Wasn’t this announced for the Gillian Lynne after the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe? I thought this was great watching the NT Live broadcast, so might consider seeing it on stage. Just scooped by Baz, not officially confirmed yet.

I enjoyed the flying sequences, which were a huge step up from the first film but everything else left me rather cold. The romantic subplot with Jennifer Connelly felt like a waste of her talents. In an ideal world, we should have had Kelly McGillis back but this time as Maverick’s ex who is a ball-breaking lesbian colleague! Also, this one isn’t dripping in homoeroticism like the first one, sadly. Darn! So no hot beach volleyball scene?? So disappointed 😆 There’s a hot beach rugby scene but the general underlying sexual tension is not there. No locker room posturing. Tom doesn’t even try to kiss Jon Hamm. As if that would happen in real life?!

He would if he really wanted to play the part and valued the contribution he could make to a theatre industry struggling post-Covid. They'd get the press back in to watch him, so it's not like he'd go unnoticed. Not necessarily a wholly accurate comparison but Roger Allam went in to La Cage AFTER Graham Norton, also third cast Really? I don't think so, he would still be helping the industry to go into something else, something new. The press being back is not the same thing as being the opening cast, no build up, no awards. It just wasn't going to happen. I still think it's the sort of thing he'd really love to do. I bet he'd rather do it now than wait for the next revival. Only sticking by the conditions for playing a part that you mention, I think would be pretty shallow for any actor. And as discussed recently on another thread (or maybe it was this one), you can get nominated for a takeover.

What happened to Daniel Radcliffe? He's a huge star, I could never see him going in as third cast. I saw a local MP in a nightclub on Saturday. I live in Brighton. There was leather involved. I’ll say n’more.

She played Glinda on the international tour of Wicked After reading the blurb about her on the CFT website, I realise that I've actually seen her in FOUR things! She was wonderful in Xanadu at Southwark Playhouse, I just wouldn't have been able to tell you her name.

If you can sit on the decision for a while, Southbury is playing at Chichester prior to London and that’s where it’s press night will be. So you’d be able to see the reviews around mid-June, which might help your decision-making. Jack reviews won’t be until a few weeks afterwards.

Welll....what abour a limited run at the Old Vic as there is nothing booked between "Jitney" and "Christmas Carol" and the Old Vic housed the Chichester production of "Kiss Me Kate" so must be same size stage wise and have already a past link with the theatre. Not going to happen. Orient Express is a commercial show and the Old Vic has a new programme to announce soon I am enjoying everyone mentioning random theatres without a clue about how small they are. Harold Pinter! Criterion! Arts! Southwark Playhouse! My living room! Knowing how we know you, I’d be very surprised if your living room was smaller than the Southwark Playhouse. Swimming pool, sauna & room for a pony, I’d imagine!

Cheers that makes sense. So Isaac is happy to use any of those pronouns when described. I've seen some non binary people have he/them or she/them as their pronouns but Isaac's is a new one on me. I've always tried to keep up with all the different definitions but when there are now numerous genders I get totally lost. I get to LGBT, understand non-binary but Queer now having a different meaning to the overarching or some would say offensive term ( I don't see it as offensive as it has been used for titles of events like Queerfest) and with it becoming LGBTQI it takes a while for me in my early 50's to get my head around let alone older people. I wouldn’t go so far as to say ‘Queer’ now has a different meaning, it’s the way that it’s been appropriated in today’s LGBT culture. Some gay men are still offended deeply by the word, mainly due to it being used as a metaphorical stick to beat them with for many a year. I’ll hasten to add that I don’t fall into this category, however I am often dubious as to how casually people adopt the word to describe themselves (instead of perhaps ‘bisexual’) and think it may have now taken on an element of social status significance, particularly amongst younger adults. I’d like to also to add, I’m completely fine with humans playing animals to keep costs down. Unless they’re doing it just to win an Olivier.

I never get the comment sections from either side. Don't these people have better things to do with their time? Technically, Ncuti won't be the first non white actor to have played the Doctor, that honour goes to Jo Martin. Lol says the person writing on another discussion forum. Its the same principle, people wanting to share their thoughts and opinions on something. There would be plenty who would class posting on this forum as a waste of time I think Jon was referring to trolling, not a balanced discussion. Of which we have plenty on here, never rubbing each other up the wrong way 😇

Oh God, I’d never give them that satisfaction, the racist cnuts. Funnily, you get quite a few Guardian types commenting on DM stories, in the same way you get DM trolls commenting on the Guardian. The point I was alluding to is that, despite their biased reporting on many things, I don’t think even they would get away with being snarkily “anti-woke” when reporting this. It’s a good actor getting a deserved part. They didn’t complain that Denzel Washington was too black to play Macbeth. It just seems a bit lazy to pre-empt they’re going to be horrible about it. Saying that, I’ll likely be proved horribly wrong by a vicious Jan Moir piece in the coming days. Especially if the new companion turns out to be Keir Starmer playing non-binary.

I think the plan for a while now has been for a Cinema release in the UK and on Netflix in other countries. I've got a feeling it's playing UK cinemas exclusively for 3 weeks and then dropping on Netflix on 23rd Dec. So, similar to other Netflix films which get a cinema release (usually awards contenders) but usually only in select cinemas, I think Matilda will get a full-blown roll out nationwide.

We’ve got tickets for the evening and haven’t received an e-mail. On the website, the matinee is listed as ‘tickets not on sale’ but the evening says ‘sold out’ which implies the evening is still going ahead. This is what the email said “ Due to positive COVID-19 cases in the cast we have unfortunately had to cancel the matinee performance of “Daddy” A Melodrama on Saturday 23 April. We are really sorry for the inconvenience this causes.” Maybe they have someone to cover for the evening and not the matinee? Hopefully. Or maybe they need that bit extra rehearsal time. I dunno. It’s frustrating as I’m getting ready to leave Brighton for a day in London so it would good to know sooner rather than later.

There isn’t anything online saying this, how have you found out about it? I had a ticket for the matinee on the 23rd and received an email from Almeida last night. I assume the evening performance will be cancelled too. We’ve got tickets for the evening and haven’t received an e-mail. They could fly somebody in to cover one person if necessary though, couldn’t they? I know that’s what other theatres have done.

I was there Saturday and would echo the previous posters who liked it. Not quite as subtle in its punches as KCIII (if you can call that subtle) and I’m not sure how much the critics will like it but it was really entertaining. Carvel was a marvel.

Do you mind explaining this, I’m not sure what you mean? When you enter the auditorium the ushers hand out stickers (like in Cabaret) that you are supposed to put on your phone's camera. I assume it's to ensure nobody takes pics of the cast during the extended nudity Ooooh, I see. Surprisingly, mine’s always turned off in my pocket. I’m not planning on diverting my eyes away from the nudity for one second, so I certainly won’t be prepping my phone to take any pictures.
