Angela Rippon 78!!! She looks amazing and look at those legs. So pleased she is dancing with Kai who is such a gent. Bobby Brazier, what a handsome young lad. Seems like a really nice person. Leyton Williams is going to really annoy me like mad but I think he is going to be a good dancer and his performances will be entertaining.

Well it's back! Unfortunately my TV has died- as has my stereo and my laptop so I had to watch it on the i-Player. Initial thoughts- the judges all look good. I feel that Craig has visibly ages a little ans Motsi looks great- I think she may have lost a little weight Loved the tribute to Len. It was good to the cuddly teddy bear that Hamza is dancing again with Jowita. Anyone else miss Vito's dopey grin? This year they didn't introduce any new pro-dancers however who was the new guy dancing on Craig's right? Speaking of pro-dancers, has anyone noticed that Cameron has left? All the new contestants understandably all looked a little nervous/excited/anxious. There is obviously room to show their stuff, develop and grow. I have no ideas who a handful of those contestants are. I like the pairings. I thought that woman from Coronation Street looked like that Michelle Lee from Glee! Les Dennis, whilst I doth my cap to him for agreeing to take part (sorry, but) he just looks old! That said, I'm prepared to be proven wrong and blown away by his abilities. Is it too early to select favourites? Do you mean Lea Michele? Michele Lee is over 80!

They announced Cameron had left a few months back.
Sad for Nadia to not get a partner, but that means it’s her and the new Greek girl who don’t have partners? Along with Neil obviously
I’m putting an early theoretical bet on Bobby or Zara to win. I’m not saying they looked the best out of the lot, but I think they have enough rhythm to get better and be fan favourites. Nigel Harman looked like he has the hips too!

Why did nobody on the production team notice Anton's bow tie was wonky? Craig should grow old gracefully, rather than try too hard to still look in his 30s. How he's got the nerve to critique anybody's dancing is beyond me. Some of those transitions of his in that group number were just embarrassing. Lovely tribute to Les. Having one of the reveals on top of the O2 was clearly our david's idea. Any hints on what else we can look forward to in the weeks ahead? BurlyBeaR will obviously be rooting for Ellie and Vito. That's a very strong colour you've chosen for your new cape, BB. Cerise, is it? And I'm pleased you found a new use for your old nets. I think one, or both, Angelas could go quite far.

Ah @tallpaul I was also troubled by the bow tie. Bit concerned that you have us paying tribute to 'Les' already though. He struggled but he's not ready to pickle his walnuts yet as the late 'Len' would say !

First week of actual dancing- let's start sorting the wheat from the chaff!
Although no one will leave this week, based upon what we've seen so far, who do we predict will be in the first dance off?

Based on initial impressions, I would say Krishnan could well struggle. I don't see he has a fan base that will vote for him to keep him out of trouble.
Les, on the other hand, probably does have enough fans to keep him safe for a while
But I would say these are the two weakest based on the group dance

Krishnan threw himself into the group dance more than he might have done, but yes fan base could be an issue. Gorka seemed to be pushing and pulling Nikita K into position a lot and Jody didnt look comfortable. Early days though and I imagine the group dance is more challenging for a beginner, with all the issues of hitting marks and avoiding other couples!

I'd think KGM and Les are likely dance off contenders. Jody I think as a paralympian will get enough votes to go a few weeks. Nikita as a younger women who people think should be a good mover if she doesn't dance well and isn't as higher profile as some others could be in a dance off early on.

A paso on week 1??!! Nigel could potentially be a strong dancer so this annoys me that it’s come so early for him.

Dancers of the night?
Nigel was the clear winner. But Amanda really surprised me. That was a very emotional dance.
Annabel was also a surprise
Les, on the other hand, really wasn't.

Some nice surprises, a few disasters and a few outstanding for week one moments. The top half of the leaderboard all seem fairly evenly matched and I can't see many of the stragglers having a huge enough fanbase to upset the odds so far. As expected Ellie and Vito, Nigel and Katja and Leyton and Nikita seem to be the ones to beat.

First time ever I became an armchair critic!
Firstly, what was Tess wearing? And Shirley's shoes?
Some dances were (clearly) better than others.
Some thoughts.
Adam- the grin is incredible but as good (or bad) as he may be. I reckon after a couple of hours one-on-one, that laugh would really get on your nerves!
Angela Rippon- that opening with the chiffon gown and those legs!
I thought Nikita has certain Stacey Solomon quality about her.
Leyton- I'm struggling to warm to him.
Ellie was surprise- I think it's a case of not realising how good she was. Anyone else miss Vito? It's great that he's back!
He gave it a go, and that that's commendable however Les was painful to watch.
Annabelle and Johannes- it think she quite surprised herself.
Bobby- I gotta agree, tuck the bum under!
Krishnan- don't know exactly was that was but he was grinning throughout and the feedback was relatively positive so lets see where his journey takes him.
Amanda was a pleasant surprise- good on her.

A really really good week 1.
Nikita was better than I thought she would be. Krishnan actually wasn’t too bad, and I’m glad to see he’s not the comedy character. I thought a pass on week 1 would be a curse bit Nigel did great. Amanda was brilliant, and hearing the rumours of a fall out with Gio over rehearsals I hope she’s seen the light now. Annabelle was great too, big surprise there, same with Ellie. Layton was very good, but he’s probably the most recently trained out of the lot, I feel it’s very unfair. Nigel had training when he was younger but said he hadn’t danced for 20 years. Bobby is just an absolute natural and will probably be the fan favourite/front runner for most of it. Jody really surprised me too, I thought he would be awkward and awful. Angela Scanlon has got a lot of potential, and as she was near the beginning I thought she would be quite high up, but then the levels just went up and up after her. I thought Zara did well, but again so many ended up being better. I think the 3 from Craig was harsh. Eddie was mid level but will most likely improve. Angela Rippon did great for someone of her age, but she’s going to struggle on so many dances. Adam won’t last too long. Les might go next week.

I don't think there has ever been a show 1 where 7 of the couples scored 28 or above. The standard did seem higher than ususal.

Rylan is a MASSIVE miss on it takes two 😢. I know it’s Fleurs first show but I’m not keen.

Rylan is a MASSIVE miss on it takes two 😢. I know it’s Fleurs first show but I’m not keen. Maybe for you. I'm not missing the awful gushing and constant interrupting one iota. Fleur's a much better interviewer, at least she listens and lets the guests complete a sentence. If Janette finds some new adjectives and quits calling everything "iconic" it might be quite watchable.

Dances for week 2
Adam and Luba: Tango to Somebody Told Me by Måneskin
Amanda and Giovanni: Salsa to Oye by Gloria Estefan
Annabel and Johannes: Quickstep to Walking On Sunshine by Katrina & The Waves
Angela R and Kai: Foxtrot to You Make Me Feel So Young by Frank Sinatra
Angela S and Carlos: Jive to Trouble by Shampoo
Bobby and Dianne: Charleston to Do Your Thing by Basement Jaxx
Eddie and Karen: Cha Cha Cha to Rie y Llora by Celia Cruz
Ellie and Vito: Foxtrot to Perfect Fairground by Attraction
Jody and Jowita: Paso Doble to Thunderstruck by AC/DC
Krishnan and Lauren: Foxtrot to Love Really Hurts Without You by Billy Ocean
Layton and Nikita: Quickstep to Puttin’ On The Ritz by Gregory Porter
Les and Nancy: Samba to Rock The Boat by Hues Corporation
Nigel and Katya: Viennese Waltz to Until I Found You by Stephen Sanchez
Nikita and Gorka: Charleston to Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It) by Beyoncé
Zara and Graziano: Quickstep to Anyone For You (Tiger Lily) by George Ezra
We really shouldn't have Charlestons in week 2
Giving Les a Samba shows they think he is vulnerable.

Interesting that Nigel and Katja have the only waltz of the night with a new(ish) song that's never featured on Strictly before. Granted it sounds like it's been around since the 50s, but popular new songs in waltz time are rare these days. It's almost guaranteed to stand out from the crowd, just like last week's Paso Doble did.

I was interested to see that story a while ago about Les Dennis posting his song list on social media instead of sending it to his agent. It just set me wondering how many of the songs the couples dance to are from the celebrity's wishlist.
