Unfortunately husband got rid of internet & computer several years ago as he was no good on it & I was so no chance. No internet cafes nearby because libraries free. I remember you've got a granddaughter who visits regularly. Has she got an old smartphone sitting in a draw. Then you'd just need a PAYG sim, which are widely available, plus a small amount of credit. Anyway, just a hopefully helpful suggestion. 🙂 Thanks TallPaul. I will ask my son.- the one that doesn't live in USA.!

Well! Let me share this. Having a clearout and putting all sorts on ebay. Page views are very significantly up in the last day or so.
Won't know for sure until the weekend but I suspect it's a good sellers market ..

At a safe distance, and without touching the handrail, I followed someone upstairs carrying a large Ann Summers bag. An odd choice of shop for a Mother's Day gift, I thought, but who am I to judge. Maybe he was simply stocking up on essentials for someone who is self-isolating! 😉

Or are planning how to keep entertained.

Risking it all with public transport at the moment getting to work each day. No idea where those pictures online of empty trains come from, mine are as busy as ever and that's at 7am. Trying to keep a distance is impossible. Also very difficult to do the same at work with big open plan offices. But I've made it home in one piece and decided not to wonder around a supermarket admiring the shelving units. Good thing is a day off tomorrow and good old M&S are letting people who work in the emergency services in tomorrow an hour early. So set the alarm tonight and heading there tomorrow morning with my ID. I wonder how many bags of percy pigs they will allow you to buy?

First day working from home, on a university laptop, running on my wonderful neighbour Lynn's wi-fi, as I have no internet. Mainly we've all been using the chat function in Microsoft Teams, solving unexpected issues and swapping silly stuff. We had our first attempt at an online meeting this afternoon, which was a bit chaotic, but huge fun.
As the library is now closed, we can run the virtual query-handling services, and after that, lots of LinkedIn training courses beckon.

All libraries where I live are closing from tonight so I won't be able to chat to you all, find out what's happening with shows I've booked or earn gift cards for doing surveys. Fed up.

I appreciate it might not be financially practical, but could you buy an internet stick that you can top up on pay as go you to get as much data as you need? Your local phone shop should be able to sort you out. If you haven't got a device to use it on you could get a basic smartphone, laptop or internet-enabled Kindle.

It seems that as well as being an opera singer my daughter-in-law is now a children's entertainer, helped by my grandson. Just seen some of their live internet broadcasts. They are on facebook at gymboree play & music washington dc.

anita , if you have to cyber-isolate for a while, remember that we are still your friends and will know you are here in spirit at least. Thanks theatremonkey. May be able to check in if I visit my youngest son. - He has a smart TV.

Day 3 of working from home and my connection to work server dropped out at 10am and I don't know why and I'm already done with this crap. Am going to drive to the office on Sunday to catch up and meet with IT to figure out the problem. Need to send out invoices before clients start disappearing.
I am done with this crap. Saying it twice for emphasis.

Smugness is...
...a person holding a newly purchased 12 pack of toilet rolls.
So I went into Camberley this morning - mainly to pay some cheques into the bank (remember cheques?) Popped into Sainsbury's at 8.50am for some tomatoes- reasonably well stocked but no toilet rolls obviously. Then just after 9.00am, when most shops open, at least ten people where sashaying down Park Street with the said comestibles, jauntily swinging them by their handy carrying strap.
I passed Wilkos and Robert Dyas on the way so I guess one or other was the purveyor.

Today's joy:
The management company at my new flat want the tenancy to begin on the 27th.
I am in temporary accommodation, having sharply put a halt to plans to be out of the country for at least the next few months, and would prefer the tenancy to begin yesterday.
The flat is vacant and I am in a Travelodge a three-minute walk away.
This too shall pass, and I'm doing my best to keep safe and spending as little time as I can outside my room, but I am less than delighted.

Day off today and M&S were letting emergency workers in an hour early. OMG! What a joy. Shelves full of lovely stuff and no pushing and shoving. Plus no one bulk buying. Mind you who could afford to bulk buy here. I'm very happy. I'm easily pleased though.

First day working from home and I'm already fed up and bored. I never realized how much I liked going to the office. Resolution: never moan about going to the office ever again.
Afternoon news: pubs and restaurants will be closed down from tonight. Since eating out and theatre are my hobbies, obviously I will be doing absolutely nothing interesting for the next few months. I also love holidays and summer, both cancelled now.
Success: I went for a shop hop this evening. Tesco, Waitrose and Sainsbury had all shelves empty as expected. If I want carbs I have to queue and fight at 7am. Never mind social distancing. Popped into the Asian shop as a last resort. Huge bags of rice on the shelves. Bought 2 just in case, I'm sorted until Christmas.

This was the end of the longest time I've ever worked from home. At least some of my regular lunch buddies and I had Slack video calls to keep in touch. And last night I got on a Facebook group video chat with friends in California. We played some games and caught up!
Stir-crazy, but could be worse.

I don't know what happened! It was a full-on day yesterday and then at some point in the early evening I apparently laid down. Just now woken up, had breakfast - egg on toast - and it's half-past midnight. What now
I did get a large monitor, which I plan to have on the floor and link up with regular Pilates and yoga classes via Youtube.
All eyes today will be on a 8am forage to M&S!

This morning I went out to buy some beer from a brewery shop I like. When I crossed the M40 it was weirdly empty, with two lanes completely unoccupied in one direction. It's like driving early on a Sunday morning without all the tedious stuff about having to get up early on a Sunday morning.
What I find inexplicable is that the shops are selling out of things faster than ever but nobody seems to be on the roads travelling to or from the shops. Where are all the shoppers who are clearing the shelves? Are they living in the ceilings so they can swoop down to gather toilet rolls for their nests?

I'm trying not to read the news more than a couple of times a day because it is so stressful doing so. I almost feel as though I'd rather die of coronavirus now than have to spend months, maybe years, reading about other people dying of it.

Gah. I have utterly failed today.
Discovered a mouse had been coming in to my kitchen. There’s a hole around the pipe from the washing machine into the wall, which must be where the bugger is getting in.
Thought, fine, I’ll get some of that expanding foam and fill around the hole.
My kitchen is teeny tiny and the washing machine sits under the worktop with just enough space to get into the cupboard under the sink opposite. There used to be a cupboard built in right next to it, which made getting it in and out an absolute nightmare, but I dismantled that and got one of this little trolleys with a cutlery drawer and veg basket to go under the worktop instead, to make access better. I also got fresh new vinyl put down in the kitchen.
So I thought it was fine, I’d just be able to pull the trolley out, pivot the washing machine around and out a bit, and get to the hole to fill it in.
Only the vinyl was not actually stuck down at the back wall under the worktop, so pivoting and pulling the washing machine has pulled it all up and rucked it up in folds around the back foot of the machine. And I can’t lift or tip the machine enough to pull it out again because of the lack of space. And in trying to rock and twist and move it enough to get it the foot loose I’ve managed to tear a big rip in the vinyl at the front of the machine - where it is visible.
After two and a half hours I gave up and called my Dad. Just because arrrgh! And now he is insisting on coming round tomorrow to help sort it out, with Mum - they are in their 60s so not technically the highest risk group, but there goes social distancing out the window.
Gaaaah.

I'm trying not to read the news more than a couple of times a day because it is so stressful doing so. I almost feel as though I'd rather die of coronavirus now than have to spend months, maybe years, reading about other people dying of it. Please don’t think like that. I realise this would be a lot easier if we had a finish date but you really have to try and think positive. There are books to read that you’ve never had the time to. Films to watch that you wanted to but there was always something to do. TV Programmes to catch up with. People to talk to who you’ve been meaning to call for ages and if you have a garden it is a wonderful place to be able to forget for a while. Take care of yourself and just think that there are some wonderfully clever and brilliant people in this country who are working round the clock to help us all out of this...

I feel like when I manage to get my sky high anxiety levels under control, this won't be so bad. At the moment I can't concentrate on anything becsuse I'm so worried but I hope that when this becomes a bit more 'normal' I'll be able to catch up with reading, cook well, clean my flat, maybe get some IKEA deliveries and do some flat pack...!
We just have to remember that it will be over at some point even if it feels long and scary now.
For people who are struggling to find food - try the smaller suppliers around you and Google for any direct from the farm deliveries in your area; I've been able to order a regular veg box that way.
Take care all xxx

Been feeling low today with nephew's birthday today and Mothers Day tomorrow. Both nephew and mum are in France so feel a long way away right now. Me and my brother were both in tears watching everyone dancing on Ant and Dec just now. We just have to stick together and get through it.
