I was in the audience for the filming of this (albeit at the giddy heights of the top tier of the Arena) It was a really good night out (if a bit long with all the retakes of Jason Manford's links) and some great performances. Jason also performed a song from The Greatest Showman with a children's choir which I enjoyed. Looking forward to seeing how it's been edited as there were several cringy moments during the links.

Looking forward to this. The Newsies number will be interesting as Bronte Barbe is not in King of New York (from what I remember) so wonder how they incorporate her into the number.

She is in King of New York Thanks. Must be having a senior moment and, in my defence, I did write the last post very late at night after 3 hours of opera 😀 I can picture her now at the beginning of the tap number but I mainly remember the boys tapping and dancing on the tables.

There is a subsidised scheme being announced on Monday morning off the back of this in which people can (very straightforwardly) claim a free £25 Theatre Token to spend at participating venues (current list is approx 200 venues)

No, you can use the voucher at any of the registered venues taking part in the scheme - it's around 220 venues at the last list we had through (essentially anywhere you can use Theatre Tokens, you can use this voucher)

I could definitely do with a Theatre Token - I’m majorly missing the o2 priority offer that ran for a while!

Is it just me or at the lyrics being swamped in the sound balance?
It isn't easy to pick out stuff at times.
I am not sure if it is the balance or diction

Could hardly hear the Matilda numbers. Also the edit and direction of the cameras is awful. Has the director never been in a theatre? Continual zoomed out shots of the arena, the audience, moving shots, missing heads, limbs cut out of screen. The camera doesn't stay still long enough to focus on the actors on stage.

It definitely sounded better in the Arena. I didn't struggle to hear the lyrics and I was up in the top tier

Yes matilda and half of Six were inaudible.
WWRY and King and I came over very well
Nathania being incredible yet again. She needs to be much more well known and get some bigger roles

I was ok with Matilda as I know the lyrics but struggled with Six. Also, a pet gripe of mine, applauding On My Own before she had even finished singing.

The audience is driving me up the wall. I know it's a celebration of musical theatre (and they're no doubt encouraged to look enthusiastic because they're on telly), but all I can see is dancing, singing, phones out, arm waving etc. I'm willing to bet half that lot will end up in the Bad Behaviour thread at some time in the not too distant future!

If I was in the cast of Newsies I'd be mighty pissed off that the amateurish camera work and horrific editing have made a good, well staged number look awful. BBC are so bad at filming any kind of dance these days.

Melody was amazing
I think this is really good on the whole, it's selling quite a few shows to me.
Could do without the filler bits and Jason manford though

They spent a good 45 minutes hyping it all up before filming started.

BBC are so bad at filming any kind of dance these days. Agree. Cameras allover the place. Didn't sell it well. But also there wasn't the space on the stage to perform the number as it should be. Hopefully they can redeem themselves at the Oliviers.
