Agree with the above points. Poor Nigel needs a better poker face. Craig said Ellie’s dance was one of the best he’d seen yet gave her a 9, what does she have to do. Loved Annabel and Johannes, just beautiful. I haven’t rated Annabel at all up until last night, but that was absolutely gorgeous. No idea who goes, but I hope it isn’t her.

Great farewell speech by la Rippon. Angela should be paid a huge sum to teach Tess how to fake sincerity that well. The whole nation cringes every time she opens her gob.

I was looking at what Angela R was wearing and wondered how may ostrich's were sacrificed!

Thing is I can’t imagine anyone else doing it. It’s like she’s part of the fabric of the show. Imagine if it were some rotten comedian trying to make it all about them.

I know a lot of people can’t stand him, but the majority love him and he is very good at his job. I can’t watch it takes two anymore now he’s gone.

I never worked out how Tess got this gig in the first place. She'd done bits for the Big Breakfast and some red carpet stuff and wasn't she one of the many presenters they tried when Ant, Dec and Cat left SMTV. She'd done some modelling before that been in a few pop videos but nothing major. She had quietly knocked a few years off her age which only came out truthfully when her husband posted a picture of her in a bikini on social media with a tag line someging like "Not bad for 47" when Tess had always claimed to be a couple of years younger.
I'd have always thought they would have wanted someone who could dance to have been Brucie's co-host or he may have requested that. Also Tess wasn't the most dynamic of presenters so couldn't step in right away if Brucie lost his flow or immediately react to him if he decided to ad lib or want off script. But she has been there since day one bar a couple of maternity breaks, she always looks great and seems a nice enough person and I've always quite liked her.
Plus she only does that one show each year so she isn't on our screens too much outside of that. So she clearly knows she's got a good gig and just sticks with it. I'm sure a lot of the model/presenter influx from the lad mags era looked at Tess with jealousy that she got this role but she got it and they didn't so she's the one who is laughing.

I don't think the BBC would give the presenting of this show to Rylan. Tess is easier to take than Claudia, at least she doesn't make it about herself.

Nothing to do with him as a person, I just don’t think he would be the right fit for it and I don’t see it as likely happening. Just my opinion.

It's mad because I've never met anyone who likes Tess as host, the way she talks, gushes over everything...

As regards Rylan I think he'd be a great contestant from an entertainment standpoint with his reactions and being so lanky. Whether he'd have a male or female partner I don't know. I think he'd be funnier with a woman actually.
I can think of a lot of female presenters who are more gushy than Tess, one of my pet hates with her is how she prounounces "come" and it would be a real passion killer between her and Vern.
There are presenters out there who could have done a better job than Tess but most are male and a few have now passed away. Tess has been a constant on the show and we associate her so much with it that I'd not want her to leave or be replaced.

I don’t know what it is about Strictly but it does seem to bring the worst out in women berating women; the hosts, judges & contestants all get ripped apart in a way that the men simply don’t (and men don’t seem to do). It is most unusual. (I’m using my Mum and a chat group she left as my main basis, but seeing comments on here and in the press from other women about other women just cemented my opinion.).

I imagine when they were choosing Bruce’s sidekick they were looking for a “type”. He spent his career working with attractive but bland female Co-hosts who would never take the spotlight off him. That seems misogynistic now but the world has changed a lot in the 20 years since she got the gig and I suppose evidence of that is in her getting the main hosting role when BF left.

Vito's Instagram page has some great rehearsal footage from last week's Charleston. Those lifts were not achieved without considerable pain. Mainly his!

Some very odd choices of music there
I Will Survive doesn't scream Cha Cha
It's All So Quiet doesn't fit anything that works in Ballroom. So that will just be another CC/Show dance with little reference to the core technique
I don't any AT vibes from the Destiny Child number
On the other hand Johannes and Annabelle have an absolutely iconic track for a Paso. It makes it so much easier to work with the music.
The Celine should be fine for a Rumba. Let's hope for an error free performance.
Looks like Bobby and Dianne might be referencing his mum in what could be a moving contemporary dance. We will have to wait on that one.

In the listing of inadequate cover versions, Maxwell's This Women's Work is close to the top but yes probably supposed to invoke his mother's death.

I find Maxwells’ TWW to be one of the most beautiful and affecting covers ever. I think it’ll be gorgeous and horribly manipulative. More importantly, it’ll keep him in; whereas Angela is being sold down the river being given a Cha-Cha. She’s obviously been chosen as the next to go. Scripted reality strikes again.

Awful music choices, I think Nigel may be in trouble.
Rumbas are my least favourite dance, and don't get the votes generally.

Given that It's All Coming Back to Me Now is almost seven minutes long (well the Jeremy Jordan cover is, and it's the only version worth hearing) , how do you condense that into 90 seconds?

Given that It's All Coming Back to Me Now is almost seven minutes long (well the Jeremy Jordan cover is, and it's the only version worth hearing) , how do you condense that into 90 seconds? They're doing the Celine Dion version - which is 7 and a half minutes in the video of it! That said, I've just gone and taken a look, and they will probably use something from the first 3 and a half minutes. A solid 60 seconds of that is what the late great Len Goodman would have referred to as 'faffing around', meaning you've got something like 2 minutes 40 to cut into a 90 second track. Do-able, but expect a sudden shift part way through as a bit of the melody gets butchered out... Agree with others - looks like Nigel and Angela S are getting thrown to the wolves this week.

I fully agree with the comment about using a 7 minute plus rock opera type song and cutting it down to 90 seconds. Looking at the bookies odds they still have Nigel 2nd favourite behind Ellie who seems a lock to win it according to them. Then it is Layton 3rd favourite followed by Bobby with Angela S and Annabel as the joint outsiders.
Of these 6 only Bobby has been in the bottom 2. I don't see Ellie falling into the bottom 2, Layton will always be top or very near top of the leaderboard and if he didn't get the public vote and was in the dance off then his opponent would be toast. Bobby if he is doing couples choice and there will be memories of his late mother who I don't think has been mentioned in the series yet is likely to get a strong public vote and possible rebound from last week.
Nigel didn't score well but the bookies seem to think he has public support but the judges just vote on dancing ability so unless he does a very strong dance he'll need his public support. Angela S was very strong last week but it doesn't seem an ideal musical choice for her dance this week as posters have mentioned above.
Annabel is probably the lowest profile celeb left but has the "story" of doing the show only a few months after her husband's tragic early passing. Add in the fact that Johannes is very popular and they have perfect music for their dance so might be safe for another week.
If Nigel is in the dance off he goes, but if it is any combo of Annabelle, Angela S and Bobby then any of them could go this week. If Layton somehow slips into the dance off this week then bar Ellie whoever is against him goes. This is where Amanda pulling out really comes into play as she'd have been right in the stay/go mix now.
I'm still sticking with Ellie to win, Layton and another to make the final. I've nothing against any of the other 4 as they are all likeable so whoever the 3rd person is I wouldn't mind.
