That's not what is happening. There was a surge of negativity towards Layton last week, some of it from Angela fans taking her exit out on him, some from viewers who've always objected to Layton's previous dance experience and some from actual homophobic bigots who have just been waiting for the chance to unleash. The latter of these examples is really happening and you don't have to search far (FB, X) to find it. "Not being a Layton fan" is fine - enjoy other contestants and vote for them instead. But targeting Layton personally for a lot of stuff out of his control - i.e., the judges' choice of who to save, Nikita's choreography, etc - is uncalled for and misplaced I feel. Plus it has the side effect of emboldening a bunch of truly nasty people who'll jump at the opportunity to aim online abuse a queer celebrity. And it's not just trolls on the internet but news outlets like GB-news (not exactly known for being queer friendly) who will gleefully amplify that animosity. I also don't think it's fair to accuse Layton of "whining" or "playing the victim" when he didn't actually say anything about it on Saturday night. Motsi and Nikita decided to speak out and that was mostly just to commended Layton for NOT falling into a victim mentality. It may not be everyone's experience, but when I talk about Layton a few people assume I'm homophobic or being nasty, when I'm just not a fan. I don't think he whines at all, he's been very stoic and professional. It isn’t necessarily Layton himself that speaks out about it. It’s the way that it has been zeroed in on by the show and become his ‘storyline’. They’re making television after all.

I like Layton (I wasn't sure at first I admit, I thought he was a bit shouty, but he's definitely won me over), and think his family seem lovely.
But I don't want Nikita to "Laytonise" the dances, I want Layton to learn how to do them properly! I think it's probably too late now.
The judges are inconsistent as well, which is annoying. I think even if he'd fallen over this week they'd still have given him 40... The beginning of that paso was definitely not in sync, whatever Shirley said.

Nikita wants to win so badly that he is throwing every trick in the book at it.
And you can hardly blame him. Winning would boost his long term earning potential and he would be a fool not to want it.
But that said, he should have put more time in on perfecting the basics.
The paso wasn't together in places. Perhaps it was during rehearsals and I have long suspected that some of the comments are written ahead of the live show.
Layton can dance. No one is really questioning that. But he started as a good dancer with a long list of dance related credits. He is ending a better dancer with new tricks.
That isn't as good a journey as Ellie who has very little performance experience beyond Corrie.
And voters like a journey

So nobody is telling Nikita that he and his partner are at the bottom of the public vote every week? Really?

So nobody is telling Nikita that he and his partner are at the bottom of the public vote every week? Really? Of course they are aware of how they are being perceived. There might be a lot of denial going on. But they can't be unaware given that they ended up in a dance off

I think they are just doing what they love, making their dances less formal and more styled- knowing that they weren't going to get the public votes anyway.

I'd assume Layton and Nikita know where they are in the public voting, one look at how the bookies rate them would spell this out otherwise they would stick their series earnings on themselves given their price vs their performance level.
Layton got a lower score for himself the Saturday before last and fell one place into the bottom two and suddenly it is a reaction like when Take That split up the first time. It happened to Pasha and Ashley when they were topping the leader board and ending up in dance off and the same with Fleur last year.
Its just how the public vote goes no voting on colour, nationality, sexuality etc.

Annabel was undermarked for her VW compared to the other scores.
Her Latin, on the other hand, was overmarked.
I fear she won't make it to the final as Bobby has suddenly become flavour of the month.
Layton doing the Charleston well came as no surprise. But it wasn't perfect. There were coordination issues a couple of times and it was too frenetic for my taste.
Vito in his tight trousers rather distracted me during the cha cha cha...

I agree with oxfordsimon that Annabel and Johannes were absolutely undermarked for their Viennese Waltz. The judges gave such high praise and no criticism but then gave scores of 8?! It makes no sense. Layton and Nikita in their Charleston were amazing! Absolutely deserved 40 and they deserve a place in the final. Bobby to leave in my opinion.

Totally agree with the above posters, Annabel and Johannes were so under marked. Their Viennese waltz was lovely.

It just depends who ends up in the dance off. It looks likely that Annabel will end up in the dance off even if she won the public vote. If so she will likely leave unfortunately.

My mum is convinced Annabel was undermarked and the Beeb don't want her in the final. If she survives she'll have to avoid the dance off.
If she wins public vote I don't think she can be in the dance off as points for the public vote take preference to judges' votes to break the tie.

Assuming the public vote follows the pattern that emerged over recent weeks, it is possible we will see
1st - Ellie 2nd - Annabel 3rd - Bobby 4th - Layton
Which would give a combined position of
1st - Ellie 2nd - Layton Joint 3rd - Annabel and Bobby
Pure speculation on my part
But it does seem probable

Yes I see that as at the moment in simple terms if: Judges Public Total Layton 4 1 5 Ellie 3 3 6 Bobby 2 2 4 Annabel 1 4 5 If the above happens it would be Layton v Bobby in the dance off... we will see.But likely to be above result as Ellie always seems to win the public vote.

Very sad to see Annabelle go, but it did feel like her time.
Ellie is always undermarked, it's very frustrating.

If Annabel had won public Vote I think the only way she could have been in the dance off was if Bobby had been bottom and Ellie 2nd in the public vote and Layton 3rd.
Gives :- Ellie 6 Layton 6 Annabel 5 Bobby 3

I do wonder if Strictly could solve their withdrawal issue which TBF is limited by adding one more celebrity? That way you cover for four in the final and you could then have either an extra week or a double eviction.

That way you cover for four in the final and you could then have either an extra week or a double eviction. They have had 16 celebs some years and started with two groups of 8 the opening two weeks. They likely factor in one withdrawl each year but two stretches it a bit and Nigel going late in the competition meant they were too late to switch to a two person final. I've never heard they have standby contestants early on like say Dancing On Ice does. We don't know when the contracts are signed or if some people might get other work and having been approached or made an offer then decline it.

That one from emmerdale who won it with Oti was a standby who had like a few days rehearsal before the first show.

They could still have a bad day on Saturday and lose it. But it seems unlikely
