Don't forget there's usually one or two unannounced in reserve.
Look at the year that Jamie did that damage to his ankle first show and Kelvin had to step in and then went on to win the bloody thing!

They can go with 14 or 15 one I agree maximum of one more to come, Kelvin was drafted in at short notice when Jamie got injured but I cannot recall there being other reserve/standby contrestants ever mentioned unless they then use them the next year if they are still available. Kelvin had been a soap regular for 20 years so was probably more well known than alot of other contestants so only to have him as a reserve would have been strange. Possibly the reserves are only on standby for first few weeks and then if not needed just stop doing the training?
Nigel Harman has long been rumoured so no great surprise and he is a well known name in BBC shows. I did suggest Annabel Croft as a possible long shot when Wimbledon was on as her husband had only passed away a few months earlier and she'd be a good "redemption" story. But I thought maybe this year was too soon so to see her announced is a nice surprise. She is still in great physical shape and has always been very elegant so I can see her being good at the ballroom element and might be a dark horse to go far deeper in the run than you'd expect from a lady in her mid/late 50's.

Les Dennis is confirmed as the final contestant Yes, heard this on the radio this morning whilst having a bagel for breakfast. At the risk of sounding ageist, I do wonder how the older contestants will cope with the complexities and physicalities of the Latin dances. I mean, Kudos to them for putting themselves out there and having a go. Obviously, I wish them the best, but I do wonder....

I wonder too. I saw Les Dennis in 42nd Street last week and he didn't look particularly good on his feet when walking.

Just because they're on the television or stage, in that regards, they're no different than the rest of us. And I guess (God forbid) if there were a fall, it's better to do so on the ground, than on the ice in that other show that shan't be mentioned and run the risk of breaking a hip!

It'll be all about who's teamed up with which pro, as nobody from this line-up is likely to set the screen alight on first impressions.

Often the older women seem to go out very early but I could sadly see Les being an early casualty as I think Angela Rippon is a bit of an icon and despite being 78 can still move very well.
Angela Rippon did Dancing On Ice when she was well over 65 years old but injuries there have hit all ages.
Angela will be the oldest contestant ever on Strictly I think, off the top of my head Paul Daniels may have been previous oldest he was 72 when he did it, Lesley Joseph was pushing 70 when she did it too.

Zara McDermott confirmed so the contestant who they maybe hope will get romantically involved with a pro dancer is now on board. She has a famous boyfriend, the producers certainly aren’t trying to make her fall under the strictly curse.

Launch show is 23rd September. Seems quite late, especially as they don’t get rid of someone until week 3, there must be a few double eliminations.

Based on the info I’ve seen, the first elimination is the second weekend, so Sat 30th (broadcast Sun 1st Oct). That’s standard if all couples have danced in the first show so assume that’s the plan. Just need confirmation of when the launch/pairing show will be shown. Hoping that’ll be on Sat 9th… 🤞🏻

I submitted my application on the BBC website yesterday -10 years in a row (or more) with no success to date- and the first show ticket were available for was 23rd September 2023.

Yes, 23rd Sept is the first live show. The launch show is being filmed on 6th Sept and so my best guess at the moment is it’ll be shown on Sat 9th. It could be the 16th of course but chances are by then the pairings will have leaked somewhere so makes sense to show it fairly shortly after recording.

I'd imagine launch show would be 9th September as the pairings will be out online pretty much after it is filmed if you know where to look. But leaving it another week would mean it was likely in mainstream press.

Looks like launch show will be Sat 16th Sept, as it’s not on the schedules for next Saturday evening sadly.

Well it's back!
Unfortunately my TV has died- as has my stereo and my laptop so I had to watch it on the i-Player.
Initial thoughts- the judges all look good. I feel that Craig has visibly ages a little ans Motsi looks great- I think she may have lost a little weight
Loved the tribute to Len.
It was good to the cuddly teddy bear that Hamza is dancing again with Jowita.
Anyone else miss Vito's dopey grin?
This year they didn't introduce any new pro-dancers however who was the new guy dancing on Craig's right? Speaking of pro-dancers, has anyone noticed that Cameron has left?
All the new contestants understandably all looked a little nervous/excited/anxious.
There is obviously room to show their stuff, develop and grow.
I have no ideas who a handful of those contestants are. I like the pairings.
I thought that woman from Coronation Street looked like that Michelle Lee from Glee! Les Dennis, whilst I doth my cap to him for agreeing to take part (sorry, but) he just looks old! That said, I'm prepared to be proven wrong and blown away by his abilities.
Is it too early to select favourites?
