Did anyone else get absolutely drenched post-theatregoing last night? It was tipping it down when I had to walk from the Vaudeville to Holborn tube station. I think it's the heaviest rain I've ever experienced in London. After a few minutes I gave up even bothering to avoid puddles because my shoes were so wet they couldn't get any wetter. I had to shower when I got home, at half past midnight. It was one of those occasions where you start to wonder if theatregoing is really worth the effort, especially as already my matinee plans had to be completely changed as I couldn't get to Alexandra Palace as no trains were running due to a body on the line (the second time in just over a month my theatregoing has been screwed up for that reason). Yep, two mins to the car and it was like being in a power shower. V wet. Survived. { Sorry I didn't mention of course terrible reason for the delay}

I’m loving the new website @theatremonkey. I hope you’ve giving Sammy and Chip time off over the festive season!

Very snazzy, @theatremonkey. I very much appreciate your hard work over many years, as I'm sure we all do, all without asking for anything in return. You couldn't give BurlyBeaR a 'refresh', could you? 🙂

Anyone else found that yesterday & today they can't access Theatremonkey's website? ’m loving the new website theatremonkey.com. I hope you’ve giving Sammy and Chip time off over the festive season! Thanks david. Sorry we were offline so long. The move to the new server turned out to have gone OK, but there were various issues around it. Glad you like the new site, and yes, they get the same time off as I do, LOL. You are looking very swanky TM, a real bobby dazzler :-)

Anyone watching my grandparent's war on channel 4? I've watched the Helena Bonham-Carter and Mark Rylance ones and have Kristin Scott Thomas to go, would strongly recommend.

Started in Caerphilly. Bus to Newport. Train to Swindon. Bus to Oxford. Motown the Musical matinee. Brisk wet walk to station. Train to London Marylebone. Tube to Piccadilly Circus. Another wet walk to Sondheim Theatre and now in behind-conductor-bargain-priced-front-row seat for Les Miserables and very very excited . Every bus and train on time too😊

Nothing raises the spirits more than an unexpected delivery to work of a lovely gift: a massive box of Lindt chocolates. I'm sure they were well-deserved, @theatremonkey, though I didn't know that monkeys ate chocolate. Still, at least they don't have waistlines to watch!

Very chastening, david. I'd suggest that the RSPCP confiscate the chocolate except that it may all have been consumed by now.

didn't know that monkeys ate chocolate Monkey cannot live by banana alone, as the saying goes.
Can't you get banana-flavoured chocolate?!

Evidently we only have a small monkey population!
From the photo’s you posted from your recent cruise, all the monkeys appear to be in Gibraltar!

Gibraltar has the most macaques in Europe, I believe, but there are some in captivity in Scotland - plus, obviously, one on the loose in the West End!

My boots sprang a leak on my way to the theatre this afternoon. Left sock was soaked. Thankfully it was a mild day, but sitting through a show, then journey home leaves me thinking I may have trench foot.

One of my local libraries has problems today. - Some online sites are blocked including hotmail & theatreboard. They obviously think you are undesirable.

Never seen a macaque loose in the West End, will look out for it and report it if I do, though. Have I misidentified your species? Based on your profile picture I thought you were a Barbary macaque, or if not that than a Japanese macaque.

A nice lovely start to a London theatre weekend. I’ve just been a fascinating tour of the House of Commons Library. They really are some stunning rooms to have a look around and I’d definitely recommend doing this tour if you get the chance.

I (successfully) defended my PhD thesis a couple of days ago! Lots of presents from family, friends and colleagues. Including a lot of vouchers for the theatre. Oh no! Woe is me! I guess I will just have to go to the theatre a lot next year

Wondering whether it is worth trying to go out and shop when it'll be mad and not sure what roads are under water. Flooding everywhere and more rain forecast. 😧

I went out shopping first thing this morning because Sunday mornings are always quiet. I wouldn't have wanted to try it yesterday morning.

Made it out was not as bad as feared. Picked up some bits for sister who has ill small ones, dropped that off, listless little ones who are normally bouncing of ceiling just flopped and very sad. In the space if time I was there child 3 had come down with a different bug and left me thinking the shop might be unnecessary and washing hands in attempt to ward off germs. Noooo can't be ill again.
