Shaping up nicely, so approximately which area works best for most people? Something central-ish? (Looking at specific locations mentioned above; people have mentioned theatres in the West End and South Bank.) If so, would somewhere in the NT foyer (upstairs or down) work? If not, what would others like to suggest? I'll be coming from the matinee at Hampstead & have yet to book my evening play/show so will plan round whichever location is chosen.

Actually yeah, prematinee may work for me as well, and for those who's afraid of people drinking this is definitely your choice of time Love NT so more than happy to spend some time in the foyers there. And speaking of an evening show to see on Saturday: one of my options is Sondheim's Frogs (http://www.jermynstreettheatre.co.uk/show/the-frogs/) anyone interested? I am not 100% settled on that but a nice company may help

If you meet at the NT, there are plenty of choices round there (the foyer in the theatre, along with its bars), the Understudy Bar outside, along with the Green Room behind it next to the Rambert offices, the bar areas in the BFI and the Royal Festival Hall or Topolski under the arches of the bridge by the Festival Hall.
Still undecided on whether I want to go and see Mick Harvey at Under The Bridge on the evening of the 25th, so not sure what times I could make it, but otherwise my day is pretty much open plan (might have a look on Today Tix closer to the time so see what is available).

I like the idea of the Understudy Bar because of its name Never been there so don't know about the prices but the name!!! infofreako - as someone who celebrated birthday starting drinking before 10 am and sometimes taking rum to the dayseat queues - I think you not only could but should drink before the matinee. Especially if you are seeing something that requires a drink for better connection with the show

But, but, but if you have it in the Understudy Bar, people might be tempted to, oh I don't know, have a drink or something! How dreadful. Best to have it in Starbucks I reckon. No alcohol. And the wifi is free.

It's a nice bar. I've seen stars drinking there before but only after shows. Can't remember the prices but I didn't like the cider.

Higher prices or poor choices could discourage me from drinking. If its attached to a theatre both points could be correct. Happy to meet there at some point in the day though. Does anyone who has used it have any idea on prices

Sadly I can't find a drinks list online for it but as I said it's nice and is always busy. I'm just quite fussy when it comes to cider haha.

I haven't been in the Understudy Bar for a few months, but I think it was somewhere in the area of 4 to 5 pounds for a bottle of beer, which is the going rate for all of the bars and pubs around there (only other Wetherspoons in Central London apart from that one in Victoria to the best of my knowledge is the one on Charing Cross Road, but that's only handy for those planning on seeing The Girls, Aladdin or Harry Potter)

That's not too bad I guess. Its the going rate in Brighton too so affordable enough.

Hmmm, I'd give all the bars in Leicester Square a miss (I say all, there's only the 'Spoons, the All Bar One and that hotel on the South side), they'll be packed all day and they're not exactly classy.

Don't forget that there's supposed to be some sort of big demonstration on 25th March which will make Trafalgar Sq. and environs very busy, so I would stick to the South Bank. Sadly my trains are non-existent at the weekends for another 3 months at least, most annoying. Maybe I can make a meet up in the summer.

Ok so 25th march. Understudy bar pre matinee. Can always aim to return there between matinee and evening performance unless others have suggestions

Great to see a suggestion that people seem happy with but what's the noise level like in the Understudy Bar, please? I never go in bars or pubs anyway (which was partly why I suggested somewhere that isn't one itself but for those who want alcohol has those options close at hand, i.e. the NT foyer) but my big issue with them is being deafened by a wall of sound and simply unable to hear people speak.
Normally lack of seating is also a deterrent (when you get older, you may have both a greater need to sit and and lesser ability to filter out background noise), but that has been addressed by the mention above of comfortable settees. If I'm going to the Young Vic or Soho Theatre, for instance, I won't wait in the bar area - which unfortunately means lurking in the small foyer despite the efforts of the staff to direct me to the bar - because the noise level feels almost like a physical onslaught.

I highly doubt that Understudy Bat would be loud and overcrowded before the matinee, but there is always an option to move to the NT foyer.
Re evening: Just got myself a ticket to Frogs, so if everyone wants to join we could find a cafe/bar somewhere in Soho (which would be rather difficult on Saturday evening, I guess) for preshow drinks.

Don't remember them playing any music in there, and if there was, nothing deafening, its always busy in there but I would have thought, like most places along the river, there'll be a lot of people in there with their children on a Saturday afternoon so seating might be at a premium.
