I find job hunting a real slog, I think I use LinkedIn as my primary social media more than I do Facebook or Instagram. I have had a couple of interviews although none of them successful although I have asked for feedback because you can learn from your errors. It's a really draining process! Most of the rejection emails I've had state that they can't offer feedback but it would be useful as I had a few interviews for similar jobs and didn't get any of them and I'd like to know what I'm doing wrong. Problem is, it could either be the case they they didn't like me or find me suitable at all OR that I was perfectly fine but someone else was a bit better. What I suspect often happens is that the post goes to an internal candidate but that it had to be advertised publicly to comply with the organisation's rules. I know internal candidates don't always win in these situations and there are many instances where they lose to an external applicant but I've seen enough of it from the inside to know it happens. In some cases even internal candidates have been urged to apply to make the process look better, even though managers already know who they want.

So after all night up working, got in bed and two hours later my dad called me. My grandma broke her hip (already broke the other one a couple of years ago). I'm exhausted, all morning in the hospital (and I hate hospitals with a passion), and then I work again tonight. Looong day today.

Annoying but I suppose it means I'm not doing anything especially wrong.

I've had better days. My mum was diagnosed with bone cancer this morning. Still a few tests before we'll know what the most appropriate treatment will be. She's very positive, and I'm convinced that's more than half the battle, and it isn't completely out of the blue, but it's not what we wanted to hear; as the person who'll be her primary caregiver (again), I think we're in for a bumpy ride.

She had a very minor brush with cancer about ten years ago - not the same cancer - but it's more that her health has been a bit of a rollercoaster over the last few years and this isn't the first time I've had to become her carer.
As far as I'm concerned, this is a setback, not the apocalypse - but as I said, I've had better days. Thank you.

From first hand experience mindset plays a huge part in it coping and recovery. Sounds like you have a trooper on your hands. All the best to you and her on this journey. And feel free to post your frustrations here if you need to vent.

That’s so awful sf - my own family has had several brushes with cancer over the years so I understand your feelings. We’re all here to talk if you ever need to

Did you get ticket insurance when buying for the show? No. Website now says back running from Monday. I can get there other ways if necessary but will take a lot longer & will be crammed.

Some business in St Albans, once complete took a walk around the town and stumbled on an organ recital at the Cathedral.
Listening to Bach as intended, one of life’s great pleasures.

Well, I was going to have a moan about a missing e-bay purchase....
But compared to what sf and @eldermillan and their loved ones are dealing with, I'll just send my best wishes to them instead.

My heart goes out to you sf and your mum. As someone who has been in your position of primary caregiver , I know you’re right when you say it’s likely to be a bumpy, and often for the caregiver, a very lonely ride . My main motivation (for want of a better word) during those dark days and nights , at the hospital or alone , when the caring was at home , was that there’s nowhere else I’d want to be at that time .... someone I love dearly needs my help and that’s where I’ll be . I wish you both much peace and hope the treatment goes well .

Good for you supporting your grandma , I’m sure your family will appreciate your efforts ..... and that is one remarkable effort doing two night shifts with just two hours sleep in between (and I bet not much sleep before the first night shift). I wish you both well .

A thought occurred to me this morning. Probably not original, but it's original to me.
If you work in an office with filing cabinets labelled "ABC", "DEF", "GHI" and so on and you don't refer to the second of these as "The Filing Cabinet ... of DEATH" then you are really wasting an opportunity.
Henceforth I shall think of the "3" key on my phone as "The key of DEATH".

So, just had an operation yesterday (postponed from a week earlier). Feeling pretty awful and have a theatregoing trip booked fo London next Tuesday to Thursday.
Am I going to make it? Seems touch and go at the moment. I’m not overly concerned about the sitting down in a darkened room but the train journey and getting between venues might be a struggle. So, how much pain is theatre worth?

Well. Turns out we have a snow day today. (Strictly speaking it's a raw sewage day, but still...)
Which is lovely. Lovely!
I don't even mind the hour's round trip to go in later and collect stuff I need for work over half term.
However, I'm having a bit of a Schrodinger's cat moment.🐈 The text informing everyone of the closure went out yesterday afternoon. Due to rubbish mobile phone reception, I received it at midnight.
All those hours when I could have been happy. *Wails dramatically*😫😭

I didn't get to sleep until 3am....I went to the theatre, got back late (as I had to drive from Newport to Cardiff) got home and couldn't sleep. Turns out it was a night for it and a couple of friends likewise had insomnia, but now I feel like death.

The sky is blue, the window is open, feels more like late spring than mid-Feb. 2 weeks ago it was snowing ...
