so on a technical note, about our beloved staircase, when it was not being used presumably is just was pushed upstage. How deep was it when it was all folded up. The mechanics are mind boggling. Backstage, when folded up, it’s only as deep as one of the levels the ensemble dance on. The staircase goes in to each other just to form a large rectangle! Clever way to save space! I presume when it’s being set ready to go, they plug in a power cable to light it up or maybe the power some how comes through the tracks in the deck!

And I think they are doing something with the stage as loads of people keep getting injured on it. Will try and find out more later! You do realise that the stage for BAT isn’t the theatre stage right?every show that goes in there puts their own floor in. It is raised up by a few feet (bit like areas stage), whereas normally just a metal grid put flat on the floor with the show deck top.

One of the ushers today said that there is going to be a bit of a refurbishment of the Dominion after Bat closes, so that would fit in with this timeline brilliantly! As I understand it they want to renovate some of the stage features that have prevented some big productions coming in in the past. They have attempted to get some big productions/producers to pay for these changes as part of their rental deals in the near past (one very rich American production company came close with a big transfer but then went elsewhere) but the owners are now accepting the venue itself will need to pay to bring it in-line with the needs of big modern shows. What are the stage features preventing the big productions and hindering the stage?

Any page mentioning “Panto Will Return” this year? We already know it will, but just wondering since they did this last year. Yes they is - with fairy dust coming from a picture of the Pladium making me think Peter Pan is the next panto. Went Friday. Still fantastic but agree it needs refreshing as some aspects are getting stale. The only new stars this time were Vincent and Flavia -utterly pointless to the plot, even Diversity said a couple of lines and the underused Danielle Hope and the dwarfs.
Was the page similar to last year? like this? goo.gl/images/EkmpVn

Just got my pre-visit email from Eventim for tomorrow. Are security and food/drink restrictions really as strict as they say? (It sounds like an email for a gig - no food / drink at all, full body scanning etc...) To answer my own question security was horrible. No queue when I got there but setup like festival entry. Metal detector on entry with a tray for mobile phone and keys. I got the unhelpful command ‘bags’ which upon requesting clarification meant ‘if you wouldn’t mind awfully could you please place your bags atop this tray so I can have a good old rummage and remove your canned beverage which surely to Betsy you knew was a sin to possess’. They let me keep the contents of my can in one of their cups though which was nice. No cast board or interest in advising if it was a full cast from front of house, just an assumption that it was full cast. £10 for a programme with mr Dyer’s smug mug getting a full page didn’t appeal to me either. My seat was amazing. One of the first lot of restricted view side stalls but other than the tall guy in front and the occasional living room piece of set it was perfect. Show was as lovely as I remember. I adore Simon Lipkin. I hope he is in the next tour as it is finally coming to Southampton! The longer run this year was always going to make it a harder sell but I think inserting 3 names compared to 1 last year was too much. As well as a daughter there was added back story and a song for the Hollywood producer. Patricia burns. Well, yes. Jo was fine but not needed. Simon or the kids deserve the final bow. The kids were fab, I don’t think I’ll ever work out how many kids are actually in Mr Madden’s class but I thinks it’s 10 most of the time! 16 in Me Shakespeare’s class I think. Another change I noticed was the ‘tattle’ is now the male PE teacher rather than a female. He has snigger moment of redemption than I remember too. This ended up longer than I intended! So glad you enjoyed this! To answer a few of your questions ; - Simon Lipkin is confirmed to be returning for the Tour and London Stint next year - I agree that he was a real asset to the show in general ! - The more featured kids are all Mr Madden’s Class, however when quick changes happen for the children, a few Oakmoor kids stand in to give the kids a little rest. I worked this out since a girl arrived in an assembly scene with blue uniform but a red scrunchie in her hair! Oakmoor children are used heavily at the end “performance” segment of the show to beef up the numbers! Did anyone notice that during Sparkle and Shine this year, the giant stairs for the adults was lost? I wonder why? Finally, it’s amazing how the band is only 5 people! Obviously lots of pre recorded music is used and pre recorded vocals for the kids in ensemble songs. Overall, a great show!

I swear the St James’ is much smaller? Won’t the wonderful depth of the stage be wasted?

It could be used to record TV programmes like Michael Mackintire which is currently recorded at Drury Lane and with it closing for referb in Jan would need a home. Britain's Got Talent have used it the last few years for the London auditions too. Perhaps a Vegas style residency could be next in line for the Dominion? I have often wondered why London theatres haven’t investigated the possibility of this. I’m sure there are a number of stars who could sell out 50 shows in a 2,000 capacity theatre over the space of a year. BGT have used the Palladium more recently and are using the theatre in late Jan for London Auditions.

Just seen a video of the curtain call, love that Charlie gets the final bow again, even though Danielle is the title character. We all love a bit of the Stemp. 😊 Where is this video ?

Enjoyed my first pantomime as an adult this afternoon, although did feel rather too young to be there as the average age was about 70. Can’t report on the standing experience as a kind couple heard me asking where to stand and offered me a Stalls seat. Don’t think anyone ended up standing (at least not in the area I was pointed to behind the Stalls), so they must try and help people find seats if possible. Apart from that, it seemed very full and the audience loved Julian Clary. Just as well there were no obvious kids in attendance (despite lots of tongue in cheek “boys and girls” from the cast), as there was lots of smut and a bit of swearing, particularly during a funny tongue twister sequence. Some odd bits of variety (like a low rent gymnastics routine), but generally it all held together. Everything also assumed you knew Snow White and the could skip the majority of the plot (I would say “ad lib” around the plot. but I rather think most of the lines, the corpsing, even audience interaction was scripted). The other thing that seemed rather out of place was the dwarves. They were barely in the plot and there roles could have been skipped as easily as other parts. Plus, I’m sure I nearly fell over one of them when he was messing about in the foyer at another show a year or so ago. But they did well for what their role was. The other strange part. A badly acted sequence with kids pretending to read “rude” lines after the pantomime had finished. I presume they split the dates so they probably haven’t been on much yet and hopefully get better. I notice they played a very controversial song during the interval too! Anyway, a good variety show, very British. I can see why people go back every year. Almost tempted to see a “normal” pantomime too to give me something to compare it with. Is there a Dwarfs’ House in the show? What does it look like? What Effects flys?

Seen some quick vids of the set on the socials today...
Have to say, not liking it at the moment and definitely a let down since the previous years.
However, it was one quick vid and I reckon it was the Finale/Walkdown so I can’t really judge it upon that.

The house Dreamgirls has been waiting for on Broadway is finally open. So, if the stars line up correctly it might not be gone for long but, you have to get to New York. May I ask which theatre?

MTAS has posted on Instagram that this is returning in 2019. Is this true? If so, where would it go? Haymarket has only Fools and Horses! We've been discussing this for the last 3 pages... Whoops! Sorry )

I guess because this is the final time this tour is going around, they’re willing to spend more money on it. If this is the last time, what will happen to the set?

Could Little Shop transfer? When I saw it, I thought they would be hoping for a transfer. It seemed like too big a production for it just to be in place for 6wks, with all of the changes they made too you’d think they’d want it to be seen wider. I also noticed that Vicky Vox now has a UK agent too which suggests she’ll be doing more work over here. I don’t know what sort of theatre it would go into though or for what sort of run. How about the Dominion? Feels like it could fit there quite well!!
