center Theatre's recent production of Camelot may help swing the pendulum back in the other direction? Although I liked the new production, the response was almost universally negative. There was a lot of talk about not updating the books of classic musicals; just taking them as they are; or perhaps with just a few tweaks, rather than the major renovations that Camelot received.

As I've never seen them on stage:
Tommy Time - The Musical Return to the Forbidden Planet
and then as it's one of my personal favourites - Whistle Down the Wind without the changes to songs.

I'd also love any Kurt Weill musical (aside from Threepenny Opera) to be revived. Musically he was so wonderful and it seems a real shame that lots of his shows don't get produced.

I wish producers had the courage to do classic musicals as originally written - obviously with nothing that outrightly offends others - but with perhaps a proviso that what you are going to see is a show as performed when first written with possibily sensibilites for that particular time for example when TV channels now show the movie of "Gone With The Wind" with a warning rather than cancelling it outright.

What Kit66 says.....
Someone out there is going to be offended by something in every musical ever written. You just need to use your comments sense with the older musicals and realise they were written in a different age. If we keep cancelling and "reimagining" all these classic musicals we won't be left with anything.

Just watching A Chorus Line in Amazon and made me think that we could do with a revival. I think now would be a fitting time as we seem to have some great young dancing talent currently.
Edit. God the film was awful. I'd forgotten how bad it was.

Can't believe Kiss of the Spiderwoman has never been revived. While some shows date, that one seems to get more relevant all the time.
I also want to see a revised Stephen Ward (and I mean properly revised, not tweaked) because I think there's a fascinating musical with really strong characters hiding in there. I know I'm in a minority, though.
I'd also like to see... Billy Pal Joey Dear Anyone Mardi Gras The Magic Show (again, with a totally new book but that incredible score - you could weave an amazing book around those songs) Time (ideally in its original Time Lord incarnation) Fields of Ambrosia and, just because it feels very personal to me, Bernadette The People's Musical

Children of Eden Into the woods - Using the Fiasco theatre script Sunday in the Park Lady in the dark Superbia Gigi Brigadoon Kiss of the spiderwoman The visit... to be honest anything by Kander and Ebb Of thee I sing (i think this show still works and the score is glorious) ... I'd be interested in seeing some other original Gershwin musicals as we seem to get only juke boxes these days
