Can’t wait! Do we know when exactly the pre-sale is? Signed up but judging by the recent experience the links are so unreliable.. better know the exact time and date in advance. ATG + is 10am on Wed 18th Oct. Presale that day also, probably 12pm as per Love Theatre. General sale 12pm on Fri 20th Oct.

That's a long run! Obviously confident they have another smash on their hands. It’s going to be a smash, let’s face it. Great scoop!

Wonder if it will be Southwark playhouse or somewhere bigger... I could imagine this going to the Ambassadors in March

No Motive and the Cue which is a shame, hopefully they will announce that for later next year, because I was there the day they were filming it. Glad to get a chance to see Vanya.

There was a feature on the show this morning on BBC Breakfast around 6.45am, which I think is on the iplayer for 24 hours.

I'm guessing dates for The Motive and the Cue and Dear England. I wonder what else? Jamie LLoyd has form for NT Live with Cyrano and The Seagull. Wouldn't it be great to get Sunset Boulevard?!

I wonder what this will be like. I have visions of a middle of the road BBC sitcom or something like the Queen & I by Sue Townsend. On one hand it could be quite a safe comedy but then again the writer's play "Feeling Afraid as if Something Terrible is Going to Happen" with Sam Barnett got fantastic reviews so maybe we're in for something with a bit more bite.

My friend and I have decided to hold off. £65 for the back row was just too much at the moment. It's outrageous.

It's just so crap that everyone has to resort to getting seats at the sides and at the back.
Why should we all put up with being priced out of getting a half decent seat anymore?

Prices are nuts for an off West End venue. Ridiculous.

I am hearing that an extension announcement may be coming soon. A significant extension or are talking just a few weeks up to Christmas? Not sure but an announcement is coming this week apparently

Ade, we had the same itinerary yesterday because I was also at the matinee yesterday and I agree with you. I liked this -there is much to admire - but I didn't love it. I think this was because I wasn't familiar with the score before I went, and I just found all the songs a bit samey and generic sounding. I Miss the Mountains and I'm Alive stood out. I thought the cast were phenomenal though, & I very much would include Jamie Parker in that. But it just wasn't as affecting as I thought it was going to be and there were several times when I thought "these actors are amazing, I am invested in the story of this family" and wished I had been watching a play instead. But it's immensely popular and well done, and I hope it transfers and is a big commercial hit for them.

I was there tonight too, and I absolutely loved it. It's a stunning looking production, dark and gritty. The Savoy auditorium is in semi-darkness as you struggle to find your seat which sets the mood. Nicole S brought the house down and got a standing ovation mid song, and her campy, vampy, humorous performance was catnip to many of the gents in the audience, one of whom I saw actually bowing down to her after 'With One Look'! The drama! But she absolutely nailed the vulnerability of Norma. That voice! Agree with others that Tom Francis has a great stage presence and will be a massive star after this. The coup de theatre at the start of Act 2 is breathtakingly executed and technically perfect. Some things didn't quite work for me, the Cyrano like ensemble didn't match the mood of the piece totally successfully but they are all blazing with talent. All in all, it is exhilarating and wonderfully theatrical, with a fitting incorporation of film. The music sounds immense with this orchestra and as others have said the sound and lighting design is really something else. And I loved the title and end credits sequences. Would be amazed if this wasn't Broadway bound at some point. Also, I agree with drowseychap about the damn mobile phone going off at a key moment. Jeez! At least they managed to turn it off relatively quickly. There was also some sort of minor kerfuffle in the mid stalls towards the start of Act 2 but thankfully things settled quickly.

David Morrissey at Next to Normal this afternoon, and seemed like a thoroughly decent guy.

The only recent transfer from the Donmar that I can remember was the marvellous 'Sweat' to the Gielgud (and, of course, the Constellations revival which was mounted at the Vaudeville in 2021). Very little transfers from there, unlike say, the Almeida, Young Vic and the NT, but if they can't manage a transfer for Next to Normal, then they'll never get one. It's a no brainer to transfer it if they have Caissie Levy on board. And I thought Wessex Grove were working with the Donmar on transfer opportunities. This would be their best bet! A transfer isn't the be all and end all and there are multiple reasons why a show that was successful at the Donmar didn't transfer such as cast availability, theatre availability etc The show not transferring doesn't mean the show is a failure. I think most subsidised theatres enjoy it when a commercial transfer success happens. I was pointing out that the Donmar has had far fewer than others. And I never said that a show which doesn't transfer is a failure.
