This isn’t selling well at all in Melbourne, first preview still has a ton of seats. Well in fairness, Sarah isn't going on that night. Tuesdays and Wednesdays the alternate is on. Sarah's first night looks better sold

I’ll be seeing it on the Wednesday night ( 2nd performance) to be honest I’m more excited to see Silva than Sarah. I’ll try to catch Sarah later in the run

Sarah looks great. Hold on folks, for another twist in the ALW Sunset Saga, if he decides Sarah is the ultimate Norma, and wants the film to be made - with her....! Lol I could definitely see this happening. Who would have thought all those years ago when everyone was discussing who might potentially star in a film version, that in 2024 Sarah would actually be an option! It still remains to be seen how she is in the show, but given her association with ALW and his continuous adoration of her (for example at the closing of POTO on BroadwY) I doubt it will even matter.

Lol [br Or he dumps Nicole and insists on Sarah for Broadway! History repeating....hahaha I am here for it! Again, how ironic would it be if he does an ALW and replace the actress for Broadway with someone else that he adores. I doubt it will happen, because I don't think he has that sort of hold on the JL production. He is also a big fan of Nicole Scherzinger, but as we know, he has always said that Sarah is very special to him. Also, while SB can still dance a bit and definitely 'twerk' a little as well (seen on her last tour), I don't think she would be able to do the choreography in the JL version which involves a lot of running around and writhing/rolling on the floor. I also feel that despite her sensible rehearsal clothes, that she would insist on glamorous gowns, beautiful slippers for the actual show, which wouldn't work in Lloyd's show. If the show going to Broadway was a full scale production like the ENO one, I could certainly see him replacing anyone with Sarah if he thinks she is amazing.

I need the two productions to meet in the middle somewhere in the world.
SUNSET BLVD. vs. Sunset Boulevard. Battle to the death.
I realised today I may be able to pop to Australia to see this (I say pop. I don't want to think of the plane journey...)
If I do see it, you'll be hearing from me.

Ooh that was fab, thanks for sharing. I've seen Tim Draxl in a couple of TV series and didn't realise he could sing until I saw he was cast in this.

The smoothness in Draxl's phrasing really underlines he's indulging in the luxury, while knowing it's on foundations of sand. Well, obviously - that's what the song's about; but after what audiences will know of the promenading recent London version, he really needed to make a virtue of the stationary basking, stewing in your own juice, and goes further than I've heard in many versions by making it seductive. [I've assumed he's not wandering all over the place - we'll see!]
Now let's hear even a snapshot of Sarah Brightman. Hope they're evenly matched.

Any chance of a cast recording?
Or a pro shot?
(Countdown to someone telling us they can’t film it because of the rights. Yep. We know)

I did like his acting, but I´m not a fan of his singing. I get the "BOU[levard]" has a difficult placement, but don´t cut them all short!

A lot of envious uk board members here where its 11.40am and all at work while you get to enjoy the show. Look forward to hearing how the first show went. Happy that this show is getting recognition for own merits, with a luxurious score with genuine showstoppers included, snappy script and can be played as minimalistic or full on old school theatre over the top set spectacular. It's always deserved to step away from the issues at the start and be in its own spotlight.

I’ve seen sunset with Debra Byrne ( the less said the better ) Maria Mercedes who did two shows per week during the original Melbourne run. Maria was everything Debra wasn’t. She sung the score like it was written for her, her acting brilliant Glenn Close in New York at the semi staged concerts at the palace theatre, and still might be on the greatest performances I’ve seen on stage. Now we get to poor Sarah Brightman ( who I saw in Phantom with Michael Crawford ) sadly her voice is shot , her acting is questionable and really brought nothing to the roll. Now in saying that , others around me , loved it. My biggest thing is we will probably never get the new Jamie Lloyd staging that swept London last year, opening New York this year, cause we have gotten this sub par production. I will go back and see it with Silvie and hope for better

Also, how did Sarah Brightman fare with As If We Never Said Goodbye? I'm a big fan for many years now, but can't imagine how she would sing it as there's never anything she's done before that is similar.

Absolutely nothing special staging wise. In fact the coupe de theatre in the act one closer during New Year’s Eve where the mansion rose and the party took place under, this time it was done on the mansion set piece with Norma walking off.
As if we never said goodbye was underwhelming, going back to Glenn Close when that spotlight hit her, Close came alive it was subtle but it was thrilling to see. Sarah looked like she tired and failed. Her biggest problem Is she’s not an actress, the voice what’s to be opera when for this it shouldn’t be. Also it lacked power. With one look suffered the same issues.

She doesn’t look dishevelled enough at the bows! No crazy hair, no smeared lippy, what’s going on?

What a terrible shame. Missed opportunity. I thought she might have been good, if only for over acting it and chewing the scenery.
